Introduction Novameta exhaust hoods are designed to fulfill the highly demanding needs of commercial catering industry. A wide range of exhaust hoods is available to serve different applications and provide efficient, high performance exhaust ventilation solutions for light, medium and heavy duty applications. Novameta exhaust hoods, as well as filters have been tested at Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and laboratories of FORCE TECHNOLOGY (Denmark) using the cutting edge CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis and a number of experimental investigations in order to determine the characteristics and behaviour of Novameta exhaust hoods. Novameta hoods are provided with full technical characteristics, which allow to select the most appropriate exhaust fan for the kitchen ventilation system, as well as to conveniently set up the exhaust hoods according to the required exhaust flow rates. This manual explains how to install, operate and maintain the Novameta exhaust hood. In case you encounter any additional questions in connection with installation, operation and maintenance, please feel free to contact your local distributor or Novameta directly. Recommendations Upon receiving a purchased product from Novameta, inspect immediately for any visible signs of shipping damage and notify the carrier IMMEDIATELY if any damage is found. It must be reported in writing in the CMR. When removing the unit from its packing case, be careful not to dent or scratch outer surface. A claim should be filed with carrier if appropriate. All items are thoroughly inspected and carefully packed before leaving our factory, thus Novameta cannot accept responsibility for any shipping damage, however Novameta will assist in filing a claim. 2

1. General information 1.1. Product description Novameta exhaust hood range includes exhaust hoods with filters for extracting air with grease particles and hoods for extracting heat and steam only. Exhaust hoods with filters come in two types wall canopy hoods are used when cooking appliances are arranged along a wall and island hoods are used over cooking equipment which is installed in the middle of the kitchen, where no wall exists. Exhaust hoods are also available with air jet and air supply features. 1.2. Receiving equipment Check the item for shipping damage before and after unloading the unit, and after removing all the packaging. The receiver of this product is responsible for filing freight damage claims. This equipment must be opened immediately for inspection. All visible damage must be reported to the freight company and must be noted on transport documents at the time of delivery. 1.3. Warranty terms Novameta provides a Manufacturer s warranty for all of the equipment against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 1 year from the date of shipment. Manufacturer undertakes to replace all inferior parts to proper quality parts or materials. In case of a fault, a properly filled claim is required and must contain all essential information relative to the fault. Faulty parts shall be returned to Manufacturer for further inspection. The producer does not take any responsibility for damages that occur due to ignorance of cautions, improper maintenance or mechanical damages of the unit, including those, caused during the delivery. This warranty is not effective if damage occurs from improper installation, misuse; if the equipment is not operated within its published air flow rate capacity, incorrect voltage supply, wear and tear from normal usage, accidental breakage, damage or if the equipment is operated contrary to the user instructions. Any expenses in connection with the installation or costs of making adjustments (including service procedures, travel time costs) on the equipment to comply with the supply at the point of installation are not covered by this warranty. The warranty does not cover if the damage occurs due to natural disasters; fire, if repair service was made by unauthorized person. 2. Installation 2.1. General requirements The exhaust hood must be installed by qualified and trained installers in accordance with this manual. Installation must conform to all local electrical regulations. For estimated exhaust hood weights, please refer to Novameta catalogue. If there are any questions about any items, please contact your supplier or Novameta directly: 5

