AMA Charter Club #152 Celebrating 65 years www.valleyflyers.com August Upcoming Events Saturday August 15th Fun Fly and Swap Meet Saturday September 5th All Electric FunFly Sunday September20th Fun Fly BBQ We would like your feedback. If you have ideas for improving the newsletter, or would like to submit articles/ideas, contact: emayer@pacbell.net. Ted Mayer, Newsletter editor Photos courtesy Ken Simmons

I m happy to report that the fun fly swap meet was a big success. This long anticipated event is now behind us. Those who participated had Barbara Brace and family have relocated to Oregon. Her friend, Sharon Riberdy (slriberdy@ msn.com) will fill her position as Membership Director. Barbara said goodbye at the a great time and flew some beautiful scale models. It was a great turnout. Thanks to Adam Gelbart for another successful scale event and thanks to all the volunteers. I also want to thank the Parks and Recreation Department for new paint job in the rest rooms. To all Valley Flyer Members general meeting at the field on July 28th and wished everyone the best and was grateful for the support she and her family received during her tenure. Barbara, thank you and your 2 Another event scheduled for this month is the Fun Fly and Swap Meet on August.15th Contest Director Scott Ramos Happy Flying Benny Elkouby President family for your services to the club! You all were greatly appreciated! Sincerely, the Valley Flyers membership To all my Friends/ Family, Thank you for such Heart Warming speeches. You almost had me tear up. I told you all you can t rid of me yet. I loved seeing everyone. If Ted or Winston can post a nice saying to all the Members of how they will be missed greatly! Barbara Brace, former Membership Director San Fernando Valley R/C Flyers, CA.

Well I would like to wish Rusty, Barbara, Shawn, and Kaycee, well on their Oregon adventure. They left Thursday July 23rd, 2015. I will be taking over Hospitality, Safety Director, and Training, along with VP duties. I will surely miss all the help and contributions they have provided to the club the last couple of years. Rusty my fling buddy, I miss you already. One request: People that get a new club membership and are requesting flight training I need to be emailed in advance so I can have a training plane ready in advance. In relation to safety, Quadcopters need to flown in the Heli area and flown in the field area, I m observing FPV flight without a spotter, some one needs to be in line of sight when these are flown. That is a FAA rule. Too many times I ll ask where is your quad, and I get a reply of I don t know. Remember safety first. Height limit is 400 ft, yielding for scale aircraft at all times. The height limit is for all aircraft. BIG CAUTION: Landings have priority over take offs!! If you are waiting to take off, hold your position off the runway until called landings are completed. Just by calling Taking Off after a landing has been called, is not an excuse to go head. The consequence is the landing pilot has to take his eye off of his plane. It ruins concentration when bringing your plane in for a safe landing. 3 Please use common sense. We don t have a control tower to instruct you that you re clear for take off. You could be liable if you cause a landing that damages the incoming plane. Some of these planes are expensive!! D.B.D. Don t Be Dumb. HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS We have been getting complaints about planes exceeding designated height limits of 400 feet. Jets going vertical easily exceed 400feet. In addition 3D airplanes doing maneuvers also exceed these height restrictions. This needs to stop! If this continues the airport has the jurisdiction to close the field down. Lets all be more careful! Thanks Mike Stoner Vice President Special thanks to Jenaro Balanezo for generously donating six gallons of Powermaster fuel, to the Club. The gift will be used in our regular events that are coming up this year. These would be our Try-N-Fly, and our training flights etc., Thanks Jenaro! Valley Flyers Board of Directors

6 EZ BALANCER AND EZ BALANCER LITE I just added the standard size EZ Balancer to my shop after trying to balance large 72 biplanes on the smaller version. I reported on the Lite version sometime back. It s worth the expense if you build large aircraft well over 15 pounds, in my opinion. I ve tried to balance a large Aeromaster for 3 years (off and on) and haven t been successful with either the finger method with two people or the Balancer Lite. So I m adding the larger system to be able to fly the aircraft with reasonable success! EZ BALANCER retails for $230 plus S&H EZ BALANCER LITE retails for $85 plus S & H Logon to the EZ Balancer site www.ezbalancer.com/index.html for more details on this tool or visit Frank Tiano Enterprises at www.franktiano.com for ordering. Attendees: Benny Elkouby, Bob Smith, Mike Stoner, Tony di Leo, Ted Mayer, Mark Selkirk, Barbara Brace, Winston Brown, Rusty Cook, Shawn Keermann, Adam Gelbart, Chuck Thompson, Wayne Longo, Athena Aguila and Sharon Riberdy Meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. The Valley Flyer Fun Fly & Swap Meet to be held on July 11, 2015 will be free for Valley Flyer members. Benny Elkouby announced that there is a new look at the helicopter field. There is a new fence, the tables have been upgraded. There will be more improvements made in the future including a double fence by the hiking path so hikers don t end up on the field. There will be another attempt to get the field in Glendale, Sunday July 26, 2015. It is imperative that we get more people than just the four that were there on the first attempt and the seven that were there on the second attempt. Let s hope there is a better turnout this time. A new weed wacker will be purchased to help with the weeds. A motion was made and passed. Flyers will be given to hobby shops for help to work on the field. It has been suggested that the year-end party be at the Marakesh restaurant. He will get more information on cost Board Meeting Minutes July 7, 2015 to see if it will be reasonable. There will be a 3D event on October 11th. Bob Smith reported Deposits of $11,069.48 Balance at beginning of the month, $1,797.77 from Pay Pal with a total of $11,249.25 Total at the end of the month. At the August member meeting Mort Rosenthal will be the featured speaker on his Modified C-2 Balancer. To encourage an increase in new members attending these meeting, free pizza will be served to the first 30 attendees. Plastic chairs need to be donated for the field, there will be an e-blast sent to all members. Winston Brown wanted to know if the VF Free Fly was to be free for only members and whether general fee would be $15.00 including lunch.. It was stated that the registration fee would be $20.00 for nonmembers and anyone wanting food would make a donation of $5.00 to the club. He will send out an e-blast letting members know that there will be a discount for the AMA fees of $113.00 for two years if paid early. Adam Gelbart will be unable to be the Contest Director at the August 1, 2015 All Scale Event and will need someone to take his place. Mark Selkirk wanted to thank the board for the fencing in 8 the helicopter area. It is doing a great job. Tony di Leo wanted to know if we could get a T-28 trainer for use at the field. Barbara Brace reported that we presently have 350 members. There seemed to be a difference if figures that Bob Smith had. She sent a list to AMA to get all member AMA numbers but would like an e- blast to go out getting her everyone s AMA numbers that have not provided them. She got a list from the AMA but does not think it is what she requested. Mike Stoner brought up the smoke issue for the LA Jets event to be held on July 18, 2015. There is to be no smoke at all. The safety issues with LAX need to be tightened. Glendale field will be available to members only. It is to be set up for airplanes only. Later on helicopters and lastly cars. It has already been planned so it just needs to get started. The suggested names for the new field in Glendale are either The Willie Gardner Field or Gardner Field. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
