CYCLONE PocketMax PP-1000 Compact Battery Pack for Portable Flashes User Manual

Thank you for choosing Bolt. The PocketMax battery pack will provide up to 1,000 flashes at full power and boost the recycle speed of your shoe-mount flash unit. The light, compact design and convenient carry pouch make this an essential piece of gear for on-the-go photographers. With the included multivoltage charger, the PocketMax can be used in the US and abroad. 2 Introduction

Warnings Do not disassemble or attempt to maintain this product yourself. There are high-voltage components inside the PocketMax. Contact with them can produce a dangerous electric shock. Keep out of reach of children. Do not touch the metal part of the power output socket. Do not use this product in flammable conditions, such as environments containing flammable gases or liquid chemicals. This product is not water resistant. Keep it away from rain, snow, and humidity. Do not store or use this product at temperatures above 113 F (45 C). Use this product only with the included charger. To avoid overheating and damaging your flash unit, wait for at least 10 minutes after 40 continuous flashes at full power. The PocketMax has a much higher power output than the AA batteries used by your flash unit. Refer to your flash unit s manual for information on its continuous full-power flash capacity and limitations. Remove any cable from the power output port when the PocketMax is not in use or charging, and cover the socket firmly with the multifunction socket cover. Make sure the cable is firmly connected when using or charging the PocketMax. Images are for illustrative purposes only. Warnings 3

Charging the PocketMax A new PocketMax power pack will perform most effectively after two or three uses. 1. Plug the AC adapter into an AC outlet. 2. Plug the adapter s power cable into the charging port. The charge indicator will glow a constant red while the PocketMax is charging. When the indicator turns off, the PocketMax is fully charged. 3. Remove the charger cable before using the PocketMax. The universal voltage charger can be used outside of the US. Attach the appropriate plug adapter, and attach the charger to any 100 to 240 V AC power outlet. To remove the plug adapter, press the lock button, and slide the plug adapter off the AC adapter. 6 Charging the PocketMax

Checking the Battery Level: Press the battery indicator button to illuminate the battery status indicator LEDs. For Maximum Charge Capacity Lithium-ion batteries gradually lose their charge when not in use. To ensure the PocketMax has its maximum charge, recharge the PocketMax before use. Charge the PockMax at moderate room temperature. When it s not in use, avoid storing it in hot environments. 100% 75% 30% If the power indicator rapidly blinks green, the PocketMax is exhausted and needs to be recharged. Note: It s normal for the PocketMax to get warm during charging. Once charging is complete, the PocketMax will return to room temperature. Charging the PocketMax 7

Connecting the PocketMax to Your Flash The PocketMax requires the PP-1000 power cable (included in kits, available separately) to connect to a flash. Install your flash s batteries before connecting it to the PocketMax. Most flash units require batteries to be installed in order to power the display functions that allow the flash to work. You may need to activate a setting or custom function on your flash to make it draw power only from the PocketMax and not the internal batteries. Refer to your flas s instructions for information about relevant settings. 8 Connecting the PocketMax to Your Flash

1 1. Plug the power cable into the PocketMax by aligning the dots on the plug and the socket. Make sure the plug is fully inserted into the power output port. 2. Turn the locking ring clockwise until secure. 3. Plug the other end of the connection cable into the your flash. When the flash is turned on the PocketMax will automatically activate to supply power. 3 Connecting the PocketMax to Your Flash 9

Using Your Flash with Your PocketMax To ensure that you don t miss important moments when you re shooting, your PocketMax can recycle a shoemount flash at full power in approximately 1.5 seconds. You can expect up to 1000 full-power flashes, depending on the specific unit you re using. To get the best use out of your PocketMax Use the PocketMax in environments with moderate temperatures. When lithium-ion batteries get cold, they lose some of their ability to supply power. However, this doesn t mean that they ve lost their charge, and they regain the ability to supply power when their temperature returns to a more moderate level. Don t fire more than 20 full-power flashes in a row. Exceeding the recommended number can overheat and even damage your flash. The PocketMax has a much higher power output than the AA batteries used by your flash unit. Refer to your flash s manual for information on its continuous full-power flash capacity and limitations. When not in use, unplug all devices from the PocketMax to prevent draining the battery s power. 10 Using Your Flash with Your PocketMax

Tip: If you re shooting in a very cold environment, you can keep power flowing to your flash by alternating two PocketMaxes. Keep one pack indoors at room temperature or in an interior pocket next to your body while using the other pack. Then switch the two packs when the one in use starts losing its ability to power your flash. Using Your Flash with Your PocketMax 11

Charging Other Devices Use the included USB cable to charge compatible USB devices such as smartphones or tablets. 1. Plug the USB cable into the PocketMax by aligning the white dots on the plug and the socket. Make sure the plug is fully inserted into the socket. 2. Connect your USB device to the USB adapter. Note: The power indicator will not illuminate while a USB device is charging. 12 Charging Other Devices

Troubleshooting Problem The PocketMax is charged and connected to a flash unit, but no indicator lights illuminate when it s recycling. The PocketMax is not powering the flash, and a solid green light has appeared. The red light is blinking. Solution Make sure the flash unit is turned on. Refer to your flash unit s instructions if a setting or custom function on your flash needs to be activated to make it draw power only from the PocketMax and not the internal batteries. Make sure the connection cable is not damaged or that the correct cable is attached. The PocketMax has become hot due to a long series of continuous flashes, and the pack has automatically shut off to prevent overheating. Allow the PocketMax to cool before using it again. This indicates a malfunction. Contact the manufacturer. 14 Troubleshooting
