SOFT HANDS INSTRUCTION MANUAL Congratulations on the purchase of a HUSTLER SOFT HANDS Bale Grab! Your robust HUSTLER SOFT HANDS is a quality farm investment that with correct maintenance, will give you years of trouble free service. The MEGA, famous for its massive pivots and slim design hands can clamp and lift up to 2.1 tonnes The Standard Series Soft Hands is the younger brother, and is capable of clamping and lifting up to 900kg MAINTENANCE Clean machine regularly Grease 4 pivot points regularly Check for cracks or defective parts regularly Check bolts, nuts and clips are firmly tightened - Any machine found unsafe or to contribute to an unsafe condition must be removed from service until restored to a safe operating condition, and is deemed by HUSTLER to be safe. WARNINGS Do not allow anybody to stand between the arms, especially with the tractor running Ensure all persons are well clear of the unit operating Always travel with unit as close to the ground as practical to maximise stability Ensure the Bale Grab is properly fastened to the front end loader before operating Extreme care is required when the loader is at full height - Do not crowd back with a bale 2

USING THE SOFT HANDS FITTING THE SOFT HANDS TO A QUICK-HITCH ON A FRONT END LOADER 1) Drive up to the Grab (from behind it). 2) Crowd the quick-hitch forward and lift under the top hooks. 3) Crowd back, lift up and the Grab will latch itself into place. Shut the tractor off and apply the handbrake, and engage first gear. 4) Move the hydraulic controls to relieve any pressure in the hoses, then get out and connect the hydraulic coupling so pulling the lever towards you or to your left, clamps the bale. FITTING THE SOFT HANDS TO A CONVENTIONAL HITCH ON A FRONT END LOADER 1) Drive up to Grab (from behind it). 2) Crowd the hitch mechanism level. 3) Shut the tractor off, apply the handbrake, engage first gear, and move hydraulic controls to relieve any pressure out of the hoses. 4) Get out, fit the hitch pins and latch securely in place. Connect the hydraulic couplings so pulling the lever towards you or to your left, clamps the bale. 4
OPERATING THE SOFT HANDS As the Hustler SOFT HANDS TM are specifically designed to clamp bales, they are simple to operate: 1) Open the HANDS right open (or just wide enough if you are selecting a bale out of a tight pack). 2) Drive in to the bale and stop just before the bale engages the back frame. 3) Clamp the bale. 4) Lift and drive away. STACKING Turning the bale over is simple too. Grip the bale in the centre and crowd right forwards, lower to the ground, then release. This will turn your bale over safely. 90 5
ADJUSTING THE HANDS The adjustment gives the hands versatility so different shaped bales can be gripped to the best advantage. The Mega Hands are adjusted simply - by removing the pin and swinging the hand to the desired angle. (One reason for moving them in would be to grip smaller square bales, so the hands don t just pick up on the finger tips.) The Standard Series Hands are adjusted by removing one bolt, loosening the other and swinging the hand to the desired angle. 1 2 3 Unique adjustable hands allow bales to be carried in any of the 3 positions 6

WARRANTY SOFT HANDS The goods specified in the Instruction Manual as designed and supplied by the manufacturer are warranted against faulty workmanship and defective materials for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Such warranty is subject to the following conditions: 1. This warranty covers the repair or replacement of parts or machinery sold by the manufacturer and damaged as a result of the faulty workmanship or materials in such parts or machinery. It does not extend to any other loss or damage including consequential loss or damage or loss to other property or persons. 2. Without limiting the generality of paragraph 1 above, this warranty does not cover the following: (a) Travel expenses. (b) Damage caused by accident, misuse or abuse. (c) Damage to any goods which have been altered or modified by someone other than the manufacturer or its authorised agent. (d) Damage or loss to the goods due to their unsuitability for any particular use or for using with any particular tractor except where such use or tractor had been specifically approved by the manufacturer. (e) Damage or loss where the fitting and installation of the goods were not carried out by the manufacturer or its authorised dealer. 3. Procedure for recovery under warranty. No loss or damage will be covered by this warranty unless the following procedure is followed by the purchaser; (a) The loss or damage should be reported immediately to the dealer (who will contact the manufacturer who will advise whether it is covered by the warranty and undertake the necessary action). This warranty shall be interpreted according to the laws of New Zealand and the parties agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the Courts of New Zealand. 10
