DKG/DVG Fluid Dry Coolers

SPECIFICATION Introduction Due to the many combinations of temperatures, flow rates and working fluids which may be encountered, it is not possible to catalogue capacities and correction factors to satisfy all conditions. For this reason only summary capacity figures are given in this brochure. For complete capacity information please refer to our Selection Software Program for Dry Coolers. This is available on request and enables selections to be made based on different, userdefined conditions. Alternatively, please contact your supplier. General A dry cooler is a forced convection air-cooled fluid cooler. Air is forced over a finned coil which contains the working fluid such as water or water and glycol mix. In determining the working fluid, consideration must be given to the lowest ambient that could possibly be experienced by the unit, in order to minimise the risk of freezing the working fluid. This brochure provides information on the DKG and DVG ranges of dry coolers. The DKG range of flat-bed dry coolers is modular in design, having 1 to 5 fans arranged in a single bank, and 4 to 12 fans arranged in a double bank. The DVG V-bank range is also modular, having either 900mm fans (arranged in double rows giving 4 to 12 fans) or 1000mm fans (arranged in a single row giving 2 to 5 fans). In addition, where space is severely limited, DVG models are available with taller coils. This taller range, known as the DVH, provides up to 25% greater capacity for the same footprint. For selections on the DVH range please contact your supplier. The two-speed motors can be used either for night-time turn down or for control of temperature. Night-time turn down can offer an acceptable day-time noise level with a considerably lower night-time sound emittance. Also substantial power savings can be achieved during periods of low ambient temperatures. All models have many circuiting options which can be selected to optimise duty with required fluid pressure drops and flow rates. All models can be supplied with stub, BSP male or flange type connections. BSP connections are available on headers with a diameter less than 2". Flange or stub type connections are normally recommended on headers with a diameter greater than 2". Casework All casework is manufactured from corrosion-resistant pregalvanised steel. Painted components feature hard wearing, oven cured, UV-tolerant paint, applied in our electrostatic paint plant, which protects surfaces and cut edges. Each fan chamber is separated by internal baffle plates to prevent windmilling of off-cycle fans. On the DKG an optional coil cleaning port in the form of a hinged access panel can be provided in each fan section and optional leg extensions are available to enhance fresh air supply in difficult locations. Coils Standard coils (Cu/Al) are manufactured from copper tubes which are mechanically expanded into fully-collared holes in aluminium fins. This ensures an effective and permanent bond between the tube and the fin, maximising heat transfer characteristics. Alternative fin materials are available to give added protection in saline or polluted atmospheres:- Cu/Av Copper tube/vinyl coated aluminium fins Cu/Cu Copper tubes/copper fins Cu/Et Copper tubes/copper fins electrotinned after assembly Motors and Speed Control DKG motors (6, 8, 12 and 16 pole) are foot-mounted onto rigid diagonal cross beams and, as standard, individually wired to a common terminal box on the outside of the unit (fluid connection end). Optionally, motors may be individually wired to 6 pole, 3 phase isolators. DVG motors are three phase external rotor type, available in 6, 8 and 12 pole speeds. All motors feature internal protection, making them suitable for variable speed control. This can be wired via the standard terminal box at the end of the unit. Two speed operation is achieved by remote switching of motors between Delta and Star connections. For this purpose, Searle offers a two-speed contactor box consisting of a mains isolator, motor circuit breakers and mechanically and electrically interlocked changeover contactors for each fan. For customer s own two-speed systems the use of an alternative terminal box is required - this should be specified at the time of ordering. (The DVG also requires an alternative wiring harness). The two-speed control can be used in conjunction with the Searle range of microprocessor fan control systems which gives very close control of temperature. If a Searle control is not used, it is essential that the system selected has both mechanical and electrical interlocks to give maximum protection to the motors. Fluid temperature controls are available which range from a simple contactor box to a sophisticated microprocessor based sequential system, operating from temperature sensors. Please refer to Searle s Controls brochure or contact your supplier for further assistance. 3ph fan speed control is also available as an option. Noise levels Data for sound pressure levels has been derived from measurements taken during independent testing carried out in free field conditions according to EN13487. Published figures are for distances measured horizontally at fan deck height from the longest side of a horizontal unit, when mounted on a reflective plan. For approximate noise levels in the direction of air flows add 6dB(A).
