COLLECTIBLE CARS Rare Mopars Shine at Mecum s Kissimmee Auction One of the biggest events in the collector car world is really a series of related events the January auctions in Scottsdale, Arizona. They should be wrapping up right around the time that you re reading this, so we ll be covering them next time. Although they don t yet stage an auction in Scottsdale, Mecum s Kissimmee sale is a good barometer of what we can expect to see there, and judging from their results, I expect to see big numbers. Eric Lawrence, Director of Specialty kets 16500 16000 15500 15000 14500 14000 13500 American "Pony Cars" 1965-72 Mecum s ten day long Kissimmee sale was a huge success, with more than 3,000 lots selling for a total of $93,000,000 (including post block transactions). It was Mecum s highest grossing sale in their history, with sales totals thirty percent higher than last year. Kissimmee s sell through percentage (auction lots sold divided by lots offered) was 78%, which is roughly fifteen to twenty percentage points better than the industry average, excluding no- reserve auctions. The average price of each sold unit was twenty percent higher than last year, no doubt helped out by several sales which exceeded a million dollars. RECREATIONAL VEHICLES RV Values Begin to Follow Seasonal Patterns After nine long months of the two major RV segments moving in opposite directions, I m pleased to report that the values of motorized and towable units sold at auction have finally started to move in a more coordinated manner. Prices are beginning to rise as we inch closer to the prime spring selling season and dealers begin to restock their lots in anticipation of the first customers that will be brought in by the warmer weather. I expect wholesale prices to continue to rise for the next several months, as has been historically typical for this time of year. HEAVY DUTY More Over the Road Aero Sleepers Showing Up! Late model Over the Road and Regional Tractors continue to lead the depreciation race Charles Cathey, Editor Heavy Duty Truck Data When supply is greater than demand, values inevitably drop, and that is the case with late model trucks. This value decrease is rather dramatic with Over the Road models sliding 1.3% and Regional models sliding 0.9% more than the previous month. This trend will probably continue but possibly lesson in months to come. Please take a look at the following data for more details and other model groups.
