SECTORS SYNERGIES: RAIL AND ENERGY LINKS FOR BETTER CLIMATE VINCENT DELCOURT INNOVATION & RESEARCH ENERGY INNOVATION PROGRAMME MANAGER

SNCF ENERGY CONSUMPTION : KEY FIGURES 16,9 TWh SNCF energy consumption in 2015 1 st SNCF is the biggest industrial energy consumer in France with 10% of the industrial energy consumption and 3% of total national consumption. 60% Of total energy consumption used for traction + 10 TWh Electricity 78 % Diesel 22% 2

ENERGY AS A PERFORMANCE DRIVER OF THE RAILWAY SYSTEM AND AT THE HEART OF NEW MOBILITY SYSTEMS 1 Removing diesel trains by 2050 Making railway more efficient and more robust H 3 Switching train stations to a mobility and energy hub SNCF ENERGY STRATEGY + 20% ENERGY EFFICIENCY TARGETS 2015-2025 - 25% CO 2 EMISSIONS 3

AMBITION OF TECH4RAIL : TO ACCELERATE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION TO IMPLEMENT DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES SNCF INNOVATION ACCELERATOR TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE & CREATE VALUE TO DEVELOP A NEW CULTURE O INNOVATION : VISION AND AGILITY 4

OUR TECHNICAL ASSUMPTIONS AT THE CROSSROADS OF THE ENERGY AND RAILWAY SECTORS ELECTRICITY STORAGE becomes a (technical and financial) reality in the industrial world. Railways must integrate this technology which will be a strong asset for a robust and reliable electrical railway network. (GREEN) HYDROGEN will be one of the leading fuels of future (new) mobility patterns. H2 is the way to zero-emission trains. SMARTGRID will represent an opportunity to move the energy industry into a new era of reliability, availability, and efficiency. RAILWAY ENERGY STEERING will rely on a real-time management thanks to the digitalization of railway assets 5

ENERGY AS A PERFORMANCE DRIVER OF THE RAILWAY SYSTEM AND AT THE HEART OF NEW MOBILITY SYSTEMS 1 Removing diesel trains by 2050 Making railway more efficient and more robust H 3 Switching train stations to a mobility and energy hub 6

HYBRID TRAIN FIRST STEP ON THE WAY TO LOW CARBON EMISSIONS CONCEPT OF HYBRIDIZATION > Installation of on-board energy storage system > Recover and use the train braking energy to supply the train and auxiliary equipment > This energy can be used in combination with diesel or electric power 2021 1 st HYBRID TRAIN OBJECTIVES > Cut down fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 20% > Reduce operating costs by 30 to 50% : fuel, electricity and diesel engine maintenance 2022 DEPLOYMENT OF HYBRIDIZATION On Diesel rolling stock 7

HYDROGEN TRAINS NEXT STEP TO ZERO GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS Bring hydrogen to the rail sector > Hydrogen enhances sector coupling, crucial for the success of the energy transition 2023 1 st HYDROGEN TRAIN Electricity Storage Mobility 2025 DEMO OF HYDROGEN TRAIN FLEET > Hydrogen is a solution to decarbonize non electrified rail lines while keeping a performance level similar to that of diesel trains. > Rail applications can stimulate deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure by securing a large volume of hydrogen, thus helping bring costs down for other mobility applications. OBJECTIVES > Reach zero greenhouse gas emissions 2030 HYDROGEN TRAIN DEPLOYMENT 8

HYDROGEN TRAINS NEXT STEP FOR ZERO GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS SNCF is actively working on the hydrogen train > SNCF supports the joint Shift2Rail and FCHJU study Use of fuel cell hydrogen in railway > The study aims: > To analyze the business case of hydrogen and fuel cell usage in the rail environment, in both the passenger and freight segments > To propose a technology development roadmap including short term priority Research and Innovation Actions 2023 2025 2030 DEVELOPMENT PHASE 1 st HYDROGEN TRAIN DEMO OF HYDROGEN TRAIN FLEET HYDROGEN TRAIN DEPLOYMENT 9

HYDROGEN TRAINS Clear EU support needed to kick start hydrogen in the rail sector, as committed to in the Action Plan on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (November 2017 Clean Mobility Package) EU financial support needed to mitigate the risks linked to first demo projects and to speed up industrialization 10

ENERGY AS A PERFORMANCE DRIVER OF THE RAILWAY SYSTEM AND AT THE HEART OF NEW MOBILITY SYSTEMS 1 Removing diesel trains by 2050 Making railway more efficient and more robust H 3 Switching train stations to a mobility and energy hub 11

SARCELLES ST BRICE STATION & SUBSTATION PROJECT REINFORCING RELIABILITY AND SYNERGIES BETWEEN THE ENERGY AND RAILWAY SECTORS OBJECTIVES Improving energy efficiency and reliability of railway system by implementing a multifunction energy storage (Lithium batteries) instead of a genset Battery energy storage functions: Railway signaling backup (high priority) Station backup Peak-shaving Sarcelles St Brice station Technical area 12

PARIS MASSENA SUBSTATION PROJECT REINFORCING THE DC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM AND SYNERGIES BETWEEN THE ENERGY AND RAILWAY SECTORS WHAT IS AT STAKE: > DC power supply : irreversible > Energy loss : Between 8% to 25% of total energy MASSENA Substation inside PARIS OBJECTIVES Improving energy efficiency of railway system by recovering braking energy of trains and to feed it back into the grid Problematic: DC power supply : Irreversible, Few GwH/year/substation = 50 000 households for all DC substations 13

ENERGY AS A PERFORMANCE DRIVER OF THE RAILWAY SYSTEM AND AT THE HEART OF NEW MOBILITY SYSTEMS 1 Removing diesel trains by 2050 Making railway more efficient and more robust H 3 Switching train stations to a mobility and energy hub 14

SMART STATIONS AIX-EN-PROVENCE TGV STATION: PROOF OF CONCEPT OBJECTIVES: MAKING RAILWAY STATION AN ENERGETIC AND MOBILITY HUB Reach the energetic autonomy of the station, Propose the electric vehicle charging stations service. HOW? By COMBINING Technological blocks : > Smart charging stations, > Solar panels, > Energy Storage Systems. SNCF and Energy providers work together to optimize the usage of different assets in the microgrid with the goal to provide affordable, reliable energy with a low environmental impact. In the future: enable energy exchanges with the district around the station 15

16 Cooperation between RUs, IMs and the industry.

Future Improvements Noise & Energy Project objectives Identify and reduce operational costs in the railway system Identify energy benefits of all innovations of Shift2Rail and apply them to other segments, New methodology and process for rolling stock development. Open call 17

+ OUTLOOKS Energy eco labelling? 1 8 18

Shift2Rail has led to a successful cooperation between RUs, IMs and the industry. Some of the undertaken activities will not be completed by 2020. SNCF therefore actively supports the establishment of a Shift2Rail 2.0 in the next EU Research Framework Programme and would welcome being a strong partner in it. 19
