Director s Corner Welcome to the new issue of Crest & Wings! It will be Fall by the time you read this, so I hope you all had a very happy Summer. Given our excellent weather, we re spoiled here in Southern California with our ability to enjoy our cars year-round. Nevertheless, Summer typically brings more opportunities for us to show off our prides and joys, and this Summer was no exception. The big news for our Region this year was our role as host for the CLC s National Driving Tour, and I m pleased to say it went off without a hitch. Fifty people and a nice mix of older and newer Cadillacs from across the country participated in the seven day excursion along the central California coast. Fine weather and an awesome mix of activities made for a fun and relaxing time for all. Special thanks to our Tour Chairman, Rob Leonard, and his wife, Linda, for all their hard work and countless hours of preparation. Thanks also to members Don & Fay Feeney, Alan Clark, Gary Sisk, Robert Turner, Julian & Mary Cangelosi, and Omar Prioleau, whose volunteer spirit helped keep the tour on track and our guests happy. Last, because she s the best, my personal thanks to our own events coordinator, Betsy Davenport, who, despite last-minute challenges, still managed to arrange our group s accommodations from 200 miles away. That, my friends, is moxie! Looking ahead, our annual Fall car show will be November 4, at Martin Cadillac in West Los Angeles. And of course, our annual Winter show at Lakewood is already in the works for February 17, 2019. PAST EVENTS Dealership Show Martin Cadillac July 22, 2018 The theme of the day was HOT. Hot cars and hot weather; however, a good time was had by all despite the heat. We invited the Buick and Oldsmobile Clubs to join us for this show and it added an interesting change to our usual Cadillacs Only display. Special thanks go out to Douglas Cohen. Douglas met with Seth Waskow, General Manager of Marin Cadillac and convinced him not only to allow us to use the dealership for a show but to also provide our attendees with a free lunch plus all the bottled water they could drink. In addition, Douglas ensured that the lot was cleared early Sunday morning to accommodate our show cars. We had a total of 48 cars with 42 cars to be judged. Due to the mix of marques, only a Best of Show trophy was presented. The award was won by Frank and Denise Burns for their gorgeous 1961 Coupe de Ville.

The large old style Cadillac script will remind you of the days when you car was being serviced at a dealership many years ago. Many postwar Cadillac distributors, factory branches, and dealerships used these logo-type fender covers in their service departments. According to our sources, in general, fender covers were traditionally red in color prior to 1960 and blue thereafter. However, in some parts of the country, red was the only color available until recently. Black fender covers have become popular in recent years (late 1980 and 1990s).
