The Prez Sez... March/April 2013 Well time is moving forward and spring is getting closer. We had our annual swap meet in February. We did have a good vendor turnout and a few commented they would be back next year. The door was a little lite as a result of weather. We did well with our food sales. Overall it was another successful year. Several members, as usual, turned out to help. Thanks all!!! We have a great club. I unfortunately missed out on our winter field trip. The club was invited to tour a personal collection in the Cincinnati area. The members that went said it was great and the hosts were super nice. We discussed it at the March meeting Doug may bring some pictures in April. The Performance Workshop is also behind us. There were six Cincinnati club members on hand and Anthony gave an update to the group on his Subaru engine power LM. Can t wait until next year, it is always a great event. We started discussing the Mid-Ohio meet (June 23 rd ) at the last meeting. We are the host again this year and it will be here before you know it. We have the shelter reserved. There will be more to come at the next meeting. One thing we will need is plenty of door prizes. If you know anyone or business that would donate please let us know. It is almost becoming a broken record but Corvairs are in print again. Check out the May edition of Hemmings Classic Car, the Goodyear test car (aka Yenko Stinger) is on the cover. Corvairs are truly becoming cool cars in the car hobby. We always knew that, now the rest of the world is catching up. See you at the next meeting... Vairs Rule!
Just-A-Minute February minutes brief meeting after the Swap Meet. Meeting brought to order by Don & Wes. Mike Demeter gave all a big thanks for helping again this year with the swap meet. Looks like we made a profit again this year. No treasury report this month, Mike did mention finances in good shape. No major changes. We have a club trip planned for March 2nd to tour a private car collection. If interested contact Ralph or one of the other officers. We also discussed the National CORSA meeting for a few minutes. A raise of hands was asked for folks planning to go. Several members plan to go this time since it is close this year.joe brought up the idea of contacting old members to see if they are interested in rejoining. Plan to send them a current newsletter to see what they are missing. Mike has the old members documented on his excel membership list. We can use this as a start. The meeting was ended by Cindy and seconded by Anthony. Notes by Joe MINUTES OF MARCH MEETING Meeting called to order by Joe @ 8:05 p.m. There were 15 members in attendance. Mike reported a balance of $4739.99 in the club treasury. The swap meet generated a profit of $892, somewhat less than we made in the last few years. Increased fees at the Armory and reduced attendance due to bad weather the day of the show are to blame for the decrease. OLD BUSINESS The private tour on March 2 was a great success. John and his sons graciously allowed us to tour his beautiful facility and see his gorgeous cars. John also invited us to come back again and he said we could possibly have a monthly club meeting there sometime. Many thanks, John! NEW BUSINESS Former club member John Bennetto is still hospitalized from the effects of the stroke he suffered. The members in attendance signed a get-well card to be sent to him. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, John! The Corvair Performance Workshop in Indianapolis will be held on March 15-16. Several of our members plan to attend. The Mid-Ohio Meet will be held on June 23 at Caesar's Creek. We need door prizes for the event. The CORSA convention will be held in Kalamazoo, MI on July 15-20. The Hamilton parade will take place on July 27. The Leprechaun Run to benefit the Clermont Co. League for Animal Welfare will be held on Saturday, April 6. Club newsletter editor Greg Bodenburg is in charge of the event. Let's try to have a showing of Corvairs to support Greg and this worthy cause. Register at www.cincysportscars.com or contact Greg directly. Next month we'll have pizza at the club meeting. Meeting adjourned @ 8:50 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Ralph Gubser, Secretary

I have belonged to CORSA for many years, hence this is where I received your Chapter information. March private collection tour On March 2 several of our club members had the privilege of visiting a private car collection. I had met the owner, John, at the Halloween cruisein at Mt. Healthy Frisch's last year and it was then that he graciously invited our club to tour his facility. The weather that morning was decidedly unfriendly. An unexpected series of snow showers had begun overnight and by mid-morning the roads were becoming snow-covered and slick. Nevertheless, about a dozen of our members and a few other guests braved the roads to attend the tour. John stores his cars in a converted office building whose interior has been beautifully remodeled. Lots of posters, die-cast cars and auto-themed displays of all types are found within. It's the type of facility all car nuts dream of owning, only John doesn't have to dream about it! John and his sons were only too happy to let us wander about the facility at will. They also entertained and amused us with background histories and anecdotes about his various cars. Most of the collection consists of 1950's-era American iron, but several Jaguars of varying eras also were on display. Most of the cars, such as his Cadillac Eldorados, the Mark II Continental, the 1962 Imperial convertible and the Mercury Sun Valley were produced in very small numbers. Needless to say, after some 50 years they are far rarer now. All were in beautiful condition. A few cars, such as the Thunderbird Sports Roadster and the Jaguar XK 120 that John had acquired literally the day before, will soon be restored to the same high standard. John also has a Corvair, a '63 Spyder ragtop, in his stable. Quite an eclectic group of cars to be sure. It was certainly a treat to see these great cars and enjoy a bit of indoor sunshine on an otherwise gray and snowy day. Many thanks to John and his sons for their generous hospitality. Everyone who attended will surely remember their visit to his collection for a long time to come. Submitted by Ralph Gubser
