Generic location risks (March 2017) Fire Staff, artistes, production and support staff and contractors. Fire extinguishers are located in each of the trailers and a checked when the trailers are released and booked-in. Policy and Procedures contains information on fire safety on location. Ensure fire extinguishers within the trailers are serviced annually. Electricity generator / electrics Staff, artistes, production and support staff and contractors who may be harmed A generator is hired for use on location. The hire company is available at short notice to assist with any problems. A BS7909 Competent Person s course has been taken by a number of staff and a Competent Person can be made available on location during commission or when the temporary electrical installation is moved or altered (if requested by the client). and PAT tested by a qualified electrician who is contracted to the company. Electric cables are usually run around pedestrian walkways to prevent trip hazards or, as a last resort, are covered with cable protectors. Heavy duty cable covers are used where vehicles may run over the cables. Toilet cleaning and gully sucking. Staff who may come into contact with human waste. Cassette toilets on the trailers are treated with Elsan Blue perfumed toilet cleaner. Elsan Blue is stored securely and applied by staff. There is little chance of contact with the skin, but protective clothing is available, i.e. a safety box is kept in the gully sucker and contains gloves, goggles, hard hat, footwear, eyewash and hand sanitiser. The instruction manual for the gully sucker is kept in the vehicle. The gully sucker is serviced and maintained to the manufacturer s Suggest to staff operating the gully sucker that they should ensure that their tetanus and typhoid inoculations are up to date. specification. Drivers hold the correct licence entitlements to drive the gully sucker and check the vehicle daily before use. Staff are trained / experienced to use the gully sucker and there is a safe system of work for toilet emptying, tank emptying and cleaning. There is a minimal risk of splashing when coupling / uncoupling the discharge hose. Staff were sent a memo advising them to have a Hepatitis immunisation vaccine for which they would be reimbursed. The company is registered as an upper tier carrier of controlled waste through the Environment Agency. Staff wear protective footwear, overalls and gloves when operating the gully sucker. First aid Staff may not receive suitable first aid treatment / first aid supplies may not be available. Each location would have a production medic available. Information on first aid is contained within the Policy and Procedures. Abuse of children and vulnerable adults by location staff Children and vulnerable adults need to be safeguarded from people who should not work with / alongside them. None. Longer term, the company might consider (a) Heads of Department attending a children and vulnerable adults awareness course; (b) Using the Disclosure and Barring Service to check relevant staff.
