Disconnect the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) - G6- electrical harness connector -arrow-. Connect a Hand held remote control (jumper) to terminal -1- of the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) - G6- and to vehicle battery (+). Connect a jumper cable from a Electrical connector test lead set to terminal -4- of the Transfer Fuel Pump (FP) - G6- and to vehicle Ground (GND). Remove fuel filler cap from fuel filler tube. Remove the engine cover -arrows-. with respect to the correctness WARNING of information in this document. Copyright by AUDI AG. The fuel system is under pressure! Before opening system, place rags around the connection area. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection. Disconnect the fuel return line -arrow-. 1. Fuel Supply System, Servicing 127

Connect a Fuel pressure test set (high pressure) to the disconnected fuel return line and hold it in the measuring container -arrow-. Press the switch on the Hand held remote control (jumper) and slowly close the shut-off valve of the fuel pressure gauge. Specified value: 4 Bar positive pressure. With the shut-off valve of the fuel pressure gauge in the same position. Empty measuring container. Press the switch on the Hand held remote control (jumper) and operate the fuel pump for 15 seconds. Compare quantity of fuel delivered with minimum delivery rate in the diagram (cm 3 /15s). Note Voltage at the fuel pump with engine stopped and fuel pump running is approx. 2 volts less than battery voltage. If minimum delivery quantity is not obtained, the following malfunctions may be present: Fuel lines pinched. Fuel filter plugged. Fuel pump faulty. If necessary, repair any pinched or plugged lines. Replace the fuel filter. Refer to Fuel Supply System Repair Manual. Replace the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Supply System Repair Manual. Assembly is performed in reverse order of removal. Final procedures After repair work, the following work steps must be performed in the mentioned sequence: 1 - Check the DTC memory. page 6. 2 - If necessary, erase the DTC memory. page 8. 3 - If the DTC memory was erased, generate readiness code. page 21. The fuel filter OK. The battery voltage at least 12.5 V. All electrical consumers switched off (radiator fan must NOT run during test). A/C switched off. The fuel tank at least 1 /4 filled. Disconnect the Fuel Pressure Sensor - G247- electrical harness connector -1-. Switch the ignition on. Using a Multimeter, check the Fuel Pressure Sensor - G247- electrical harness connector terminals for voltage. Fuel Pressure Sensor - G247- electrical Specified value harness connector terminals 1 to Battery positive (+) Battery positive (+) 2 to Ground (GND) Battery positive (+) 3 to Ground (GND) about 5 V Switch the ignition off. If the specified value was obtained: Replace the Fuel Pressure Sensor - G247-. Refer to Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual If the specified value was not obtained: Checking wiring connections If the manufacturers test box is being used. Perform the following step. Install the test box. Refer to Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual If the manufacturers test box is not being used. Perform the following step. Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623-. Using a Multimeter, check the Fuel Pressure Sensor - G247- electrical harness connector terminals to the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- electrical harness connector T60 terminals for resistance. Fuel Pressure Sensor - G247- electrical harness connector terminals Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- electrical harness connector T60 terminals or test box socket 1 14 2 25 3 26 Specified value: 1.5 Ω Max. If the specification is not obtained: Check the wiring for an open circuit, a short circuit to each other, Battery (+), and Ground (GND). Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals. If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection. If no malfunction is detected in the wiring: Erase the DTC memory. Refer to page 8. Perform a road test to verify repair. If the DTC does not return: Repair complete, Generate readiness code. Refer to page 21. End diagnosis. If the DTC does return and no malfunction is detected in the wiring and the voltage supply was not OK: Replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623-. Using a multimeter, check the Fuel Metering Valve - N290- electrical harness connector terminals to the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- electrical harness connector T60 terminals for resistance. Fuel Metering Valve - N290- electrical harness connector terminal 2 19 Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- electrical harness connector T60 terminal or test box socket Specified value: 1.5 Ω Max. If the specification was not obtained: Check the wiring for an open circuit, a short circuit to each other, Battery (+), and Ground (GND). Check the electrical harness connector for damage, corrosion, loose or broken terminals. If necessary, repair the faulty wiring connection. End of diagnosis 2.12 Fuel Injectors, Checking The following test procedure is used to diagnose Fuel Injectors - N30, N31, N32, N33-. Special tools and workshop equipment required Multimeter. Diode test lamp (12V). Wiring diagram. Test requirements The Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- fuses OK. The Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor - G28- OK. Battery voltage at least 12.5 volts. 2. All electrical consumers such as, lights and rear window defroster, switched off. Vehicles with automatic transmission, shift selector lever into position P or N. A/C switched off. Ground (GND) connections between engine/transmission/ chassis OK. Ignition switched off. Observe safety precautions. Observe rules for cleanliness. Test procedure Perform a preliminary check to verify the customers complaint. Refer to page 20. Start diagnosis Remove engine cover -arrows-. Disconnect the Fuel Injector electrical harness connectors. Checking internal resistance Using a multimeter, check the Fuel Injector electrical terminals 1 to 2 for resistance. Specified value: 12.0 to 20.0 Ω (at approx. 20 C) If the specified value was not obtained: Replace the faulty Fuel Injector. Refer to Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual. If the specified value was obtained: Checking activation 188 Rep. Gr.24 - Multiport Fuel Injection

Connect a diode test lamp (12V) to the electrical harness connector terminals 1 and 2 of the Fuel Injector to be tested. Operate the starter and test the activation of the Fuel Injector. LED should flicker. Switch the ignition off. If LED does not flicker: Checking wiring If the manufacturers test box is being used. Perform the following step. Install the test box. Refer to Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual If the manufacturers test box is not being used. Perform the following step. Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623-. Refer to 2. Using a multimeter, check the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) - G39- electrical harness connector terminals 1 to 5 for voltage. Specified value: 0.400 to 0.500 Volts Switch the ignition off. If the specified value was obtained: Replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) - G39-. Refer to Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual. If the specified value was not obtained: Checking wiring If the manufacturers test box is being used. Perform the following step. Install the test box. Refer to Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual If the manufacturers test box is not being used. Perform the following step. Remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623-. Refer to 192 Rep. Using a Multimeter, check the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) - G39- electrical harness connector terminals to the Engine Control Module (ECM) - J623- electrical harness connector T94 terminals for resistance. Note Always follow the manufacturers directions for the proper installation and operation of the Smoke tester being used. If a leak is detected: Check the fuel filler cap seal for damage and for proper installation. Replace if necessary. Check the seals under the locking flanges and the union nuts are properly tightened on the fuel tank. Check all hose connections of the fuel supply system and replace or repair any leaking lines. Check all hose connections of the EVAP system and replace or repair any leaking lines. Repair or replace any damaged component. If no leaks are found in the EVAP and Fuel Supply System: Erase the DTC memory if a DTC was set. Refer to page 8. Perform a road test to verify repair.
