In August 3 prices fell by 0.2% in both zones. In September 2011 compared with September 2010, industrial producer prices gained 5.8% in the euro area and 6.9% in the EU27. These figures come from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Monthly comparison In September 2011, compared with the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 0.1% in both the euro area and the EU27. Prices in the energy sector rose by 1.0% and 1.3% respectively. Durable consumer goods gained 0.4% in the euro area and 0.3% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.1% and 0.2% respectively. Capital goods remained stable in the euro area and rose by 0.1% in the EU27. Intermediate goods remained stable in both zones. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in the total index were recorded in Hungary (+1.7%), Cyprus (+1.1%), Lithuania and the United Kingdom (both +1.0%), and the lowest in Ireland and Malta (both +0.1%). Decreases were observed in Sweden (-0.8%), Finland (-0.2%) and Latvia (-0.1%), while prices remained stable in Slovenia. Annual comparison In September 2011 compared with September 2010, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 3.6% in the euro area and by 3.9% in the EU27. Prices in the energy sector gained 12.2% and 14.3% respectively. Intermediate goods rose by 5.0% in the euro area and by 5.3% in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods increased by 3.5% and 4.1% respectively. Durable consumer goods gained 2.5% in the euro area and 2.4% in the EU27. Capital goods rose by 1.5% and 1.6% respectively. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest increases in the total index were observed in the United Kingdom (+13.2%), Lithuania (+12.2%) and Latvia (+9.3%), and the smallest in Malta (+0.9%) and Slovakia (+2.6%). The only decrease was recorded in Sweden (-0.3%). 1. The index of producer prices shows (in the national currency of the country concerned) changes in the ex-works sale prices of all products sold on the domestic markets of the various countries, excluding imports. Euro area and EU indices refer to overall weighted price changes. The figures are not adjusted.
