Technical Guidance HYUNDAI SAS (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR) Calibration 1. Function Introduction: The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) is a significant element of the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) system that controls the steering wheel position angle and rate of turn. The SAS is located in a sensor cluster in the steering column. The cluster always has more than one steering position sensor for backup and to secure data so that the ESC module receives multiple signals to confirm the steering wheel position. These signals are often out of phase with each other. 2. When to perform Steering Angle Sensor Calibration: (1) The ESP ECU has been replaced. (2) The EPS ECU has been replaced. (3) The steering angle sensor has been replaced. (4) The steering angle sensor has been removed from its location to perform any repair. 3. Prerequisites (before calibration): (1) Ignition switch key ON, stop the vehicle and engine not running. (2) Straighten the front tire and arrange the steering wheel at the center position. (3) The battery voltage is normal, low voltage may cause abnormal function. (4) The vehicle is equipped with ESP modules only, and the calibration function is performed from the ESP module. (5) The vehicle is equipped with ESP and EPS (electromechanical power steering) module, and the calibration function is performed from the EPS module.
