XLP RANGE EXTRA LOW PULSE POSITIVE DISPLACEMENT AIR BLOWERS SIZE N Design Features XLP Whispair blowers reduce noise and power loss by utilising an exclusive wrap-around plenum and proprietary Whispair jet to minimise pressure pulsations. The conservative load carrying capacity of the large diameter rolling element bearings ensures an extended operating life. The computer calculated impeller profiles ensure maximum volumetric efficiency with minimum absorbed power without sacrificing torsional rigidity. The high rigidity of the impeller/shafts permits a higher pressure rise to be obtained than with other machines of comparable size. The generous shaft diameter keeps drive stresses low. Precision ground and hardened steel gears are designed to ensure smooth, silent running and accurate timing of the impellers. Gear and shaft strength is substantially increased by the use of taper mounted gears which do not need keyways for location. Setting of the gear wheels to obtain correct timing of the impellers is simplified, a feature that facilitates field maintenance. Specially designed labyrinth seals and oil throwers are used at both ends. This feature eliminates maintenance associated with the use of lip seals. XLP Whispair blowers are constructed with air gaps which isolate bearing and gear lubricants from the compression chamber. Use as a Vacuum Pump When used as a Vacuum Pump, dust or liquids cannot be drawn into the impellers due to the fact that solid impellers are supplied for the Size N. User benefits The combination of the 3-lobe impeller profile and the Whispair chamber combine to reduce discharge pulsations to extremely low levels. This benefit increases in direct proportion to the blower speed. The delivered air is guaranteed to be oil free because internal lubrication is unnecessary, and because the XLP range of Positive Displacement Air Blowers are constructed with air gaps which completely isolate bearing and gear lubricants from the compression chamber. Noise levels are kept to a minimum. Air noise is reduced by carefully designed air ports utilizing the special Whispair feature and by the elimination of resonant unbraced surfaces. Mechanical noise levels have been reduced by the running accuracy of the taper mounted gears. The blower can be installed for either vertical or horizontal air flow simply by repositioning the mounted feet. Installation costs can be reduced by the versatility of mounting arrangements. The generous diameter of the drive shaft permits the use of V-belt drives without the need for a double outer bearing. All machines are performance tested under the most arduous design conditions before dispatch. Specification Casing: The cylinder and headplates are manufactured from high grade cast iron. Impellers and Shafts: Impellers are ductile iron with integral shafts or steel stub shafts and are dynamically balanced to close tolerances. The shaft diameter of machines in the XLP range is larger than that of similar designs, enabling increased operating pressures to be achieved without increasing blower size. Bearings: The bearings are of generous proportions to give long operational life. Oil lubricated cylindrical roller bearings are used at the drive and gear end of the blower. In addition to their normal duty of carrying radial loads associated with the differential air pressure on the rotating impellers, these bearings provide axial location of the impellers. Lubrication: Both drive end and gear end of these units are splash oil lubricated. Simple maintenance free oil throwers fitted behind each bearing in the gearcase prevent leakage of oil. Direction of Rotation: Detachable mounting feet enable the blower to be positioned for either vertical or horizontal air flow. Standard machines have a left hand drive shaft, top inlet, for vertical air flow, and a bottom drive shaft, left hand inlet, for horizontal air flow. Package Units: The XLP range is sold as part of our standard Prime package unit range. All package units are CE Marked and can achieve sound pressure levels below 80 dba (measured at 1 metre) without the use of inlet or discharge silencers on the Prime N, A and B sizes.

This will minimize the risk of loss of dynamic balance due to material inside the rotors. The high rigidity of the impeller/shafts permits a higher pressure rise to be obtained than with other machines of comparable size. The generous shaft diameter keeps drive stresses low. Precision ground and hardened steel gears are designed for smooth, silent running and accurate timing of the impellers. Gear and shaft strength is substantially increased by the use of taper mounted gears which do not need keyways for location. Setting of the gear wheels to obtain correct timing of the impellers is simplified, a feature that facilitates field maintenance. Specially designed labyrinth seals and oil throwers are used at both ends. This feature eliminates maintenance associated with the use of lip seals. XLP Whispair blowers are constructed with air gaps which isolate bearing and gear lubricants from the compression chamber. Use as a Vacuum Pump If used as a Vacuum Pump, and dust or liquids could be drawn into the machine due to inadequate filtration, closed end impellers should be specified. This will minimize the risk of loss of dynamic balance due to material inside the rotors. User benefits The combination of the 3-lobe impeller profile and the Whispair chamber reduce discharge pulsations to extremely low levels. This benefit increases in direct proportion to the blower speed. The delivered air is guaranteed to be oil free because internal lubrication is unnecessary, and because the XLP range of Positive Displacement Air Blowers are constructed with air gaps which completely isolate bearing and gear lubricants from the compression chamber. Noise levels are kept to a minimum. Air noise is reduced by carefully designed air ports utilizing the special Whispair feature and by the elimination of resonant unbraced surfaces. Mechanical noise levels have been reduced by the running accuracy of the taper mounted gears. The blower can be installed for either vertical or horizontal air flow simply by repositioning the mounted feet. Installation costs can be reduced by the versatility of mounting arrangements. In most cases, the generous diameter of the drive shaft permits the use of V-belt drives without the need for a double outer bearing. All machines are performance tested under the most arduous design conditions before despatch. Specification Casing: The cylinder and headplates are manufactured from high grade cast iron. lmpellers and Shafts: Impellers are ductile iron with integral shafts on steel sub shafts and are dynamically balanced to close tolerances. The shaft diameter of machines in the XLP range is larger than that of similar designs, enabling increased operating pressures to be achieved without increasing blower size. Bearings: The bearings are of generous proportions to give long operational life. Oil lubricated cylindrical roller bearings are used at the drive and gear end of the blower. In addition to their normal duty of carrying radial loads associated with the differential air pressure on the rotating impellers, these bearings provide axial location of the impellers. Lubrication: Both drive end and gear end of these units are splash oil lubricated. Simple maintenance free oil throwers fitted behind each bearing in the gearcase prevent leakage of oil. Direction of Rotation: Detachable mounting feet enable the blower to be positioned for either vertical or horizontal air flow. Standard machines have a left hand drive shaft, top inlet, for vertical air flow, and a bottom drive shaft, left hand inlet, for horizontal air flow. Package Units: The XLP range is sold as part of our standard Prime package unit range. All package units are CE Marked and can achieve a sound pressure level below 80 dba (measured at 1 metre) without the use of inlet or discharge silencers on the Prime N, A and B sizes. The XLP size 3 is supplied in the Prime C which does incorporate silencers. XLP size 4 is supplied as a custom built package.
