EDF Group, a pioneer in carbon-free hydrogen (1/2) Our Strategy EDF sees electrolytic hydrogen as vital energy carrier to make certain sectors of the economy carbon-free when it is produced from electricity that is itself carbon-free, as it is the case thanks to EDF s low carbon mix, which combines nuclear and renewable energy. EDF enters the carbon-free hydrogen market, with the medium-term goal of developing competitive carbon-free hydrogen solutions ( ) mainly aimed at industrial clients and heavy-duty mobility sector. EDF will be able to offer its customers new services to help them reduce their carbon footprint and boost their competitiveness. FOCUS EDF Carbon-Free H 2 Mobility Industry Gas Power 3
EDF Group, a pioneer in carbon-free hydrogen (2/2) Our Strengths EDF R&D with 9 sites around the world (England, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, China, Singapore, USA) EIFER, which owns a strong expertise and reputation in the field of H 2 (performance control, optimization of systems, market studies, scientific support). o o o Created in 2002, by EDF and the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology, a Franco-German institute dedicated to energy and environment, EIFER leads research projects on hydrogen in France and Germany, in collaboration with our research center in Italy and with the CRIEPI Institute in Japan. EIFER s long-term expertise in fuel cells and hydrogen is bearing fruits, as half of the research activities in this field are funded by European and national public fund. Participations in two electrolysers manufacturers : McPhy (alkaline technology, production, storage and distribution). Sunfire (high-temperature technology, fuel cells, power-to-liquid, synfuel). Covalion (non nuclear activities of Framatome) can provide engineering solutions (H 2 fueling stations design, EPC, system integration). 4
Zoom on current EDF projects in Germany Hy.DE Call for tenders from the Land of Schleswig-Holstein to replace a fleet of diesel trains with 52 zero-emission trains (battery or hydrogen). Alstom is the only participant to propose an hydrogen train solution. Centralized production of carbon-free hydrogen from wind energy source and application in rail mobility.
