Press Release Oerlikon Graziano at EVS24 (Stavanger - Norway) 13 16 May 2009 Oerlikon Graziano and its success in the zero emission market Stavanger (Norway), May 13, 2009 Oerlikon Graziano, part of the Oerlikon Drive Systems Segment, will attend the next EVS24 exhibition in Norway, as global player in power transmission field. Oerlikon Graziano started its long experience in the zero emission transmissions field since 1994 making a significant move towards this new area of the mobility market supplying the major electric vehicle manufacturers with electric drive axles. Despite its modest beginnings, the future of the electric car is bright. If electricity can be produced without CO 2 as is the case in Norway or worldwide the emissions that would impact climate change would be zero. Experience, know-how, high tech: green technology Our trust to place our know-how and technologies at the customer s disposal on this market too is starting to deliver; we are currently working on many projects focused on electric heavy and light utility vehicles, electric light commercial vehicles and electric city cars for the major vehicle manufacturers. Oerlikon Graziano approached the electric drive technologies in 1994, at the start of its relationship with Club Car, an Ingersoll Rand Company. Oerlikon Graziano had the opportunity to build its first electric axle for the golf cart market. A long term business relationship was started, and it continued to develop and grow over the next decade. This relationship has been tested over the years due to the know-how and very cost competitive nature of the golf market, always producing a workable solution. Oerlikon Graziano has consistently engineered out unnecessary costs from the manufacturing process, while greatly expanding the volumes produced as well as maintaining a consistently high quality level.
Page 2 Over the years, the Oerlikon Graziano Team has been the recipient of numerous awards and in 2007 commenting the best supplier awarding for the second time in two years, Phil Gaffney VP Sourcing (Club Car, Inc) said: - an unprecedented two years in succession that Oerlikon Graziano has earned this unique distinction. This recognition salutes you for the attention to details in providing consistent product quality to Club Car for the electric vehicle axles. This long time experience reinforced the specific Oerlikon Graziano know-how, and in recent years, the company has been able to develop a new generation of electric gearboxes for electric city cars; we started our relationship with Th!nk (Norway) and for them we have designed, developed and put in production the electric gearbox with a 2 stage reduction, given to Th!nk all the support in the assembly phase of the electric car and continued our support during and after the launch of the car with our Customer Assistance Service. The Th!nk City car is shown at this event. This vehicle is currently the only one in its class that was designed and developed from the outset to be a mass-produced, battery-driven electric car. With a vehicle body that withstands industry crash tests, a radius per change cycle of up to 180 kilometres, a maximum speed of more than 110 Km/h and a special transmission from Oerlikon Graziano. The power transmission system must not waste energy and has to run as quietly as possible. This component is a completely new development. We opted for Oerlikon Graziano because of its superior technical expertise as a development partner and system supplier, said Richard Canny, CEO of Th!nk. Thanks to its experience and know-how, Oerlikon Graziano has started almost one year ago a collaboration with Pininfarina, the worldwide famous car designer and coachbuilder in Turin (Itay), developing the transmission for their new Bluecar, an unique and space age electric eco-friendly cool vehicle. Most recently Oerlikon Graziano has also started to work with the well known player in the electric drivetrain market, Zytek Automotive LTD, for the development of a transmission to be coupled with their innovative 70 kw e-motor to be used in sport electric or light commercial ELCV vehicles. Moreover at the beginning of April 2009 Oerlikon Graziano started a discussion with Smith Electric in UK for a potential cooperation on their new Ford connect base electric LCV.
