Light tire handling Application brochure
Changing tires efficiently and easily Efficient off-the-road tire management Managing the tires on large articulated dump trucks, scrapers and loaders is a very important job, a job that requires the right equipment. That s why Hiab has developed a series of specially designed tire handling cranes. A professional and complete tire management service means not only changing flat or worn down tires, but also making them last longer by rotating them between the front and rear axles, investigating flat tires after failure and much, much more. Bad tire management is an economical shortfall, as well as a waste of man hours and a big safety hazard. With Hiab tire handling cranes you get a highly efficient tool providing better, more convenient and easier service. Our light weight champions The HIAB XS 055 TH and it s slightly bigger brother, the XS 077 TH are two of our light weight cranes for this application. Depending on your choice the crane is delivered with the CL or HiDuo control system. The remotely controlled HiDuo is your choice if you want increased capacity and the freedom to position yourself at the best possible location when working. Both crane models fit on medium size trucks and the narrow installation space and low weight leaves a lot of room for valuable payload. Hiab offers you the best quality both construction wise and in terms of a large service network. 3
Taking care of our customers For OTR construction and mining companies the tires are often the second biggest expense on the job, next to fuel. A Hiab crane in the hands of a world class OTR service company can support the important task of keeping these expenses as low as possible. The crane uses a regular lifting hook, lifting straps or a variety of J-hooks to lift the tire. Then the specially developed boom tip breaks the bead, enabling the tire to come off the rim. Everything can be done standing close to the tire for precision moves, as well as at a safe distance when needed, all thanks to remote controlling. The HIAB XS 055 TH can handle tires up to 33.25 x 35 and with the HIAB XS 077 TH tires as large as 37.5 x 51 can be handled with ease. Hexagonal boom profile The hexagonal profile used on Hiab booms is a groundbreaking design introduced by Hiab many years ago. It is now standard throughout the market for loader cranes. Even the smallest Hiab crane benefits from this design. Side controls The levers are easy to manoeuvre, which in turn give a great feel. In addition to this the well proven Hiab cross-control solution increases safety and efficiency. Side controlled cranes are very competitive in price. Side controls benefit from the cross control solution giving the same sequence of levers on both sides of the truck. Column close to centreline On Hiab cranes with a rack-and-pinion slewing housing the centre of gravity is as close to the centreline as possible. This means that the same outreach is offered on both sides of the truck. Load-holding valve The load-holding valve enables you to lower loads without having to use engine power. This saves fuel, thereby lowering cost and noise levels. The built in hose-failure functionality also provides safety in the unlikely case that a hydraulic hose should burst. VSL Thanks to the VSL function drivers can give their full attention to driving the crane. The crane s intelligent system (SPACE) automatically takes care of the stability something that improves safety for you and those around you. 4
Hexagonal boom profile The hexagonal profile ensures the boom is always in perfect balance, thanks to its shape and large support surface. The profile also minimizes boom deflection, which reduces maintenance costs and increases efficiency. Internal extension cylinder The extension cylinder is placed inside the extension, thus preventing the cylinder rod from being damaged by the fenders. Bead-breaking tip A specially developed boom tip is used to press down on the tire, breaking the bead and enabling the tire to come off the rim. A regular boom tip will damage the tire when performing this action. JIC couplings JIC couplings are standard on most Hiab cranes. They ensure easy and secure coupling, but are still very simple to disconnect for service. Large slide pads The hexagonal profile enables the use of larger slide pads. This makes the extensions move more smoothly and reduces mechanical wear on the boom. 5
Choosing the right control system The CL (Classic) control system provides an excellent, versatile crane. Equipped with manual operator controls, Valve 80 and the SPACE 3000 intelligence system enables the crane to perform more than one crane function at the same time, smoothly and efficiently. The HiDuo control system is based upon the renowned Hiab Valve 80. HiDuo comes with the SPACE 4000 intelligence system which intelligently monitors and controls the electronic functions of your crane. These functions are focused on assisting the operator in two aspects, safety and productivity. The HiDuo control system support remote controlling with the XSDrive remote control. Automatic Speed Control (ASC) ASC gives a stepless increase in lifting capacity of up to 10%, all in one smooth, continuous motion. This feature, unique to Hiab, engages automatically, which means that the operator does not feel or notice a thing. The function activates as you reach the regular capacity limit, meaning that you can still lift the load where other cranes would have come to a complete stop. To compensate for the capacity boost, the speed of the inner and outer boom is slightly reduced. Capacity ceiling, safety and efficiency are significantly increased by this feature. Operating your crane by remote control A remote control unit enables you to position your self at the best possible location when operating the crane. This leads to more comfortable work. It is also more efficient, as you can act as your own loading assistant. Valve 80 The Hiab Valve 80 is a top-of-the-line open centre valve. It handles large oil flows and provides great precision and ease of operation. A-frame stabilizers Specially designed A-frame stabilizers are required for tire handling. This is due to the sideways pushing and pulling required in getting the tires off the rims. Regular stabilizer legs would easily bend from this type of work. 6
