SERVICE PROCEDURE RECOMMENDATIONS The service repair procedures recommended within the various parts in this Manual are usually written assuming that the assembly to be repaired has been removed from Tractor. However, much of the servicing can be performed without complete removal of assembly... it will require judgment of serviceman to determine necessity of removal, while taking into consideration, degree and extent of servicing required. Following important points should be remembered and practiced. TROUBLE-SHOOT AND CLEAN TRACTOR BEFORE DISASSEMBLY. If possible, make a complete diagnosis to determine extent of repair which should be performed. Take all precautions as necessary to prevent dirt or other foreign material from entering. hydraulic, fuel and air system. DO NOT MIX PARTS. Be alert during disassembly to detect presence of special parts which should not be interchanged. INSPECT PARTS DURING DISASSEMBLY AND CLEAN THOROUGHLY. LABEL PARTS AND PROTECT PRECISION OR MACHINED SURFACES. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE PARTS. THE USE OF NON RECOMMENDED SUBSTITUTE REPLACEMENT PARTS MAY BE A SOURCE OF ADDED TROUBLE. Do not assume that if parts look alike, they are the same. The majority of parts have special properties known only by the manufacturer. They are the result of particular requirements established by extensive research and testing of complete Tractor through combined efforts of MF's engineering research and MF's service department field experience. There is a continual program to further improve existing parts. Many of these improvements cannot be detected by visual examination between old anci new items. Th!jlrefore, it is extremely important that only genuine MF replacement parts be used to repair an MF Tractor. -4-

-TESTING AND TROUBLE-SHOOTING FIG. 1 FIG. 3 CHECKING PUMP PRESSURE 1. Set parkin,g brake, then lower loader and backhoe to ground (or use supports and lock pins). 2. Connect a 2000 psi (minimum range) gauge into pump pressure line. Use "T" fitting ND-135-6.1, 1, adapter D31, 2, and hose assembly D19 HP, 3. Test fittings are from ND-112 kit. Fig. 1 shows connection for pump on gasoline engine models and Fig. 2 shows connection for pump on diesel engine models. NOTE: Be sure line is not contacting fan belt on diesel engine models. 3. Check oil level in reservoir, be sure it is filled to proper level with Permatran Lubricant. Start engine, turn wheels left to right without blowing relief valve to clear air from lines. Stop engine and recheck fluid level. 4. Start engine, turn wheels against stop to blow relief valve. Allow oil to reach 150 F and take reading. Pressure should be 1100-1200 psi at 2000 engine rpm. Stop engine and remove gauge. Reconnect lines and remove air from system or remove pump for repair. 5. Both pumps have an adjustable relief valve. On gasoline engine models, relief valve can be reached after removing cover and oil filter from pump. Fig. 3 shows relief valve adjusting screw location, 1. On diesel engine models, remove pump cover, loosen locknut, 1, and turn adjusting screw, 2, Fig. 4. Tighten lock nut and recheck pressure. Pump removal may be required to successfully install filter and spring. FIG. 2 FIG. 4-2-

Install special "T" bolts with nuts and flatwashers through holes in clutch cover, Fig. 8. NOTE: Each "T" bolt can be made from a piece of 114 inch "ready bolt" approximately six inches long with a three inch piece of 1 /4 inch rod welded to one end. 3. Tighten "T" bolt nuts evenly to depress release levers. 4. Alternately loosen capscrews, and remove clutch cover assembly, primary friction disc and air ring from flywheel, Fig. 9.
