The company Industrias Tomás Morcillo, S.L. manufactures exclusively for the whole world the Polycart, a monoblock 100% recyclable polypropilene shopping cart. AIMPLAS, the Technological Institute of Plastics, at its Physical & Mechanical and Metrology Laboratories performs on the Polycart, the needed technical tests according to the current regulation UNE EN 1929-1:1998 on shopping carts, guaranteeing the quality and good performance of the product for its market release. AIMPLAS, is a Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT) recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. Created in 1990 as a national managerial association; it belongs to the regional Network of Technological Institutes (REDIT) and is also an active member of the following international networks: EU-ROPLAS, SusCompNet, and IBEROCIT. 6

Future Ready. The Polycart is already fully adapted to the RFID electronic tag and to the arc-scanner readers for these tags. The fully of partially made metal shopping carts cause "Faraday effect" interferences when read by an arc-scanner. AECOC (Asociación española de códigos de comercio) has built an EPC room at its headquarters to research on RFID labeling. In it there are scanners for automated checkout, RFID labels, and a Polycart as the first fully adapted cart to the new electronic labeling. IBM is using the Polycart in the United States for its demos on RFID to the supermarket companies. 8
