III. T PSL-10 MAINTENANCE his chapter contains maintenance information for the Ricon PSL-10. The information consists of a maintenance schedule, component descriptions, electrical diagrams, fuse locations, and a diagnostic guide. This chapter is intended to supplement the related sections of the vehicle manufacturer Owner or Service Manuals. WARNING THIS RICON PRODUCT IS HIGHLY SPECIALIZED. AUTHORIZED RICON SERVICE TECH- NICIANS MUST PERFORM MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS, USING RICON REPLACEMENT PARTS. MODIFYING OR FAILING TO PROPERLY MAINTAIN THIS PRODUCT MAY RE- SULT IN UNSAFE OPERATING CONDITIONS AND MAY VOID THE WARRANTY. A. MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Routine maintenance of the Ricon PSL-10 will provide optimum performance and reduce the need for repairs. An authorized lift operator (trained attendant) must perform the service points listed in Table 3-1, "DAILY SAFETY CHECK" on an ongoing basis. During the Ricon warranty period an authorized Ricon service technician must perform the service points listed in Table 3-2, "MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE". It is recommended that an authorized Ricon service technician continue maintenance when the warranty expires. Under extreme service (approximately 20 daily cycles or more) it is recommended that maintenance be performed more frequently. SERVICE POINT Control Pendant Hydraulic Power Unit Vehicle Interlock System Handrails Platform Decals Outer Rollstop Step-Lift Operation Step-Lift Travel Step-Lift Operation Step-Lift Travel Outer Rollstop Hydraulic Power Unit TABLE 3-1: DAILY SAFETY CHECK CHECK STEP-LIFT AT STOWED POSITION Visual damage and cable connector tightness. Visible hydraulic fluid leakage. Backup pump manual release valve is closed (lightly-seated). CAUTION One person must be in driver seat to maintain vehicle control during the following check. One operator sets parking brake, depresses vehicle brake pedal, turns on ignition and places transmission in gear. The second operator opens vehicle side door(s) and verifies that lift DOES NOT operate. Mounting bolts are tight. PLATFORM DEPLOYED Platform unfolds effortlessly (no grinding noises or binding), and all joints are secure. Securely attached, clearly visible and legible. Rollstop can be locked in upright position. RAISE PLATFORM TO FLOOR LEVEL Listen for abnormal sound as lift operates (i.e. grinding or binding noise). Step-lift rises fully to floor level. LOWER PLATFORM TO GROUND LEVEL Listen for abnormal noise as lift is operates (i.e. grinding or binding noise). Step-lift travel is sufficient to reach ground. Rollstop can be locked in upright position. Rollstop contacts ground when opened fully. Hydraulic fluid level in reservoir. (continued) 32DSL102.C 3-1
Outer Rollstop Platform Stow Lock STOW LIFT Rollstop pivots down flush against platform. Platform folds completely into step configuration. Stow Lock securely engages lift at stow level. SERVICE POINT Decals and Cleaning Drive Chains and Rollers Platform Hinge points Hydraulic Power Unit TABLE 3-2: MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE DESCRIPTION TWO-WEEK MAINTENANCE (or at 140-180 cycles of operation) Decals are affixed properly, clearly visible and legible. Replace as necessary. Serial number is clearly marked and legible. THREE-MONTH MAINTENANCE (or at 900-1000 cycles of operation) Spray Curtisol Red Grease No. 88167(or equivalent) (follow directions on container) on drive chains and drive rollers. Wipe excess grease from drive chains and surrounding areas. Spray Curtisol Red Grease No. 88167 (or equivalent) (follow directions on container) on platform hinge points. Wipe clean any excess grease from hinge and surrounding areas. CAUTION Check and add fluid when platform is at ground level. Adding fluid with platform raised will cause oil reservoir to overflow when it is lowered. Hydraulic fluid level is at required FULL level. Add only Texaco 01554 Aircraft Hydraulic Oil or equivalent U.S. mil spec H5606G fluid. CAUTION AN AUTHORIZED RICON SERVICE TECHNICIAN MUST PERFORM THIS MAINTENANCE CHECK. Drive Chain and Shafts Hydraulic cylinder, Hoses and Fittings Hydraulic Power Unit ANNUAL MAINTENANCE (or at 3600-4000 cycles of operation). Spray Curtisol Red Grease No. 88167 (or equivalent) (follow directions on container) on drive chains and drive shafts. Wipe excess grease from drive chains and surrounding areas. Inspect hydraulic hoses for damage. All fittings are tight. Check Hydraulic Cylinder for evidence of leaks. Flush system, add new hydraulic fluid and bleed system of air. CAUTION AN AUTHORIZED RICON SERVICE TECHNICIAN MUST PERFORM THIS MAINTENANCE CHECK. Control Pendant Hydraulic Power Unit SEVEN-YEAR MAINTENANCE (or at 25,000 to 26,000 cycles of operation) Replace pendant. Replace pump electric motor. TEN-YEAR MAINTENANCE (or after 36,000 cycles) Ricon Corporation recommends that lift be refit after ten years of service or 36,000 cycles of operation. 3-2 32DSL102.C
B. COMPONENT DESCRIPTION 1. INTERLOCK MODULE Note: The following section applies only to vehicles that have a Ricon interlock module installed, however, it is possible that a vehicle may have a non-ricon interlock module installed. Refer to Figure 3-1. The Interlock Module prevents operation of the lift and vehicle when it detects an unsafe condition. When the lift is deployed, the module locks the transmission in PARK. In addition, a warning light is illuminated. When the lift is unsafe to operate (i.e., the transmission is not in PARK) the Interlock Module removes power from the pendant. The Interlock Module is mounted under the dash next to the steering column. Refer to Tables 3-3, 3-4 and 3-5 for descriptions of the Interlock Module J1 J3 connector pin function states. 2. PLATFORM OVERRIDE SWITCH Refer to Figure 3-2. The Override Switch can be used as a temporary bypass if the platform fold switch, rollstop switch, or platform contacts do not operate. All of these switches and contacts must be working properly to enable operation of the platform. Pressing and holding the override switch will allow use of the pendant. The Override Switch is for emergency use, only, and an authorized Ricon service technician should service the lift after use of the switch.
