C Issued June 2017 Applications Refer to the QuickLIT website for the most up-to-date version of this document. The M9000-400 Jackshaft Linkage Kit is designed to simplify the installation of select Johnson Controls actuators onto dampers with jackshafts. The open-ended design enables the linkage to clamp onto a jackshaft without requiring access to the ends of the jackshaft. The maximum jackshaft diameter that can be accommodated is 1.05 in. (26.7 mm). A reversible metal clamp insert accommodates 1/2 and 3/4 in. (13 and 19 mm) jackshafts. For tight installation spaces, the actuator anti-rotation plate enables actuator installations to be rotated 90 degrees. Use the M9000-400 Jackshaft Linkage Kit: on a simple damper and jackshaft. on a jackshaft that connects multiple sections of damper together. to allow damper operation from either side of the HVAC equipment. when dampers are recessed into walls or equipment and the side of the damper is not accessible for control shaft mounting. IMPORTANT: Do not apply actuators in excess of 90 lb in (10 N m) rated torque on a 1/2 in. (13 mm) jackshaft. Installation Choose an actuator from one of the series listed in Table 1. There is a torque reduction associated with use of the M9000-400. Table 1: Torque Reduction by Actuator Series Actuator Series Resultant Torque M9108 Series 68 lb in (7.7 N m) M9116 Series 131 lb in (14.8 N m) M9124 Series 195 lb in (22.0 N m) M9208 Series 68 lb in (7.7 N m) M9220 Series 164 lb in (18.5 N m) M9308 Series 68 lb in (7.7 N m) M9310 Series 87 lb in (9.8 N m) M9320 Series 164 lb in (18.5 N m) M9335 Series 284 lb in (32.1 N m) 1
There are three basic locations to mount the kit: Parallel to the damper inside air stream (Figure 15) Perpendicular to the damper inside air stream (Figure 17) Outside the air stream (no illustration available) When mounting, check that there is at least 3 in. (76 mm) of space between the damper blade and the jackshaft. Also check that the mounting location allows for the 4-3/4 in. (121 mm) width of the linkage. To install the M9000-400 Jackshaft Linkage Kit: 1. Set the jackshaft clamp to the correct size for the jackshaft. Figure 1: Setting the Jackshaft Clamp 2. Insert the retainer. Figure 2: Inserting the Retainer 2
3. Remove two screws and adjust the anti-rotation bracket length to fit the type of actuator used. See Figure 3 and Table 2. 4. Move the linkage to the side shown for proper rotation direction. Figure 4: Setting for Rotation Direction 5. Place the linkage assembly onto the jackshaft. Figure 5: Placing the Linkage Assembly onto the Jackshaft 4
6. Set the clamp against the jackshaft. Figure 6: Setting the Clamp against the Jackshaft 7. Install the V-bolt but do not tighten it. Figure 7: Installing the V-Bolt 5
8. Secure the V-bolt to the shaft. Figure 8: Securing the V-Bolt to the Shaft 9. With the linkage in place, secure the linkage to the damper frame with the anti-rotation L-bracket. Secure the adapter plate to the anti-rotation L-bracket with the flat-head screws. See Figure 9. Note: The anti-rotation L-bracket can rotate to any angle. If necessary, use the additional adapter plate for smaller bearings. Figure 9: Installing the Anti-Rotation L-Bracket 6
10. Secure the anti-rotation L-bracket (with or without the adapter plate) to the shaft bearing bracket, using the self-tapping screws. Figure 10: Securing the Anti-Rotation L-Bracket 11. Secure the adapter plate to the standoff. Figure 11: Securing the Adapter Plate 7
12. With the anti-rotation L-bracket attached, slide the linkage until the tab on the anti-rotation L-bracket aligns with the slot in the linkage. Figure 12: Aligning the Tab on the Anti-Rotation L-Bracket with the Slot in the Linkage 13. Place the actuator onto the linkage assembly. Figure 13: Placing the Actuator onto the Linkage Assembly 8
14. Tighten the hex nuts on the clamp to secure the actuator in place. Tighten the hex nuts to a torque of 100 to 125 lb in (11 to 14 N m). Figure 14: Tightening the Hex Nuts on the Clamp Figure 15: Complete Installation; Parallel to Damper 9
