Maintaining spray nozzles at the recommended spray tip height allows chemical to be applied using an optimum spray pattern allowing even application and reducing drift. Manual operation of a sprayer in uneven field terrain may require reduced operating speeds for continual boom adjustments. Using ultrasonic sensor data, NORAC s Spray Height Control systems makes responsive height adjustments allowing booms to automatically follow the contours of the land.

Smart Sensors Ultrasonic sensor hardware and software is designed by NORAC specifically for sprayer boom height control applications. The ultrasonic signals can distinguish the difference between the ground and standing crop or field residue. Boom height is controlled by choosing Soil Mode (senses the soil surface), Crop Mode (senses the top of the crop), or Hybrid Mode (newly Patented Technology that calculates a virtual top of crop for more accurate control). Accurate, Smooth Control All UC4.5 and UC5 Spray Height Control systems use NORAC supplied proportional valves to ensure that boom height corrections are smooth, even, and automatic. Roll Compensation NORAC Spray Height Control systems allow for effective boom height control without altering the boom from its original engineered design. Two types of Roll Control technology are available. AutoHeight monitors and compensates for boom center section roll. AutoTerrian takes Roll Control one step further by actively controlling the roll in the center section (Active Roll ). Proportional Valves A separate NORAC designed proportional valve is used for each wing to ensure smooth independent hydraulic control Automatic oil temperature monitoring and compensation for superior performance Load sensing and closed center models are available Optional Severe Terrain Package This option adds a second sensor to each wing that is mounted halfway down the length of each boom. The Severe Terrain package provides average height for each boom, as well as a minimum height override. This option is recommended in the following situations: Boom lengths longer than 90 ft. (27 m) Land with sharp knolls such as terraces This package includes two ultrasonic sensors with brackets and all required cables and hardware. Active Roll Control Kit (only available with AutoTerrain) Roll Control Technology Roll Sensors are used to measure the roll in the center section. This enables the system to predict the effects of boom and chassis roll on boom height and compensate for it. The technology manages boom stability by preventing one boom s action from affecting the other and allows the boom roll suspension to perform as designed without interference. The addition of Active Roll Control on UC5 systems enable the sprayer to go over severe terrain by actively rolling the center section, as well as controlling wing lift. Spray height is maintained, even in the most severe conditions. Rotating and controlling the center section also increases the wing lift speed. This package includes valve assembly, roll cylinder, and all required cables, hoses, and hardware. precision Spray Height Control

Patented Hybrid Mode provides the operator with a level of performance not provided from current height controllers on the market. It is a combination of the function provided by the two operating modes Soil Mode and Crop Mode. Hybrid Mode is most useful when there are difficult crop conditions such as washed out areas, thin or lodged crop, or wheel tracks. Normally in these conditions typical controllers will allow the boom to drop when the crop canopy is interrupted, which can result in sections of the boom coming into contact with the crop, damaging the crop and possibly the boom. NORAC solves this problem by tracking both the crop canopy and the soil surface simultaneously. If the crop canopy is not continuous, Hybrid Mode will track the soil surface and determine a continuous virtual crop canopy as an operator would expect in these crop conditions. The result is stable and reliable height control in all crop conditions.

UC5 is NORAC s most advanced spray height control system. This controller is ISOBUS certified and can be integrated with the HC9500 as well as a variety of virtual terminals and displays. Alternatively it can be used as a stand-alone controller that is operated through NORAC s PULSE color touchscreen display. The UC5 system is not only easy to operate, but offers advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities. Standard kits provide automatic control of the sprayer boom wings and main lift. AutoTerrain also adds active control of the center section (Active Roll ). Most AutoHeight kits contain the following components: Left and right wing ultrasonic sensors with mounting brackets Center ultrasonic sensor with bracket Roll sensor(s) to measure center section roll Required interconnecting cables, hydraulic plumbing, and hardware Proportional valve package (load sensing, closed center, or open center models available) Operator s manual Spray Height Control systems are supplied in packages with custom designed cables and hydraulic kits for specific sprayer models. Although NORAC attempts to supply complete installation kits, some modifications may be required due to sprayer manufacturing variations outside of NORAC s control.
