Introduction FILTER SIZING INDEX CALCULATION CORRECTIVE FACTOR Page Introduction
Calculation FILTER SIZING THE CORRECT FILTER SIZING HAVE TO BE BASED ON THE TOTAL PRESSURE DROP DEPENDING BY THE APPLICATION. FOR EXAMPLE, THE MAXIMUM TOTAL PRESSURE DROP ALLOWED BY A NEW AND CLEAN RETURN FILTER HAVE TO BE IN THE RANGE 0. 0.6 bar. The pressure drop calculation is performed by adding together the value of the housing with the value of the filter. The pressure drop pc of the housing is proportional to the fluid density (kg/dm ); all the graphs in the catalogue are referred to mineral oil with density of 0.86 kg/dm. The filter pressure drop pe is proportional to its viscosity (mm /s), the corrective factor Y have to be used in case of an oil viscosity different than 0 mm /s (cst). Calculation: pc = 0.0 bar (see graphic below) Δp bar MPT 0 Length 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 0 * G / 0 60 0 80 0 00 Flow rate l/min housings p pressure drop. The curves are plotted using mineral oil with density of 0.86 kg/dm in compliance with ISO 968. p varies proportionally with density. Sizing data for single filter, head at top pc = housing pressure drop [bar] pe = pressure drop [bar] Y = Corrective factor Y (see correspondent table), depending on the filter type, on the filter size, on the filter length and on the filter media Q = flow rate (l/min) V reference oil viscosity = 0 mm /s (cst) V = operating oil viscosity in mm /s (cst) pressure drop calculation with an oil viscosity different than 0 mm /s (cst) pe = Y : 000 x Q x (V:V) p Tot. = pc + pe Verification formula p Tot. p max allowed pe = (.00 : 000) x 0 x (6 : 0) = 0.7 bar H Series Nominal filtration M5 Type A0 A06 A0 A6 A5 P0 P5 M60 M90 Return filters 7.00 5 0.00 6.00 9.00 6. 5.5.0 MF 00 9.0.00. 9.00 8.00 6.56 7. 5. 5.00...68.85..00.0 MF 00 MFX 00 MF 00 MFX 00 7.00 5 0.00 6.00 9.00 6. 5.5.0 8.0 7. 0.5 6.0.0.50 9.00 5.0 8.67 6.86.65.0 8.7 5.70..0 6.88.00.50.00.6.05.6.9.96.7. 0.96.5.0 0.96 0.8 Maximum total pressure drop ( p max) allowed by a new and clean filter Application Range (bar) Suction filters Return filters Low & Medium Pressure filters High Pressure filters Stainless Steel filters 0.0 0. 0.6 0. 0.6 return lines 0. 0.5 lubrication lines 0. 0. offline in power systems 0. 0. offline in test benches 0. 0.6 overboost 0.8.5 0.8.5 p Tot. = 0.0 + 0.7 = 0. bar The selection is correct because the total pressure drop value is inside the admissible range for top tank return filters.
