TactAir 4-Stage PCP Hand Pump Operation Manual

INTRODUCTION Thank you for choosing the TactAir 4-Stage PCP Hand Pump! Always exercise caution when operating this pump. It will allow you to fill your PCP airguns with ease. Please read the entire manual very carefully before use. Any damage or injury resulting from misuse or incorrect handling is the sole responsibility of the owner and/or operator. This symbol marks warnings and cautions in this operation manual. Carefully follow them for your own safety and the safety of others. WARNING! 1. Use only if you are physically able to perform the motions required to operate this hand pump. Do not operate in or around standing water or in an area where liquid contaminants can be drawn into the pump. 2. Do not operate near smoke or an open flame. 3. This pump generates pressurized air and can become hot to the touch during heavy use. The pressure bleeding procedure may be loud. Eye, skin, and ear protection are recommended during use. 4. The hand pump should only be dismantled by a competent technician, otherwise serious damage/injury/death may be caused to you or others. 5. Improper disassembly/reassembly will result in leaks, damage, and may void your warranty. 6. Never attempt to dismantle any portion of this pump while it is pressurized or is hot after use. 7. Use only approved filters, hoses, fittings, and accessories. It is your responsibility to check for leaks before using to fill (see instructions later in this manual). 8. This hand pump is designed to produce compressed air only. Do not attempt to feed other gasses or pressurized air through for compression. NO OTHER GAS OR GAS COMBINATION CAN BE USED. 9. Failure to follow instructions and heed warnings may result in damage, serious injury, and/or death. This hand pump has a maximum operating pressure of 4500 PSI (310 BAR). Do not operate above this pressure! WHAT S IN THE BOX? TactAir PCP Hand Pump Pressure Gauge, Pump Handle Fill Hose w/ Inline Filter and Foster QD Fitting Assembly Tools, Hardware Spare Seal Kit, Test Plug Spare Filter Media Operation Manual 2

BEFORE YOU BEGIN CAUTION This hand pump is not intended to produce breathable air. To reliably produce clean and dry air, the filter media must be monitored on a regular basis and changed when necessary. Filter life will vary due to many factors, including but not limited to: humidity, temperature, purge frequency, and cycle times. An additional inline filter may be necessary for high-humidity environments. Wear safety glasses when operating this equipment. Always monitor the system pressure during operation. Do NOT fill any reservoir above your airgun or air reservoir s maximum pressure rating, and NEVER fill above 310 BAR / 4500 PSI for any reason. Remain clear of manual purge discharge opening. The escaping air can cause damage. Noise from purging may be loud, especially if you are in a small space. Hearing protection is recommended while using this hand pump. When filling a large reservoir, the hand pump may become warm or hot to the touch. If the pump body is hot, discontinue use until it has cooled back to room temperature before continuing. When filling a large reservoir, frequent breaks are recommended. DO NOT overwork, exhaust, or otherwise strain yourself while operating this hand pump. If you feel fatigued, discontinue use immediately. This hand pump may require upwards of 200 Lbs of force to reach maximum pressure (170 Lbs at 3000 PSI). SECTION INDEX 1. 3. INITIAL SETUP INSTRUCTIONS It is recommended that you follow these initial setup instructions before using your hand pump for filling. Failure to do so may result in poor performance or premature breakdown. 1. Select a clean location and be sure you have plenty of room to unpack and assemble your hand pump. 2. First, locate the assembly tools pictured on the previous page. They are packed in the inner box, that will also contain the microbore hose, replacement O-rings, and filter elements. 3. Unpack the gauge from its box and use the spanner wrench to tighten it into place. 4. Unpack the handle, locate the two machine thread screws and hex key from the inner box and use to install the handle. Note that the handle will have a flattened area on one side. The flattened side faces and contacts the top of the pump. 5. Unpack the microbore hose and HAND TIGHTEN it, making sure to orient the hard angled line upward as in the photo on the previous page. 6. Using one spanner wrench, check that the anchor for the hose is secure, then use the second spanner to tighten the hose to the anchor. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN! 7. Install the brass test plug into the quick disconnect fitting of the hose. 8. Check that the bleed valve is closed. Pump the hand pump until it reaches 1500 PSI and stop. Watch the gauge and listen for any indication of pressure loss. 9. If any leaks are detected, open the bleed valve, and tighten the fitting at which the leak occurred. 10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 at 3000 and 4500 PSI. DO NOT OVER PRESSURIZE! 11. Open the bleed valve to release the pressurized air. 4. USING THE HAND PUMP TO FILL 1. Attach the included Hatsan probe adapter to your Hatsan fill probe and tighten securely. 2. Connect your fill probe to the fill hose on the hand pump and insert the probe into your airgun. 3. Make sure that the bleed valve is closed, and begin pumping. 4. Once you have reached your desired fill pressure or the maximum operating pressure of the airgun s reservoir, stop pumping and open the bleed valve. DO NOT OVERFILL! 5. Remove the fill probe from your airgun and hang it by the hose hanger on the pump s handle. If filling a non-hatsan airgun or other reservoir equipped only with a Foster type quick disconnect: I. Connect the fill hose to your airgun or storage reservoir. II. Make sure that the bleed valve is closed, and open any equipped fill valve. III. Once you have reached your desired fill pressure or the maximum fill pressure of the reservoir you are filling, stop pumping. IV. Close the fill valve if so equipped. Open the bleed valve to release pressure from the pump and fill hose. V. Disconnect the hose from your airgun or reservoir. CAUTION: Read the owner s manual for your airgun/reservoir for specific filling instructions that may not be covered above. Never overfill your storage reservoir beyond its rated capacity. 5

5. MAINTENANCE Proper maintenance of your hand pump is critical to its longevity. Failure to properly maintain it will result in premature failure, and may void your warranty. Use only approved filters, hoses, fittings, and accessories. It is your responsibility to check for leaks before using to fill. Use only high quality silicone-based oil for lubrication. Failure to do so may result in accelerated wear and premature failure. Only place oil on the pump shaft. DO NOT ALLOW OIL TO ENTER THE AIR INLET! To reliably produce clean and dry air, the dryer filter media must be monitored on a regular basis and changed when necessary. Filter life will vary due to many factors, including but not limited to: humidity, temperature, purge frequency, and cycle times. Filters are easily replaced by unscrewing the filter body from the hose using the included spanner wrenches. Certain climates and operating conditions may warrant the use of an additional inline filter. Contact HatsanUSA or your retailer to order this part. Parts of this hand pump could become hot enough to cause burns. If the pump becomes hot to the touch, discontinue use immediately and allow it to cool down to room temperature. Failure to do so may result in premature seal and valve failure. 6. TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Possible Cause(s) Solution(s) Pump does not build pressure Bleed valve open Hose disconnected Rebuild required System leak Close the bleed valve. Connect test plug or fill reservoir. Use included O-ring kit to replace any damaged O-rings or valve parts. Perform leak test. Follow instructions on pg 5 (3-8,9,10). Pump builds pressure slowly or leaks while filling Bleed valve not fully closed Reservoir leak Close the bleed valve securely. Refer to your airgun or reservoir manufacturer s instructions. Pump is difficult to operate Rebuild required High pressure One-way valve stuck or damaged Use included O-ring kit to replace any damaged O-rings or valve parts. Pump may require 200 lbs of force to operate at max (4500PSI) pressure. Use included O-ring kit to replace any damaged valve parts. If you experience a problem that is not covered by this troubleshooting guide, or if you continue to have the same problem, discontinue use and contact HatsanUSA (Service@HatsanUSA.com or (877)-278-4448 x201) for assistance. 6
