Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter AB-A A (Calgary) Newsletter LAKE LOUISE December, 2008/January, 2009 Wing Wag www.goldwingcalgary.com Text and Photos: Holly Braden September 28, 2008 W hat a wonderful day it was for the last scheduled ride of the season. I was happier than most as it was my first time on the motorcycle in two years. Knee replacements have really made the difference. The breakfast table held almost 30 people, this always happens on nice days and this one was fabulous. The breakfast dice pot was won which added to the excitement too. Chapter members intending to go on the ride signed up for the poker run. The first two cards were drawn in the parking lot as everyone was getting ready. Underway, we had 15 bikes and 18 people. Half an hour later we were on the final stretch of 16 th Ave. westward bound. Two more bikes caught up with us as we passed (Continued on page 3) Jan 9-11 Jan 12 Feb 9 Mar 28 Coming Events 2009 Motorcycle Show Monthly Meeting Monthly Meeting First Aid Course What s Inside Christmas Party 2008...2 2009 Motorcycle Show...4 Travel Pics...6 Safety First...8 News & Notices...9 Classifieds...10 Calgary Area Staff Listing...10

Wing Wag December, 2008/January, 2009 Page 3 (Continued from page 1) through Montgomery (they are only riding as far as Bragg Creek and then heading back). At Bowfort Rd. Ron & Betty s son joined us. Once at Bragg Creek we had to wait while two of the riding groups arrived. Finally all together, 14 bikes now and we draw two more cards. Then we head south toward Hwy. 762. We weren t able to go through the twists and turns as fast as most wanted Once we reached the first cattle guards, we realized that the road had been repaired. As we travelled further west we also noted that the repaired pavement only went as far as the Blue Rock Campground. From the campground to the Blue Rock Picnic Area was the same old pot holed surface we road over 2 years ago. Surprisingly, there was a lot of space to park the bikes though. We had a bit of a problem finding a table, just missing 2 that we could have used. Bob spread out the table cloths, we all opened our lunch bags, sat at the one table, stood or sat on the ground and gabbed. We drew our final card Brenda won with 2 pair. The conversation gradually turned to the bees that were flying around. Bob explained that they were drones, thrown out of the hive. Last time we were here, the bees were docile enough to be picked up. This time they were more flighty and zipped away. More conversation led to Bob telling us about his bee keeping hobby of the past. Darryl asked if there was a scientific name for a bee keeper. Anyone know if there is a special name for them? After lunch, Sid suggested that we visit Sheep River Falls on the way back. It was not far. A short but difficult walk to me but thank you to everyone for their help down the slope and up again. Sid had us all go out to a rocky ledge above the falls for a picture. Brenda stayed up top to take a picture of all of us. I took a picture of her too. to do, as we were following a truck and horse trailer who were going a moderate speed. Once in Turner Valley, we waited while Susan fueled up her bike. Just west of Turner Valley we see a sign which reads Blue Rock 38 km. It s beautiful out here. The leaves are just turning, not as yellow as in the city though. It s a warm day without being hot. Wonderful! WW
