OF CONTROL ELECTRONIC ACTIVE CONTROL Sensors located in all pilot lines send signals to the computer in respect of manipulator strokes. These signals provide the engine with the necessary input to determine the rpm required to ensure the correct oil flow to carry out the required function. As a result, the machine offers extremely smooth and precise controls, with excellent stability and steady speed during simultaneous operations. AUTOMATIC DOWNSHIFT The double displacement axial piston travel motors feature two travel speeds, which can be selected by the operator: High speed for fast transfer movement Low speed, when a high traction force is required If ground conditions demand a higher traction force when "High Speed" is selected, the travel motors shift automatically to maximum displacement, thus reducing speed and increasing traction force.
385 HIGH RELIABILITY AND DURABILITY NEW ISUZU ENGINE HIGH PERFORMANCE LOW FUEL CONSUMPTION This engine belongs to the new generation family of ISUZU diesel engines which conform to the European standard 97/68/EC (Tier 3A). Six cylinders, 7.8 litres, direct injection, turbocharged with intercooler. Combined with the electronic E.S.S.C. (Engine Speed Sensing Control) allowing full exploitation of the installed hydraulic power, the new engine is designed for outstanding productivity. It also features, as standard, a -15 C outside temperature start. 8
ARM REINFORCEMENT Standard booms are heavy duty type to totally and continuously exploit the exceptional lifting capacity and the mighty breakout force. A standard antiwear plate is welded at the top of the arms to enhance the machine capability to operate in the most severe applications. BUCKET LINKAGE The lever of the bucket linkage is made in one piece to improve reliability and to reduce down time when changing buckets. It incorporates a safety lifting hook with load handling option, thus increasing machine versatility and safety. SAFETY VALVES Safety anti-drop valves (supplied as standard on the triple articulation version) are available (optional) for lifting and dipperstick cylinders, to comply with European safety regulations when the machine is used in load handling applications. 9
E UNDERCARRIAGE The EL version can be supplied with a monobloc or triple articulation boom. The long undercarriage ensures outstanding front stability. Machine transportation is facilitated by its under 3.0 metre width, with 60m shoes. 299m 405m ROLLERS AND CHAINS Standard sealed and lubricated rollers and track chains are Heavy Duty type, to grant an outstanding strength and durability in the toughest applications. HEAVY DUTY UPPERSTRUCTURE Following stringent bench tests and the toughest possible field tests, the upper-structure has been completely re-designed and strengthened, and is able to handle any kind of job without problems. 10

385 CAB An outstanding innovative and roomy working environment built with the most advanced car type technology (pressed steel plates) with reinforced pillars to provide added strength. High Space cab and perfect visibility in all directions thanks to the wide glass surface and transparent cab roof. Extremely low noise level and effective reduction of vibrations are granted by elasto-viscous dampers which connect the cab to the upperstructure. All controls are within hand reach and are ergonomically positioned: more like a "living room" than a cab, providing maximum operator comfort. WORK IN CO RIGHT MANIPULATOR The right manipulator, with its perfect sensitivity, allows the operator smooth control of the boom and bucket movements. Continuous Power Boost actuation button is positioned on the top. LEFT MANIPULATOR Again with exceptional sensitivity, the operator can manoeuvre the left manipulator which controls the dipperstick movement and the swinging of the upperstructure. The horn is positioned on the top. PEDALS With the best layout in the industry, the operator can use any pedal with no risk of interference. He can also enjoy two large footrest supports. In addition to the control of forward-reverse for left and right tracks, there are two other independent pedals to operate the positioning cylinder (in the triple articulation version) and special applications tools. 12

SEAT The ergonomic seat, heated and mechanically or air (optional) suspended, can be adjusted to all positions, either independently or together with the control consoles to provide maximum operator comfort and stability. COURTESY BOX Positioned behind the operator seat, the courtesy box provides a large area for personal objects. It includes a specific compartment to store service/operator manuals and documents, as well as a net to hold small objects and papers. AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING Automatic air conditioning is offered as standard - the operator need only set the required temperature. The system will maintain the temperature and keep windows clear in any climate conditions. DAMPERS The cab is connected to the upperstructure with elasto-viscous (rubber and silicone oil) dampers to effectively reduce vibrations and noise. 385 EASY MAINTENANCE The practical and accessible layout of all components allows easy and time-saving maintenance procedures. Some components, such as the diesel-water separator, are conveniently remotely positioned, as is the engine oil filter, which is also mounted in a vertical position to avoid oil spillage. AIR FILTER The most efficient air filtering system, incorporating a cyclone pre-filter, a twin cartridge filter and a dust ejector, provides maximum engine efficiency and easy maintenance. RADIATORS All radiators are made with aluminium and provide extremely efficient heat exchange together with a long, rust-free life. To reduce pollution, a cooling fuel radiator has been added. CENTRALISED GREASING Boom maintenance is effectively improved thanks to a centralised greasing system, which allows all wear points to be easily greased from ground level. The greasing interval has been raised to 500 hours. ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP The electric fuel pump, conveniently located under the upperstructure steps, is supplied as standard equipment to refill the machine quickly and on any job site. FUSES Fuse and relay are properly protected by a sealed box in the roomy left hand side of the machine. Easy to reach, easy to check, to dramatically reduce maintenance and service down time. 14
