Place wheel to desired position and lock in place by repositioning handle (D). Fig. 5-4 FLUFFING (or TURNING) Place the implement wheels to the rear and operate at a slow speed. The optional speed reduction gear box will be required. Windrows may be turned (Fluffed) without destroying the windrows. TEDDING Place the implement wheels forward and operate at the normal speed. NOTE: For the best Tedding result, the wheels should be in the forward position, see Figure 5-4. Tedding may also be done with the wheels in the rearward position. DIRECTIONAL SPREADING. Lock the implement wheels either to the right or left, see last two illustrations on page 2, depending on the direction desired and operate at a normal speed. Fig. 5-5, ~I - I -.../ - Tractor PTO Shaft* 2 - Tractor Drawbar* 3 - Drawbar Pin Hole On or Near Center-line 4-4" (355 mm) for 540 RPM* 6" (405 mm) for 000 RPM, -3/8" Shaft * 20" (508 mm) for 000 RPM, -3/4" Shaft* 5-6 to 2" (50 to 300 mm) - 8" (203 mm) Standard* * Tractor MUST comply with ASAE Standard S203 TRACTOR HITCH ALIGNMENT (Figure 5-5) NOTE: By design, this GEHL machine can only be properly hooked-up to a tractor which has PTO and hitch dimensions conforming to ASAE standard S203. Position the tractor drawbar hitch hole centerline directly in line with the tractor PTO shaft. The front and rear position of the tractor drawbar hitch hole centerline MUST be correct to insure the correct Universal Joint relationship. The tractor drawbar hitch hole should be 4" (355 mm) from the rear of the 540 RPM tractor PTO shaft. & /

NOTE: Be sure the PTO shaft is locked on tractor PTO, the PTO shield is anchored to the Tedder Frame and the PTO shaft turns freely inside of shield. See Figure Page 2. OPERATING SPEED The speed of the tines may be reduced by using an optional speed reduction box. This will allow you to reduce the speed of the tines from 70 RPM @ 540 PTO RPM to 68 RPM. The spreading effect of the crops can be regulated by varying the PTO speed of the tractor. Speeds vary based on crop conditions: Moisture content, density of crop and length of crop. The following chart gives approximate speeds for a crop of average length and density. First Time Over... 7-8 km/h (4-/2-5 mph) (High moisture content) Second Time Over.0-2 km/h (6-/2-7-/2 mph) Dry Crop...,. "... Reduce PTO speed Long, Heavy and Wet Crop..., Reduce forward speed, increase PTO speed If the Universal Drive Shaft has to be angled excessively, stop the tractor PTO shaft. OPERATING PATTERNS Refer to illustrations at right for operating patterns. TINE POSITION ADJUSTMENT The tines may be placed in two positions. The forward (aggressive) or retarded (less aggressive) position is determined by the assembly position of clip (U), Figure 7-2, Page 7. When Tedding, place tines in the forward position. When Raking, Fluffing or Turning place tines in the retard position. See Figure 7-3, Page 7. NOTE: The optional speed reduction gear box is required when Raking, Fluffing or Turning. The forward (aggressive) or retarded (less aggressive) position is determined by the assembly position of clip (U). Figure 7-2. When Tedding, place tines in the forward position. When Raking, Fluffing or Turning place tines in the retard position. See Figure 7-3. NOTE: The optional speed reduction gear box is required when Raking, Fluffing or Turning. TINE SAVER ASSEMBLY An optional spring tine keeper strap can be obtained and assembled to the tines to prolong tine life. If a tine breaks it will be held in place by the neighboring tine and thus cannot be lost. Secure as shown in Figure 7-2, using (2) M6 x 25 Cap Screws, Flat Washer and Lock Nut.
