March 1, 2001 Foam 30a 1. DESCRIPTION A Preaction Blad der Tank Foam/Wa ter Sys tem is a stan dard preaction sys tem ca pa ble of dis charg ing a foam/wa ter so lu tion au to mat i cally through any sprin klers that op er ate. A Preaction Blad der Tank Foam/Wa ter Sys tem with a hy drau li cally ac tu ated Halar coated Vi king De luge Con cen trate Control Valve ( CCV ) con sists of a stan dard preaction sys tem us ing a Vi king De luge Valve com plete with full stan dard preaction trim, de tec tion and re leas ing de vices on the wa ter sup ply line, a con - cen trate con trol ler-proportioning de - vice with ap pro pri ately sized or i fice, a hy drau li cally ac tu ated Vi king Halar coated de luge CCV on foam con cen - trate line, a foam con cen trate bladder tank and trim and foam agent. 2. OPERATION Ac tu a tion of the non-interlock, sin gle or dou ble in ter lock preaction sys tem re - lease line (pneu matic, hy drau lic or elec - tric) re lieves the pres sure in the prim ing cham ber of both the Vi king de luge valve (C) and the Vi king Halar coated de - luge CCV (D). This al lows the clap per to open on both valves (C) and (D). The sys tem pip ing is filled with wa ter, ac ti - vat ing con nected alarms. The bladder tank (A) is al ready pres sur ized by the wa ter supply pip ing (11). Sys tem wa ter pres sure in the space be tween the flex i - ble blad der and the in side sur face of the steel tank, causes the blad der to col - lapse, forc ing the foam con cen trate out through the foam con cen trate dis - charge pip ing (14), Vi king Halar coated de luge CCV (D), and the me ter - ing or i fice of the con cen trate con trol ler (B), into the venturi (low pres sure) area of the con cen trate con trol ler (B). The foam con cen trate is pro por tioned (usu- ally 3% or 6%), with the main wa ter sup - ply, send ing foam so lu tion to the sprin - klers and foam/wa ter dis charge de vices down stream. 3. DISCHARGE DEVICES Stan dard spray sprin klers Hose reels and hand lines Other ap proved dis pens ing de - vices 4. GENERAL IN STRUC TIONS AND WARNINGS A. Re fer to the Gen eral Notes and Warn ings in the De sign sec tion of the Vi king Foam Data Book. B. Re fer to spe cific tech ni cal data sheets, ac cept able in stal la tion stan dards, codes and Au thor ity Hav ing Ju ris dic tion for ad di tional in stal la tion, op er a tion and main te - nance in struc tions. C. In spec tions - It is im per a tive that the sys tem be in spected and tested on a reg u lar basis. See In - spec tion and Main te nance. D. WARNING - Any sys tem main te - nance or test ing which in volves plac ing a con trol valve or de tec - tion sys tem out of ser vice may elim i nate the Fire Pro tec tion of that sys tem. Prior to pro ceed ing, no tify all Au thor ities Hav ing Ju ris - dic tion. Con sid er ation should be given to em ploy ment of a Fire Pa - trol in the af fected area. E. The valve, trim and as sem bly must be in stalled in an area not sub ject to freez ing tem per a tures or phys i - cal dam age. 5. DESIGN & INSTALLATION WARNING: Lo cate all por tions of the foam/wa ter sys tem sub ject to freez ing, in a heated area. A. Re fer to the Spe cial Notes on page 30c and the Gen eral Notes and Warn ings on page 50a-d in the De sign sec tion of the Vi king Foam Data Book. B. In stall the preaction valve (C) and trim in ac cor dance with the Vi king En gi neering and De sign Data Book. C. In stall the pro por tion ing de vice, con cen trate con trol ler with in te - gral or i fice (B), in riser pip ing. (See Note A and B, Page 30c) D. In stall foam so lu tion test valve (16) and sys tem iso la tion valve (17). E. In stall hy drau li cally ac tu ated Halar coated Vi king de luge CCV (D) and as so ci ated trim in clud ing a re mov able spool piece as in di - cated on Fig ure 30, Page 30b, and trim charts or tech ni cal data pages. F. In stall blad der tank (A) in ac cor - dance with the man u fac turer s in - struc tions with con nec tions as shown on Fig ure 30, Page 30b and herein de scribed. 1. Lo cate the tank as close as prac ti cal to the sys tem riser. (See Spe cial Note B on Page 30c). 2. Al low enough room around the tank to ser vice the blad der. 3. Al low ac cess to the tank for fill - ing from bar rels of foam con - cen trate. 4. In stall the pipe from the riser to the tank as in di cated on Fig - ure 30. The tank wa ter sup ply pip ing (11) from the riser which sup plies the blad der tank (A). The tank wa ter sup - ply pip ing con nec tion for a pre-action sys tem should be in stalled be low the pre-action valve as shown on Fig ure 30. This is to elim i nate the pos si - bil ity of al low ing com pressed air into the blad der tank which could dam age the blad der. This will also pre - vent the ac ci den tal drain ing of the blad der tank wa ter sup - ply pip ing and tank, when drain ing the sys tem riser. In - stall the pip ing from the tank (A) to the con cen trate con - trol ler (B) as straight as pos si - ble. 5. All valves and de vices should be lo cated for easy ac cess for op er a tion and main te nance. G. Pres sur ize Sys tem 1. Ver ify that wa ter supply valve (9) is closed, close tank wa ter sup ply con trol valve (10), then place the preaction valve (C) in ser vice as fol lows (See in stal la tion in struc tions on Vi king Tech ni cal Data Sheet). Open sys tem iso la - tion valve (17) if closed. 2. Set re lease and de tec tion sys - tem ac cord ing to in stal la tion in struc tions for type of preaction sys tem used. Pres - sur ize sys tem pip ing with air pres sure per in stal la tion in - struc tions for the type of 3.
