INTRODUCTION Facility Summary Messier-Bugatti-Dowty is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and customer support of all types of aircraft landing gear, wheels and brakes and a wholly owned subsidiary of Safran SA. It is the world's largest manufacturer of aircraft landing gear. Messier-Bugatti-Dowty has operational sites across the globe. The sites are located in Asia (Singapore, Suzhou), Europe (Vélizy, Bidos, Gloucester), Canada (Toronto, Montreal), Mexico (Querétaro) and United States (Seattle). The main headquarters is located in Vélizy, outside Paris. Each site is responsible for certain aspects of landing gear design, manufacture and support. The Ajax facility is involved in the design and development of fully integrated landing gear systems. It also focuses on ancillary systems such as steering control, landing gear control and indication, emergency control, brake control, wheels, brakes, tires, door mechanisms and electrical harnesses. This site is the final assembly area where landing gear systems for many aircraft are fully assembled and tested before shipping to the customer. Wherever feasible, we will eliminate or reduce the use, creation and discharge of Butane (all isomers), Cobalt (and its compounds), Hydrotreated light distillate, Hydrotreated heavy naphtha, Isopropyl alcohol, Nickel (and its compounds) and Propane in full compliance with all Federal and Provincial Regulations. Our employees are encouraged to participate in all types of toxic substance reduction activities. Toxic substance reduction will be an ongoing effort for Messier- Dowty, and we will continue to monitor technological advancements to ensure that options which are both technologically and financially viable are implemented at our facility. With reference to the Ontario Toxics Reduction Act, the reduction objectives are outlined in Section 4.0 of this Plan Summary for the reportable substances - Butane (all isomers), Cobalt (and its compounds), Hydrotreated light distillate, Hydrotreated heavy naphtha, Isopropyl alcohol, Nickel (and its compounds) and Propane - at Messier-Dowty. 2013 Pinchin Environmental Ltd. 3.0 SUBSTANCES REQUIRING PLANS Butane, Hydrotreated light distillate, Hydrotreated heavy naphtha, Isopropyl alcohol and Propane are contained in penetrants used for non-destructive testing. Cobalt and Nickel are bound in alloys used at the facility. 4.0 OBJECTIVES OF THE PLAN & ANY TARGETS Messier-Dowty prides itself on technological innovation in order to produce high quality products in an environmentally responsible manner. We will strive to minimize the use of Butane (all isomers), Cobalt (and its compounds), Hydrotreated light distillate, Hydrotreated heavy naphtha, Isopropyl alcohol, Nickel (and its compounds) and Propane. Further, as part of the continuous improvement practices at the facility, technical advances will be monitored for new opportunities to reduce the use at the facility. At this time, there are no specific objectives. 5.0 OPTIONS TO BE IMPLEMENTED (OR STATEMENT THAT NONE ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED) At this time, no options have been identified for implementation. The facility s continuous improvement measures, coupled with the acknowledgment that the customer provides the specifications for the raw materials processed at the site mean that at this time, there are no additional options for the facility to implement.
