Activity Title: W37 Down Goods Day: Wednesday Season & Weather: Autumn & clear Difficulty: Medium Time to complete: 2.5 hours Description: Activity W37 (Goods Train) was a general goods service that left Penrith Sidings at 1155 and arrived at its destination, Bathurst at 0935 (next morning). W37 could be built up to a full load from Katoomba through to Eskbank, but this would require the train to be worked down the Zig Zag in two parts. Briefing: You train is waiting at Mt Victoria for the arrival of W30 stock service before it can depart. Your timetable is as follows: Mt Victoria 1534 / 1538 - Cross W26, W30 Hartley Vale 1550 Bell 1600 Clarence 1622 / 1625 - Cross W100 Edgecombe 1633 Top points 1638 / 1640 Bottom points 1645 / 1707 - Cross W88 Eskbank Coal Stage 1715 / 1727 Eskbank 1730 / 1805 Bowenfels 1811 - Cross W72 Upon arrival at top points you will need to work your train down the Zig Zag as follows: i) Divide the train at the first brakevan, and take the first section down the ZZ and shunt it into the UP Wing road.
ii) Take the second section down the ZZ and place in the Down Wing road. The locomotive should be detached from this section of the train. iii) Attach locomotive to the first section and then couple this part of the train to the section of the train to make the train complete again. Your train should be then standing in the Down Wing. The activity will finish at Bowenfels where you are to attach a bank locomotive to assist for the next section of line. When undertaking shunting activities that involves coupling or uncoupling from your train, remember the following points: Uncoupling / Coupling Use the F9 ( Train Operations ) menu to uncouple the train at the point required. Note that you will need to close the rear angle cock in the Car Operation Menu of the last car in the shortened train to ensure that the brakes will release. In the Brake Info HUD the angled cock status is indicated by a + if open, and a - if closed. You will not be able to release the brakes until you have closed the brake pipe at the point where the train was uncoupled. Coupling will require you to reverse onto your train at slow speed, around 4 mph. Once the Train Operations menu has indicated that the cars have coupled to the train, you will need to open the brake cocks at the point where you coupled to the train and ensure that the brake pipe is continuous all the way through the train. To change the status use the Car Operation Menu, by clicking on the number of the car that you wish to change. If all else fails you can use the Shft / keys to reinitialise the brake system. Passing signals during shunting To pass signals whilst shunting you will need to switch to the Manual control mode by pressing Ctrl M. Remember to switch back to automatic mode by pressing the same keys once you are ready to continue the activity. You will need to be back at your starting position when you changed the control mode. Switching points To switch points you will need to toggle between automatic and manual modes (see above). To switch the point in front of the train, press G key, and to switch point behind the train press the Shft G keys.