IMPORTANT! In places where warning triangles and/or screws are used to secure covers around electrical parts, there is a risk of severe injury if covers are removed. Therefore, covers must only be removed by a service technician. 2.2. Installation of the hood All models of Novameta exhaust hoods are installed following the procedure described below. 1. Mount the hanging brackets. The exhaust hoods are supplied with hanging brackets (1) and fasteners (2) (4 8 pcs, depending on the model and size of the hood). All of the hanging brackets must be utilized for mounting the hood. Refer to Fig. 1. 2. Install threaded rods in the ceiling. Threaded rods are not supplied. Rods of at least M8 shall be used to mount the hood. The positions of threaded rods shall be aligned with the positions of the hanging brackets. 3. Position the hood on the floor, approximately under the final hood position. Uncrate the hood carefully, exercising caution, to protect the stainless steel or painted surface. Lift the hood up steadily from its corners. 4. Connect the threaded rods with the hanging brackets and secure the connection using nuts (not supplied). 5. Make sure the bottom plane of the hood is even. The recommended hood installation height from the floor is 2000 2100 mm. 6. In case the hood comes in multiple sections, the additional sections of hood shall be mounted using the steps provided above. After the sections are installed, the hoods shall be connected using the supplied connection elements (U channels). 7. After the hanging is complete, remove the protective plastic cover. Fig.1. Installation of cover panels Cover panels are designed to be installed after the installation of the hood is complete. Panels come in several parts and are supposed to be mounted on the top of the hood. Each panel comes with double sided adhesive tape preinstalled at the bottom edge, as well as a set of screws for connecting the panels together. The installation procedure is described below. 1. Using a damp cloth, clean the top of the exhaust hood, all along its perimeter. 2. Remove the protective layer of the pre installed adhesive tape from the side cover panels and install them on top of the hood, along both sides of it. The panel shall adhere to the hood. 3. Remove the protective layer of the adhesive tape from the front and rear cover panels and install them on the top of the hood. The panels shall adhere to the hood and align with the side panels. 4. Using the provided screws, the panels shall be screwed together as shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 2. Installation of cover panels 7

2.4. Luminaires Novameta exhaust hoods may come equipped with luminaires. Recessed fluorescent, recessed LED or plastic fluorescent types are available. All luminaires come with lamps pre installed. Luminaire type and quantity depends on the model and length of the hood (refer to Novameta catalogue). Specifications of luminaires provided below. Fluorescent luminaires are equipped with tubular T5 fluorescent lamps, with G5 bases. LED luminaires are equipped with tubular T8 LED lamps, with G13 bases. Luminaires come fully pre wired with a light switch at the front panel of the hood, or with an electric junction box installed on the top of the hood. In the latter case, luminaires can be connected to a remote switch. Fig. 3. Junction box 8

The unit is intended for connection to alternating current. WARNING! This appliance must be earthed. Connecting the unit to the improper power source can cause damage to the unit and invalidate the warranty. All electrical connections must be completed by authorized qualified personnel only. Before connecting the equipment to the electrical power, make sure that the local power regulations are meeting to the requirements indicated. If it is impossible to access a junction box after the installation, there must be an alternative manual safety switch or an automated safety switch, activated by discharge current, installed. The rated voltage must not be more than 230V (single phase). All earthing requirements stipulated by the local electricity authorities must be observed. Luminaires are easily accessible from within the exhaust hood for luminaire servicing and lamp replacement. Plastic luminaires can be accessed by opening the side latches. Integrated luminaires can be accessed by unscrewing the bolts of the luminaire cover. The luminaires must be completely assembled before restarting operation of the hood. Always disconnect the product before servicing or replacing any electrical component. If operating fails, first look to see whether the product has been unintentionally switched off, or whether a fuse has blown. If the failure cannot be found, contact your supplier. 2.5. Integrated exhaust fans Exhaust hoods may optionally be equipped with integrated exhaust fans. In this case, exhaust hoods come fully pre wired and include a fan speed controller installed at the front of the exhaust hood (unless specified otherwise). The specifications of the exhaust fan is provided below. 9

ATTENTION! Integrated exhaust fans are not intended for use in heavy duty and in kitchens where fryers are used! ATTENTION! It is prohibited to use the exhaust hood with integrated exhaust fans without the filters! Usage of the hood without filters voids the warranty. Always disconnect the product before servicing or replacing any electrical component. If operating fails, first look to see whether the product has been unintentionally switched off, or whether a fuse has blown. If the failure cannot be found, contact your supplier. Before putting the integrated exhaust fan into operation, make sure it complies with all local regulations! 2.6. Integrated air jet fans Exhaust hoods may optionally be equipped with integrated air jet fans. In this case, exhaust hoods come fully pre wired and include a fan speed controller installed at the front of the exhaust hood (unless specified otherwise). The specifications of the exhaust fan is provided below. 10

