Tomatalk June 2018 Volume 43 ~ Number 6 The Tomatalk is published monthly by the Minnesota Chapter 13 of the Pontiac Oakland Club International. The Tomahawk Chapter was founded in 1977. The chapter is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of Pontiac, Oakland and GMC vehicles of all years and models, stock and modified. Club events are organized for the enjoyment of our members. All letters to the editor should be signed. Articles, letters and editorial content represent the opinions and viewpoints of the authors and not necessarily that of the Tomahawk Chapter or POCI. web site: tomatalk.org Officers President - Tony Miller 8044 Wood Duck Tr. President s Message I was unable to attend the May meeting, which I proudly say is a first for me since I ve been President, but unfortunately was out of my control. Because I know each of you eagerly await the monthly edition of Tomatalk and gleefully rip it open to behold my words of wisdom, I was searching for this month s inspiration and found this: I thought this was appropriate for each of us because not only is it fun to take the curved road for the thrill seekers and the adventurous as well, we all know that it also applies to the road of life. While some days are all sunshine and smiles and some are certainly not-so-fun, I have to give credit to those in the Club that have been an inspiration and mentor to those of us who have not been around as long. Not only are you valuable resources for mechanical and parts information, but many of you have shared stories of your friends and families which have ranged from celebrations and tribulations to overcoming those obstacles and offering support. People have various reasons for joining a Club, but I believe that the support it can offer is important because one does not become a skillful driver in life without great teachers - and for this, I thank you one and all. That being said, I hope you all had a safe and happy Memorial Day and I look forward to seeing you all at the June meeting! Tony Miller, Tomahawk Chief Page 2

POCI 2018 Convention Attention 2018 POCI convention goers!!! The Tomahawk Chapter has decided we will be taking the club trailer to the POCI convention in the Wisconsin Dells later this month. Due to it s close proximity to our club s demographics, we feel it would be a great advertising opportunity for our club to get it s name out there and possibly attract some new members. If any chapter members have some items they would like to take along to the convention, but may not fit in your vehicle, please contact Jim Notch at 952-594-5000 to make arrangements and he can possibly haul them over for you in the trailer. Please be aware that space is limited and weight restrictions might apply. New Yard Art Anyone? ASHEVILLE, NC After half a century of presiding over auto sales and comings and goings on busy Patton Avenue in West Asheville, the prominent Chief Pontiac statue at car dealership Harry s on the Hill will be removed, its owner says. We now consider the statue a relic from a different era that should be moved to a place of honor befitting the Chief s legacy, an announcement posted on the dealership s Facebook page said. Tim Dye is in the loop on this, maybe we ll see the Chief relocated to the POMARC in Pontiac, Illinois! The 23-foot-tall fiberglass statue was erected when what was then Harry s Cadillac-Pontiac Co. Inc. moved into its current location at 819 Patton Ave. in November 1967, according to a story in the Citizen Times archives. The statue s location on the edge of a hill above the street makes it easily visible for some distance. To read the complete story, visit: www.citizen-times.com Page 7
