For sat navs use CV3 4FR The meeting will be in the Argosy Centre which is the building next to the hangar and by the Canberra and Mystere in the photo - now out of date.. There will be a charge of 2.50 per person for tea, coffee and biscuits payable in the Argosy Centre but this will also include admission to the museum which is normally 6.50. The museum also has a cafeteria. For further information, contact Chris Sayer on shedmodels@gmail.com Please come and join us
The main reason for this newsletter is to remind everyone about the 1/200 meeting in Coventry on the 14th October. I am very grateful to those who have already said they will be attending from considerable distances. Ron Crawford (and his wife Louise) of HBM models will be coming from Vermont, USA. Peter Krtina of Hai models is coming from Austria and Peter Jongbloed from the Netherlands. I hope many more will be joining them. Unfortunately, the aviation fair will not be on at the same time as us. It was so successful last year that they are using all the spaces, including the room we use, this year. It does mean it is easier to look round the museum and get a table in the cafe. When you arrive, say you are attending the meeting and you will not be required to pay the entrance fee to the museum. Please do pay the 2.50 for the refreshments in the meeting as it helps towards costs and is the only way to tell how many people attended. We aim to be set up and ready soon after 10am and start to pack up when it gets quiet which is soon after 2pm. Some of us have a long journey and want to be away before the Sunday evening rush. I hope that the following will be able to attend and take a table. Wojtek, who will unveil two exciting new models covering civil and military subjects. Martin Beacom hopes to attend, as does Paul Howard from Helmet. Geoff Noble has a number of finished models for sale and Martyn Redway and Steve hope to bring a new Korean War wargame. Aviation writer and photographer and Aeroplane Monthly columnist Denis Calvert should also be present. There will be a table available for others to use to display, sell and swop models. I do ask that if you do sell any models you make a contribution towards the considerable costs of holding the meeting. I hope to have kits ready of the models that Derek Barratt did not manage to produce. Four of the small models are being sold as a pairs to make the costs sensible. I have had these cast in resin to make them affordable and they have either metal undercarriage or carbon fibre reinforced resin ones. At the moment I have 15 sets of each model to make the exercise affordable. Some are already spoken for so don t delay. I will have more done if there is demand but this will take time. As I will have the pleasure of driving Ron and Louise to and from the meeting I will have less space in the car and so will NOT be bringing boxes of Shed Decals with me. I will be very happy to bring ordered decals if you contact me in advance. Similarly, if you wish for any older Shed Models, I will be happy to bring them to the meeting but will not be able to bring other supplies with me. Ron says he is looking forward to meeting you all. An inconsiderate neighbour has made so much water go on and under the shed of Shed Models that the floor and roof have rotted and I am having to replace it. This means I will not be able to have finished sample models on display. My airbrush is out of action for the duration of the change over. I will also try to sort out some of the other castings that Derek had accumulated but never got round to building. All the new models are of aircraft close to Derek s heart but may be less well known to some of us. The F101, F102, F104, F105, F106 and Ford Trimotor need no explanation. The Aerocar was a car that converted into a plane and was often photographed with Hollywood stars.
The Cosmic Wind was one of the tiny racing planes. One can still be seen in flying condition at Duxford. The Bellanca Air Cruiser was known as the C27 Airbus in USAAF service where it had the blue and yellow colour scheme. The D1/J9 was the first all metal fighter to go into service but proved to be not very manoeuvrable. The W34 can be made as wheeled or float and was an important prewar transport. There were many variations of the Dornier Wal monoplane flying Boat. This one is the one used in Artic exploration. The Junkers J1 of 1915 was known as the Tin Donkey and was the first practical all metal aircraft.
Hustler Unfortunately, so far, there have been few requests for Hustler recasts so it is on hold at the moment. Dassault Mercure A number of people have asked if I would make a Dassault Mercure. I have said that I would go ahead if I had at least 20 orders with deposits paid. The kit would be between 40 and 60 according to the number ordered. I would have to ask for a deposit as I still have a stack of biplanes that people asked for but did not buy. If you are not familiar with the Mercure, think of it as the French 737. So far I have had 12 statements of intent. Let me know if you are interested. Frantisek Sazel has asked me to publicise his models. He makes resin models in the Wiking style and are often of little known types. He also does copies of Wikings. He does not have a computer so you will have to write to him at Frantisek Sazell Luzica 10 77900 OLOMOUC Czech Republic. Mention TOTS.
