Toledo HOG Chapter 1524 Newsletter Winter 2018-2019 Director s Message Greetings fellow HOG members, HOG POST Another riding season has come to an end. I hope that you all had opportunities to get on your bikes and ride and have fun in 2018. The chapter had some very good rides that took place this year. There were far too many rides to mention here but I remember earlier in the year we had members all over the U.S. riding their bikes and enjoying this great country of ours.. I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season. I hope that everyone takes this time to enjoy their families. We should also take this time to reflect upon how blessed we really are. I know for me I am thankful for my family and all of you, my HOG family. We are truly blessed with a great HOG family and dealership. I am looking forward to a great year in 2019. Please do not forget the After Holiday Christmas Party on January 19. Keep a close watch on the website and Facebook for details about all the events coming in 2019 Let's saddle up ride and have fun in 2019. Safety Greetings to the HOG 1524 members! As I am writing this article, I am reflecting on the 2018 riding season and how quickly the season came and went. Happens every year. Seems we go from warm sunny days and the next thing you know, we re preparing motorcycles for winter storage. Not too much on the safety front during this time of the year, as many of us are not on the roads. With that said, we all know that we often take the opportunity to ride the nice days that let us break the cabin fever that sets in during these cold months. Just a few reminders for those that will be venturing out. Drivers are not typically looking for bikers during these colder months, so anticipate (even more so) that you are not being seen by 4-wheeled drivers. Additionally, there is a whole different set of hazards that we need to be aware of (i.e. salt, sand, etc.), as we venture out. Road applied sand, salt, stones, etc., are all a part of traction accommodations for 4-wheeled vehicles. It goes without saying that these means of traction for 4-wheel vehicles do just the opposite for riding motorcycles. So be careful out there! Just a few other comments, as we prepare for winter storage Top off the tank After putting some fresh fuel in the tank, add the recommended amount of fuel stabilizer to keep the gas from deteriorating and leaving a brown layer of muck on your carburetor s parts. Turn that baby on and let it run for a few minutes so the treated fuel can cycle through. Fill up your fluids Double-check your bike s brake, clutch, and coolant fluids, replacing or refilling if necessary. Remember to always use the type and amount of fluid recommended by your motorcycle s manufacturer. Toledo HOG Chapter 1524 Bringing together people of common interest to enjoy the spirit of motorcycling through various activities. A Harley Owners Group (HOG) chapter is where lasting relationships are formed and where laughter is heard. Where plans for dinner rides and fund raisers come to life; where memories are made. It s where people like you come together to share their common interest in Harley- Davidson motorcycles and the unique lifestyle that makes HOG so special. Oust old oil Over time, a running engine s oil transitions from a clean, golden fluid to dirty, black muck. The contaminants in old oil can corrode engine parts and do some serious damage over the course of a few months. Change the oil and filter plug before storing your ride to avoid a sticky situation later on. Conserve your battery s charge Some newer motorcycles experience a slight battery drain (even when the ignition s off) in order to maintain things like your clock and radio presets. You can remove the battery from your bike altogether and trickle charge it all winter. Or, if you prefer to keep things in one package, you can store your bike with a fully-charged battery. If you choose the latter, just give the battery a charge once a month while it s not being used. Be Safe out there and keep warm Safety Officer Steve Labordus www.toledohog1524.com Officer Contact Information 2
Ladies of Harley Hello Sisters & Brothers The holiday season is upon us. Amazing how time flies when your having fun. We have had an amazing year. We have built friendships, great fellowship, many adventures and lots of laughter. I look forward to more awesome times with all of you. I am the LOH director but WE are the chapter. Looking forward into 2019, I would like to see our sisters put together LOH gatherings. You can do it yourself or team up to do this. This will give many the opportunity to put their spin/ personal touch on our gatherings. As well as give us new experiences. If you really enjoyed a gathering we did in the past then set it up again. Sue (Kat) Burton is currently working on our January 2019 gathering. All I will leak out is it will be on a Sunday. If I can be of assistance in anyway please feel free to contact me @ 419-509-9624.
