HISTORY
The Era Or what was it actually like in those days? Mercedes-Benz resumed production after the Second World War in 1946 using established models which had already been produced before the war. The 170 V series became the core of new vehicle production. The company s strategy was as follows: to continuously improve existing models and at the same time develop new model ranges such as the Ponton series. And so the 170 S was born in 1949, based on the 170 S but longer, wider and better equipped. It had with 52 PS a significantly more powerful engine (40% more powerful than the 170 V) and was available as a saloon or convertible. Its front axle had helical springs with telescopic shock absorbers and double-wishbones. Daimler tradition was also continued in the interior with an elegant combination of fine wood, real leather and high-quality instruments. It is the first Mercedes model with the additional S designation which was used in those days for the company s luxury vehicle models. The top models of the S range were the convertibles which closely resembled the style of the pre-war type 230 (W 153). The elegant two-seater Type A with a basic price of 15,800DM was the top-of-the-range model and the epitome of luxury. Only 830 were ever built in a period spanning 3 years. The Condition Or how it really is. Original, given a facelift or fully restored? The vehicle is currently in specialist premises of the highest quality, is complete and expertly restored and fulfils all the criteria for greatness thanks to its peripheral equipment. The Use Or what can it still do? The car can still do what it did in 1949 to distinguish itself and to give its owners driving pleasure. The feeling of owning such a top-quality product is almost impossible to describe you feel it by getting into the vehicle. It gives its driver and passengers a feeling of safety and security and a special experience is driving with the roof down which turns a completely normal day into a day of pure enjoyment. The car cuts a good figure with the roof up and provides its two occupants a pleasant feeling of spaciousness. Quality fittings and excellent condition are a secure guarantee for future value increase.
