It is ideally suited t installatins in delivery and service fleets as well as public safety, mass transprtatin, utility, and ff-rad r cnstructin vehicles. Security features include unauthrized vehicle mvement and relcatin alerts, as well as a means f cnnecting ptinal auxiliary sensrs anywhere within the vehicle. Fr additinal installatin infrmatin please refer t the Installatin Best Practices dcument available thrugh the Resurce Center in yur Dealer Prtal. 1. Install Antenna The cmes with a cmbined GPS/GSM antenna mdule. It is t be installed in a lcatin where the GPS perfrmance will be ptimum. Antennas are available with r withut an integrated magnet which allw easy attachment t a metallic panel. Anther antenna ptin prvides a duble-sided adhesive patch fr attachment t any suitable surface. Kit Cntents GPS Beacn device with SIM Cmbined GPS/GSM antenna Duble-sided adhesive patch Wiring harness Munting bracket Tls and Supplies Required Wire cutters, wire strippers Vltmeter (multimeter) Sldering irn, slder Electrical tape Plastic cable ties Screw drivers, munting screws Wrenches, sckets Determine the best lcatin fr the GPS Antenna The antenna is light and weatherprf and may be installed either inside r utside the vehicle. The tp side f the antenna mdule shuld have a clear signal path t as much f the sky as pssible. There are tw antenna types supprted: ARC VLPA Puck Mbile Antenna Size: 3.2 inch (81mm) Diameter; 0.6 in (15mm) depth; Black plastic upper husing with peel-and-stick adhesive patch (with r withut magnetic insert in base). AU-3S-AMPS Size: 2.54 in (64.5mm) Diameter; 0.54 in (13.6mm) depth; Black plastic with silver magnetic metal base. If the installatin is nt required t be cvert, an ideal lcatin is underneath the frnt windshield glass. Fr cvert installatins, an ideal lcatin is under the dashbard, as high and clse t the frnt windshield as pssible (see diagrams).
Installatin Guide If installing in a car, the antenna can usually be munted under the rear windw r in the trunk, under the rear deck, as clse t the rear windw as pssible. Fr best perfrmance, the black plastic husing f the antenna shuld face the sky thrugh the area f least signal blckage: Signals will penetrate uphlstery, carpet, plastic dashbards, etc., but nt metal panels r brackets. Signals will penetrate windw glass but nt metallic tinted windws r painted edges f windws. Radi antenna r defrst wires embedded in glass may degrade signals. 2. Beacn Installatin Psitin Determine beacn installatin psitin but d nt fasten it in place until all wiring is cmplete. Determine the best lcatin fr the beacn a strng flat surface that can be drilled t accmmdate the munting bracket is ideal. Any spt where the beacn can be fastened in place with plastic cable ties is suitable. Under a seat is ften a suitable lcatin fr beacn installatin. Be sure it is nt clse t any heat surces r areas that experience misture r vibratin. The beacn is nt waterprf r weatherprf and shuld always be installed in the passenger cmpartment f the vehicle. Visibility f the indicatr LEDs will be useful fr testing and trubleshting. 2 f 5
Installatin Guide 3. Cnnect Pwer & Ignitin Sense The 6100 pwer harness has ne wire bundle cntaining 6 wires. The bundle cntains the 9-30V cnstant Pwer (red), Grund (black), and Ignitin Sense (yellw) wires. The input/utput (I/O) wires are as fllws: Input 1 (gray), Input 2 (purple) and Output 3 (Blue). Ntes: Cnnect the wiring harness t all the vehicle s cnnectin pints befre attaching the harness t the beacn. If wiring harness wires need t be extended, use the same gauge wire and slder the extensin wire n, then insulate with heat shrink tubing r electrical tape. Ensure that n wires are ruted near heat surces. Pwer Cnnectin Instructins Cnnect the black (grund) wire t battery negative r the vehicle chassis this wire MUST be cnnected first, befre the pwer r ignitin sense wires. Be sure the grunding screw is nt painted r cated with an insulating material. With the vehicle s ignitin turned ff, use a vltmeter t assist in finding a