Manufacturers of interlocks, locking devices and electrical contacts for elevator landing and hoist way doors and gates. What do you do? 1. CSA Group Service Delivery staff will contact you to address compliance with each revision as applicable to the product designs covered in your affected Certification Reports. In addition to updates to your Certificate(s) of Compliance & Report(s), testing may be required to comply with these revisions. 2. Effective immediately, new products are required to be certified to this LTR. New products are defined as: Any model or models that are not previously certified to TIL CSA D-11B. Any new model to an existing series currently certified to TIL CSA D-11B that requires an associated change to the ratings or production construction details of the CSA report for that series. 3. For all of models currently certified to TIL CSA D- 11B, please respond within thirty (30) days of receiving CSA Group s Application for CSA Certification Services and Quotation communication. You must respond no later than September 1, 2018 in order to guarantee the update to your certification is completed by January 1, 2019. If testing is needed, we will inform you of the samples required. Approvals: Presently certified interlocks, locking devices and electrical contacts for elevator landing and hoist way doors and gates are required to update to these requirements. ATTACHMENT 1 List of Technical Requirements [LTR] LTR Number D-001-2018 [Elevating Devices] Subject Keywords Interlocks, Locking Devices and Electrical Contacts for Elevator Landing and Hoistway Doors and Gates Background & Rationale This List of Technical Requirements (LTR) replaces TIL CSA D-11B dated September 30, 2004, which has exceeded its prescribed period of validity and has not been incorporated into a standard. This LTR will be used until technical requirements are incorporated into a CSA standard suitable to be used for conformity assessment. 1.0 Scope Technical Issue 1.1 This LTR covers the following devices (hereafter referred to as Devices) for use in elevator systems within the scope of CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) landing and hoistway door interlocks, landing and hoistway door combination mechanical locks and electric contacts, landing and hoistway door locking devices and electric contacts, car-door interlocks, car-door and gate electric contacts, 1.2 This LTR does not cover devices for use only in lifts for physically disabled within the scopes of CSA Standards CAN/CSA-B355. 2.0 Definitions 2.1 The devices covered in this LTR are defined in Section 1.3 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. 3.0 Requirements 3.1 General A device shall comply with the applicable requirements of standard CSA B44.1/ASME A17.5 and the applicable construction and test requirements of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 specified in Clauses 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4. 3.2 Construction 3.2.1 A hoistway interlock (landing-door door interlock) shall comply with Clauses 2.12.2.4.1, 2.12.2.4.2, 2.12.2.4.3, 2.12.2.4.4 (a) and (b), 2.12.2.4.5, 2.12.4.6 and 2.26.4.3.1 of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The interlock shall be subjected to the contact bridge separating force test 3.4.11. Page 2 of 5

3.2.2 A hoistway door combination mechanical lock and electric contacts shall comply with Clauses 2.12.3.4.1, 2.12.3.4.2, 2.12.3.4.3, 2.12.3.4.4 (a), 2.12.3.4.5, and 2.26.4.3.1 of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. 3.2.3 Landing and hoistway door electric contacts shall comply with Clauses 2.12.2.4.1 and 2.12.2.4.5 of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. 3.2.4 A car-door interlock shall comply with Clauses 2.12.2.4.1, 2.12.2.4.2; 2.12.2.4.3, 2.12.4.4 (a) and (b), 2.12.2.4.5, 2.12.4.6, 2.26.4.3.1, and 2.14.4.2.4 (c) and (e) of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The interlock shall also be subjected to the contact bridge separating force test 3.4.11. 3.2.5 Car-door and gate electric contacts shall comply with Clauses 2.14.4.4.2.3 (b), (c) and (e) of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. 3.2.6 Openings in an enclosure shall comply with Clause 7 of standard CSA B44.1/ASME A17.5-14, unless otherwise specified in Clause 3.2.7. 3.2.7 The test probe requirement of Clause 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3 of standard CSA B44.1/ASME A17.5-14 are not applicable to the openings provided in an interlock and door locking device enclosure for the engagement of a locking member. The openings may be more than the limits specified in Clause 7.1 of standard CSA B44.1/ASME A17.5-14 but shall be not more than the required dimension as determined when the locking member is in operation. 