3. Commissioning 3.1. Air flow adjustment dampers Exhaust, air jet and air supply flow rates can be adjusted and balanced using optional adjustment dampers (Fig. 5). Fig. 5 Airflow adjustment dampers 3.2. Adjusting air flow rates using pressure ports Exhaust and air jet flow rates can be fine adjusted by using the pressure ports. This allows to determine and set the exhaust and supply flow rates to the calculated design airflows by using a manometer and referring to the pressure drop characteristics. Pressure ports are installed in each hood and are 4 mm in diameter. The adjusting procedure: 1. Measure the pressure drop at a pressure port using a differential manometer. 2. Adjust the exhaust fan speed and/or adjustment dampers if necessary. 3. Repeat the above procedure if necessary, until the design airflow is set. 4. Operation 4.1. General requirements 1. The unit must be installed and operated with the designed airflow. 2. Before putting an exhaust hood in operation, make sure the make up air system is installed and is capable to supply the required 85% of the exhausted air. 3. While exhaust hood is operating, the grease filters must always be installed in the hood in order to avoid grease deposit in the exhaust system. 4.2. Installation and removal of filters and condensate plates Exhaust hoods used over heating equipment are equipped with cyclonic grease filters (HNPD, HNPA, HPPD, HFPD, HNCD, HNCA, HPCD, HFCD type) and the exhaust hoods used with dishwashing equipment include condensate plates (HKCD type): Fig. 7. Cyclonic grease filter Fig. 8. Condensate plate The filters and condensate plates are removed by pushing them inside the hood plenum and lifting them up at the same time (see Fig. 9). Installation is carried out in the opposite manner. Fig. 9. Installation and removal of filters Grease filters and condensate plates are machine washable. Handle the filters with care! 18

4.3. Operation and adjustment of integrated exhaust and air jet fans The fan is off when the controller switch (Fig. 10) is set below MIN. To turn on the fan, turn the switch clockwise, the click indicates that the fan is ON. The fan speed can be increased by turning the switch clockwise up to MAX. Fig.10.The controller of the hood ATTENTION! It is prohibited to use the exhaust hood with integrated exhaust fans without the filters! Usage of the hood without filters voids the warranty. 19

5. Maintenance and cleaning 5.1. Maintenance and cleaning of exhaust hoods In order to ensure that hygiene and fire safety requirements are met, it is required to regularly clean the exhaust hood. Cleaning intervals depend on the intensity of kitchen use. For heavy duty kitchens, it is recommended to remove and wash the filters every day. For light duty kitchens filters must be washed at least once per week. Grease collection trough, as well as grease trays must be cleaned at the same frequency. It is also recommended to keep the the exhaust plenum clean. Grease filters, removable grease trays and condensate plates are machine washable. Exterior and interior of exhaust hood shall be cleaned using a soft cloth and mild soap solution. If it is not sufficient, a non abrasive liquid stainless steel polish may be used. Always rub along the grain of stainless steel polish. Strong alkali (ph > 11) cleaning agents should be avoided. Cleansing agents containing chloride or compounds of chlorine as well as other corrosive means, may not be used, as they might cause corrosion to the panels of exhaust hood. To avoid damaging the finish, do not use abrasive materials, scratching cleaners or scouring pads. While exhaust hood is operating, the grease filters must always be inside the hood to gather the grease in the collector in order to avoid grease deposit in the exhaust system. 5.2. Additional requirements for maintenance and cleaning of hoods with integrated exhaust fans It is crucial to keep the integrated exhaust fan clean it significantly effects the reliability and longevity of the unit. The exhaust fan must be cleaned using a wet cloth and a mild detergent at least once per week. For It is strictly forbidden to clean, wash or repair the exhaust fan while it is connected to the mains doing so voids the warranty. Disconnect the integrated fan of the exhaust hood during cleaning process. Do not clean exhaust hood with water steam cleaner, water jets or pouring water on it. This may cause a short circuit and voids the warranty. ATTENTION! It is prohibited to use the exhaust hood with integrated exhaust fans without the filters! Usage of the hood without filters voids the warranty. BEFORE CLEANING ALWAYS BE SURE THE UNIT IS TURNED OFF. 20
