TVR Chassis Specialists Whether you require a full body-off chassis restoration, replacement outriggers, a new TVR chassis or a set of TVR wishbones, RT Racing offers you a complete and comprehensive chassis service. Your chassis is the backbone of your TVR and the item upon which every other part of your car hangs. It is easily overlooked. It's not as exciting as a brake upgrade or a new chip for your ECU and it is not as aesthetically pleasing as a re-spray or a new carpet. But it is a whole lot more important, in fact it is critical. RT Racing in Sheffield has been restoring & building TVR chassis for over 20 years and has recently opened a new chassis shop to increase their throughput of TVR chassis. Chassis Repair A TVR chassis can be a minefield to the uninitiated and it is not only the outriggers you need to check. As you can see in the before and after pictures featured below, the lower chassis rail is vulnerable to corrosion. This can be very hard if not impossible to see with the body in situ, only after lifting the body off the chassis do you see the full extent of what needs repairing. We have returned this chassis to its former glory and it is now ready for many more years of life. We can handle any chassis problems from a simple crack or corrosion issues to accident damage and re-jigging
TVR Brand New Chassis Our production jigs produce a geometrically perfect chassis every time. Fabricated by experienced hands we take the utmost care to produce a precision made perfect chassis every time. We produce both replacement road car chassis and uprated competition spec chassis, in addition to that we also produce LS spec chassis for cars undergoing an engine conversion. Once complete our chassis comes with the ultimate in protection. After manufacture the chassis is bead blasted to ensure the very best surface key, then Phosphate dipped followed by Zinc coating and finally epoxy powder coated. This 4 stage protection process is carried out on all of our new chassis, repaired chassis & wishbones. Outrigger Replacement Your outriggers are arguably the most important part of your chassis. They not only locate and support the body in place but also provide a good level of protection from side impacts along with providing a secure anchor point for your seatbelt mountings. Needless to say, corroded and weakened outriggers offer much reduced levels of protection.
At RT Racing we take outrigger restoration very seriously. Our specially manufactured TVR outriggers are produced directly from our chassis jig to ensure precise accuracy. Outriggers can be replaced with the body in situ in many cases. Utilising our custom welding plant and technique ensures that the outriggers are fitted and welded correctly with full weld penetration around the tube. This ensures the strength and integrity of the chassis is fully maintained. TVR Wishbones Here in our workshops we manufacture a wide range of wishbones and other chassis parts for most models of TVR. Our production jigs cover models from Griffith and Chimera up to the latest Tuscans and Sagaris. All are manufactured to exacting tolerances then powder coated for a durable long lasting finish. Available ex stock and can usually be shipped immediately. Bushes thrust washers and bolt kits are also available.
Full Body-Off Chassis Restoration Restoration We offer a professional and truly bespoke chassis restoration service which can be tailored to suit your requirements. With 20 years chassis restoration experience RT Racing can remove the body without having to lay a hand on the paintwork and restore the chassis, helping to return your pride and joy to its former glory. Our chassis restoration starts with a full body lift off and the car stripped to a bare chassis. Then chassis, wishbones and other brackets and mounts are shot blasted to remove all traces of corrosion. Once complete and free of all traces of rust the chassis is carefully inspected and checked for alignment. The chassis is then re-tubed and all mounting plates and body mounts replaced as required. Once done a further chassis alignment check is carried out, along with a final sandblast to key all surfaces in anticipation of powder coating which is then completed along with all wishbones etc before re-assembly, wax oiling and refitting the body.
During this process many other operations can be carried out, such as electrical repairs, re-trimming and engine and gearbox rebuilds.