suitable, cnstant 9-30V pwer cnnectin pint directly t the vehicle s battery may be best. Ignitin Sense Cnnectin The ignitin sense cnnectin is mandatry. Find a surce f 9-30V that is switched n and ff with the ignitin key in the run psitin (accessry psitin is nt acceptable). This cnnectin shuld prduce 9-30V when the vehicle ignitin is ON and 0 Vlts when the vehicle ignitin is OFF. Cnnect the yellw (ignitin sense) wire t this pint. Vltage transitins must ccur instantly. Gradual r stepped transitins frm ne vltage t anther may nt be detected. Ensure that any wires in the wiring harness that are nt t be cnnected d nt cme in cntact with pwer, grund, r any ther vltage. Insulate them with electrical tape. 3 f 5

The user is respnsible fr ensuring the vltage supplied t the 6100 remains in this vltage range t include transient vltage spikes and lad dump vltages. Failure t cmply may damage the 6100. 4. Auxiliary Input and Output Auxiliary Input The auxiliary input can be used t detect and reprt the pening and/r clsing f a circuit. An auxiliary input circuit is cnsidered t be clsed when either the Aux 1 (gray wire) r Aux 2 (purple wire) is cnnected t a vehicle grund surce (als knwn as negative trigger ). The auxiliary input circuit is cnsidered t be pen when either Aux 1 r Aux 2 is cnnected t an pen circuit r a 9-30V pwer surce. When using auxiliary inputs t measure the state f vehicle circuits, it is recmmended that yu use a relay t cntrl the input signal t the device. Output Output 3 can be used t remtely cntrl vehicle functins such as dr lck/unlck and starter disable/enable. There is ne utput available. This utput can be cnfigured via the web prtal t interactively tggle an external circuit between pen and clsed states, r t pulse the circuit t the clsed state fr either ne r five secnds, then autmatically pen the circuit. IMPORTANT NOTE: The 6100 beacn perfrms a pwer reset cycle when vehicle ignitin is detected. During this reset cycle, the utput state f the beacn will change. This means that the utput setting may be changed upn ignitin. Fr installatins requiring supprt fr starter mtr disable, it is recmmended that yu install a latching relay, cmbined with an utput pulse, in rder t disable a starter mtr. 4 f 5
Installatin Guide T clse an external circuit, the 6100 utput acts as a grund surce (r what is referred t as a current sink) t the external circuit (als knwn as negative trigger ). T pen an external circuit, the 6100 utput will be pen. Since the 6100 utput can draw a maximum current f 1.5A, it is recmmended that yu use the utput t cntrl a relay and use the relay t manage the external circuit. 5. Cnnect and Munt Beacn Cnnect the tw antenna cables t the beacn using the crrespnding caxial cnnectrs. Attach the wiring harness t the beacn and ensure that the cnnectr is firmly pressed int the receptacle. Use the munting plate prvided t mark and drill screw hles fr installatin. The munting hles are designed fr a number 10 screw. Break the munting plate int tw parts and then affix t the 6100. The tw pieces will slide easily int the grves prvided n the beacn. If a suitable panel fr affixing the supplied munting plate is nt available, fastening the beacn t a bracket r wire bundle with plastic cable ties is als adequate. Secure any lse r extra lengths f wire. 6. Test Fr the first test, the vehicle shuld be utdrs in an pen area where GPS signals can be readily received. Watch the indicatr LED n the beacn fr the first few minutes after all pwer and antennas have been cnnected. It indicates the fllwing status: LED PWR GPS USR1 USR2 Functins Steady: Unit is pwered n. Off: Unit is pwered ff. Steady: Cnnected t GSM/GPRS netwrk. Flashing: Attempting t cnnect t GSM/GPRS netwrk. Off: Cannt cnnect t GSM/GPRS netwrk. Steady: GPS acquired. Off: Attempting t acquire GPS signal. NOTE It may take 15 t 20 minutes, usually much less, fr the wireless netwrk and the GPS receiver t synchrnize the first time the beacn is pwered up. Perfrm an end-t-end system test by lcating the beacn via the user prtal. 5 f 5
