American Wind s Story Founded from an Tragedy In April 27, 2011 there was a massive tornado out break in Northern Alabama. Besides the massive amounts of damage, there entire Huntsville area was without power for almost two weeks due to all the transmission lines being destroyed at Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant. While the power was out, sitting on the back deck of their house Shirley Yost observed their large fan spinning in the breeze. She then looked at Robert and said Why can t we power the house off of that. Robert having never thought of it said Well I don t know why we can t. With over 40 years of experience in: jet turbine, mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineering founder Robert Yost asked the question, How should a turbine be built? instead of How are wind turbines built. This idea brought on a wind turbine that had never been built before.

American Wind s Advantages All American Wind products share the same advantages Having an Extremely low cut in speed Never has to be shut down due to high wind speeds Providing Resilient and Secure power Going where Others Cannot Go Producing where Others Cannot Produce In micro grids, filling in the gap where solar fails Having an Extremely Short Payback Period Requiring Minimal Maintenance (Low O&M) Develops Minimal Noise and Heat signature Has Negligible Safety Risk and Environmental Impact Risk

American Wind s Advantages Size Traditionally one kilowatt (kw) wind turbines do not have a micro foot print. Despite being called a micro wind turbine, traditional turbines are typically six feet plus in diameter. This truth makes portability unlikely. American Wind, Inc s MicroCube does not share the flaws of traditional systems. Sized at nine inches in all directions, the MicroCube is portable and modular.

American Wind s Advantages Size Comparison Watts per square foot size comparison Conventional renewable energy systems produce large amounts of power but at the expense of large amounts of space. This limitation found in conventional systems reduces their applications. When you compare systems of equal electrical output you see the vast difference in American Wind, Inc s technology. To generate 3,000,000 watts of power, how big would the energy system need to be? Here is scale representation using 67,500ft 2 soccer fields. Certifications Private and University Proven Technology - wind tunnel and simulation confirmed It is important to note that regardless of the level of measurement accuracy and controllability, test data for a common test article will show some level of variation in performance when measured at different facilities. This is due to a variety of possible differences including measurement methods and instrumentation accuracy, facility operations, and the inherent limitations of how well a wind tunnel simulates real-world conditions. However, even with these possible effects impacting the test data, the revised JT results indicate improved agreement with GTRI data, which provides experimental confirmation of the performance of AWI s micro wind turbine designs -Jacobs Summary Statement

Testing Data Computational Fluid Dynamics Inlet Airflow Outlet Airflow Accelerated air flow, from a Wind Turbine? American Winds MicroCube is vastly different than conventional turbines. Instead of focusing on the lift mechanism of a wing (airfoil) to generate the rotation of MicroCube, American Winds engineers developed an 11 blade system that works more like a jet turbine. Wind Speed Velocity Very Low Low Medium High Back flow of air from outlet side of the MicroCube created by the increased velocity of wind from the turbine blade design. i.e. thrust created by blades In the image to the right shows the computational fluid dynamics analysis done by SIMSCALE in Germany. This shows the thrust that the MicroCube produces. This thrust reduces the drag forces on larger structures such as the Advanced WindWall and Portable Energy Power Source. The MicroCube also creates a much less turbulent air flow than conventional turbines. This allows the MicroCube to be placed in the z-axis (back to back). The less turbulent flow also makes operation near airports viable as well. Wind Speed Velocity Very Low Low Medium High Significant thrust (high airflow) beyond the back of the MicroCube. This reduces the drag forces on larger structures such as the Advanced WindWall and Portable Energy Power Source (PEPS).

Testing Data Computational Fluid Dynamics What does the competitors look like? If you look at the CFD modeling of conventional wind turbines you start to notice a large difference between American Winds technology and the conventional wind turbine market. As you see in the top image, once the air reaches the turbines blades it is not accelerated, but decelerated. This is a loss in energy that should be transferred to the generator. From the previous page, it is obvious the MicroCube does not share this attribute. The bottom image shows the turbulent air flow of conventional wind turbines. This is why they cannot be built around air ports or radar sites. This also is the reason they have to be placed so far apart.

Micro Grid Filling the gap in the Micro Grid. Filling in where solar alone falls short. Grid Power Advanced WindWall Solar Panels American Wind, Inc believes that all renewable energy sources are the key to a micro grid. But with current micro grids there is a problem. That problem is simple: Night. Solar panels produce power only during the day. This means you must have battery storage or generators to have power at night. With American Winds products we can fill the gap left by solar and create a truly renewable micro grid. Battery Storage Control System At the heart of any micro grid is the control system. This control/charge system controls where the power produced goes: to the home, to the battery bank, or both. In peak hours the control system might take power from the battery bank, solar panels and American Winds products ensuring the lights stay on at all times. Use of Power
