Compression Fittings & Valves Make the connection
Make the Connection with Compression Fittings, Valves, and Municipal Stops Make the connection with Philmac fittings. The versatile Philmac fitting system allows you to connect different kinds of pipe using the same basic fitting. You simply change the insert assembly, not the fitting. This unique design enables easy transition between different pipe materials polyethylene, copper and Kitec composite (PEX-AL-PEX and PE-AL-PE) pipes using the same central body with interchangeable insert assemblies. The result is substantial cost savings and reduced stock inventories. Made from corrosion-resistant, engineering grade thermoplastics, Philmac fittings and valves are also the premium choice for customers concerned with safety, long-term performance and maintenance costs. The Philmac Advantage: Made from UV and corrosion resistant engineering grade thermoplastics. Connects to a wide range of different pipe materials and sizes. Easily installed. Free of lead and other contaminants typical of metal systems. NSF and CSA approved. Proven worldwide for reliability and performance. Philmac service fittings combined with IPEX Blue Brute TM pipe provide municipalities with fully corrosion-free water and sewer systems. Resistant to freezing in above and below ground applications. Fully pullout resistant the fitting will outlast the pipe. Each joint is a permanent union and a positive seal. No end pullouts. Flexible system that can accommodate soil movement. BALL VALVES High Performance Valves All valves are rated at 200 PSI operating pressure at 68 F (20 C). Tensile strength valves exceed 2500 lbs. Burst pressure valves exceed 1200 PSI. Valves are available with blue or purple handles. Ball valves are available with options of compression, male or female NPT ends. Philmac ball valves are suitable for use above or below ground, in water distribution and irrigation lines. Valves function over a wide range of working pressures. Compact valve design allows fast and easy on/off control even in combined spaces. Ball valve seals are manufactured from internally lubricated material for smooth action and abrasion resistance. The curb stop incorporates a ratcheting handle to ensure that it will never be over-tightened. The angle meter stop incorporates a locking mechanism to prevent tampering. CURB STOPS
Applications Municipal Systems potable water, reclaimed water or sewage applications. With Philmac service fittings and IPEX Blue Brute TM pipe, municipalities can now construct virtually 100 percent of their key water and sewer systems from non-corroding materials. In fact, Philmac fittings can even help you preserve your existing metal systems by insulating copper service pipes from cast iron watermains. For municipal applications, the key fittings are corporation (main) stops, curb stops and meter valves. Irrigation Systems agricultural, landscape and turf, nursery and horticultural applications. Philmac fittings have established an outstanding international reputation for quality and performance for a wide range of irrigation applications. Rural systems, water wells, mining and marine applications Philmac s state-of-the-art products are utilized for a wide range of applications and have been proven worldwide to meet the most demanding challenges in thousands of diverse applications.
Selecting the Right Fittings and Insert Assembly Philmac fittings are versatile. Philmac is adaptable to different classes of pipe by selecting or changing the insert assemblies. These interchangeable insert assemblies have a material rigidity that prevents pipe collapse during compression load applied by the split collet. Factory-controlled tolerances ensure a match between the insert mouth and the sealing chamber of the central body ensuring a positive seal. The combination of both insert and angled split collet produces a sandwich effect on the pipe wall. The angle split allows uniform compression over the total circumference of the pipe, and fits into the back of the nut. Under tensile load the wedging action compresses even further. Philmac threads are also specially designed to accept load factors in a high tensile situation. Selecting the Right Fitting The chart illustrates the insert assemblies required for different classes of pipe. The central body and nut are common for all classes of polyethylene and copper pipes conforming to North American Standards. The inserts and split collets are colored for ease of identification. Every fitting may be reduced one or two sizes using the same body and nut by using a reducing insert kit. Nom. Installation Instructions Polyethylene Kitec Composite Pipe (PEX-AL-PEX and PE-AL-PE) Copper 1. Cut pipe square and deburr. Remove nut from central body. Slide nut & split collet over pipe, ensuring the taper on split collet faces towards the nut. 1. Cut pipe square. Only a plastic pipe cutter should be used. Ensure that the cutting blade is in good condition and sharp a hacksaw is not recommended. Remove nut from central body. Slide nut & split collet over pipe, ensuring the taper on split collet faces towards the nut. 1. Select correct fitting size and copper assembly set. Cut tube square, preferably with cutters, and deburr. Degrease tube and roughen with wire wool or similar. Slide nut, backing ring & metal clamp ring onto tube. 2. Tap insert into pipe, preferably with a flat object. Ensure o-ring is correctly positioned on the insert. Slide split collet up to insert shoulder. 2. Tap insert into pipe, preferably with a flat object. Ensure o-ring is correctly positioned on the insert. Slide split collet up to insert shoulder. 2. Ensure notches in gripper face tube end. Position rubber seal ring on tube with thin section flush with end of tube. Slide clamp and backing ring forward to meet rubber seal ring. 3. Push pipe with insert and seal ring assembly into end of central body. Engage and tighten nut with a wrench. 3. Push pipe with insert and seal ring assembly into end of central body. Engage and tighten nut with a wrench. 3. Push assembly into body of fitting. Engage and tighten nut with a wrench. Ensure that all pipework is securely anchored. IMPORTANT: When inserting plastic pipes and/or plastic fittings/valves into existing metal pipework, ensure electrical earth continuity is maintained. NB: Care must be taken not to cut pipe too short as it is essential to draw the pipe into the fitting when making a joint. For sealing NPT & AWWA threads, PTFE tape should be applied to male threads. Avoid excessive wrench pressure on central body when tightening nuts. End User s Responsibility 1. Ensure pipe is correct specifications and that valves, fittings and pipe meet local authority requirements. 2. Valves, fittings and pipe should be installed in accordance with manufacturer s instructions and industry standards. 3. Designed for potable cold water applications up to 200 PSI working pressure at 68 F (20 C). For temperatures exceeding this level, pressure must be derated in accordance with the polyethylene pipe manufacturer s specifications. 4. Chemical resistance for special applications check suitability of materials with manufacturer.