3.3 Marking 3.3.1 The following requirements from clause 2.12.4.3 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 shall be permanently marked on the device and shall be readily visible when the device is installed. (a) manufacturer s name or registered trademark (b) catalogue or model designation (c) rated voltage and current, and whether AC or DC (d) rated test force (e) rated test movement. (f) the certification/listing/approval mark of the certification organization (g) the indicator CSA B44 (h) date (month and year) devices subjected to type test (i) indication of the Date of Issue of the Code Applied (see Note below for details) (j) For Private Residence Elevator Only or equivalent, if the device has only been certified for use on a private residence elevator. Note: Devices certified/listed/approved to this LTR shall be marked with CSA B44-16. Devices certified/listed/ approved to TIL CSA D-11B for repair/maintenance/replace purposes shall be marked with B44-00 ; Devices certified/listed/ approved to CSA D-11A for repair/maintenance/replace purposes shall be marked with B44-85. Devices certified/listed/approved to the applicable requirements of CSA Standards B44.1 and B44-94 for retrofit applications shall be marked with B44-94. 3.4 Tests 3.4.1 A Device shall be subjected to the tests of Clauses 8.3.3.1, 8.3.3.2 and 8.3.3.3 of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The test set-ups shall simulate the installation practice of the device. 3.4.2 The test voltage and current, referenced in Clauses 8.3.3.3.1 of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, shall be adjusted to the voltage and current ratings marked on the nameplate of the device, referenced in Clause 3.3.1, and Clause 2.12.4.3 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. 3.4.3 A device shall be subjected to the endurance test of Clause 8.3.3.4.1 of ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The rate of operation shall be 6 cycles per min with 1 s on and 9 s off, unless the design inherently prevents operation at this rate. Page 3 of 5

3.4.4 Following the endurance test of Clause 3.4.3, a static force shall be applied to the locking member of the device in accordance with Clause 8.3.3.4.8 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The locking member shall be engaged at 7 mm in accordance with Clause 2.12.2.4.3 of CSA B44-16 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators. The locking member shall withstand the force for 300 s with no indication of damage to the locking member. 3.4.5 A device shall be subjected to the current interruption test of Clause 8.3.3.4.2 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The rate of operation shall be 6 cycles per min with1 s on and 9 s off, unless the design inherently prevents operation at this rate. 3.4.6 A device shall be subjected to the operation without lubricant test of Clause 8.3.3.4.3 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The rate of operation shall be 6 cycles per min with 1 s on and 9 s off, unless the design inherently prevents operation at this rate, and methylene chloride shall be used for the solvent. 3.4.7 A device shall be subjected to the moist atmosphere test of Clause 8.3.3.4.4 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The rate of operation shall be 6 cycles per min with 1 s on and 9 s off, unless the design inherently prevents operation at this rate. 3.4.8 A device shall be subjected to the misalignment test of clause 8.3.3.4.5 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. 3.4.9 A device shall be subjected to the insulation test of Clause 8.3.3.4.6 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The rated voltage referenced in Clause 8.3.3.4.6 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16 shall be the voltage rating marked on the nameplate of the device. 3.4.10 A device shall be subjected to the force and movement test of Clause 8.3.3.4.7 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The minimum engagement of the locking member at the point of closure of the electrical contacts shall be verified by direct measurement in accordance with Clauses 2.12.2.4.3 and 8.3.3.4.10 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. The engagement shall be not less than 7 mm. 3.4.11 A new test sample of the hoistway or car door or gate interlock shall be subjected to the contact bridge separating force test of Clauses 2.12.2.4.1 and 8.3.3.4.11 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44-16. A force of 200 N (45 lb) shall be applied for 60 s to the bridging contact of the test sample. The force shall be applied in the direction that would likely separate the contact from the locking member. There shall be no breakage, cracking or other indication of separation of the contact bridge from the locking member. ATTACHMENT 2 Major Revisions Clause(s) 3.3.1 (j) For Private Residence Elevator Only or equivalent, if the device has only been certified for use on a private residence elevator. 3.4.1 Notes Changes This marking requirement has been added. The 3.4.1 Notes (a) has been deleted, (a) Misalignment tests specified in Clause 8.3.3.4.5 of CSA Standard B44 are not required for devices within the scope of this TIL. These tests relate to specific use applications which must be verified by testing of the combination of the specific door and with the locking device. 3.4.8 A device shall be subjected to the misalignment test of clause 8.3.3.4.5 of CSA Standard B44-16. 3.4.1 Notes (b) The locking member disengagement tests specified in Clause 2.12.2.4.6 of CSA Standard B44 are not covered by this LTR. These tests relate to specific use applications that must be verified by independent testing of the combination of the specific door and with the locking device. 3.4.8 Misalignment test from Clause 8.3.3.4.5 of safety code ASME A17.1/CSA B44 has been added. 3.4.1 Notes (b) has been deleted.
