What is Check 3 GPS? The Air Combat Command Safety Office initiated the Check 3 GPS risk management concept to help Airmen prevent injuries and hazards when participating in high risk activities. The Check 3 GPS program refers to three areas to check prior to engaging in potentially high-risk activities: Gear, Plan and Skills (GPS). Gear may encompass details such as personal protective equipment, fuel and tire pressure, charging a mobile phone to call for help, or having spare water. Plan may refer to considering details such as the timeline, weather and sequence, identity of an emergency contact, and notifying family and friends of the plan so they can follow up if needed. Skills may include prior training or self-study of the activity, experience level, plus ways to prevent fatigue or distraction that can compromise skills.
Website Launch ACC is launching a year-long program of pushing out content, videos, resources and apps for Airman to reference in their off-duty high risk activities. www.check3gps.com
High Risk Activities Each month, two activities will be featured, such as Rock Climbing/Rappelling and All-Terrain Vehicles. The website will provide information, tools and resources to help Airmen reduce their mishap risk as they engage in each activity. Data on behaviors that result in the largest numbers of mishaps, injuries and fatalities can be used to drive content selection and to emphasize activity risk.
