Instruction Sheet P/N 10874C AN-8 Plus Air Spray Gun Solvent-Based to Waterborne Conversion Kit 1. Description Use the solvent-based to waterborne conversion kit to convert your Nordson AN-8 Plus Air Spray gun for use with waterborne coatings. Waterborne coatings are conductive and easily transmit an electrostatic charge through the fluid stream. WARNING: Do not use the AN-8 Plus fluid tube and standard solvent-based coating delivery hose with waterborne coatings. The dielectric strength of the fluid tube and delivery hose is not sufficient to prevent the electrostatic charge from burning through the tube or hose. This conversion kit allows you to replace the fluid tube and delivery hose with Nordson high dielectric strength Isocore hose. The waterborne coating can then be charged at the source (isolated pump or pressure pot). The waterborne conversion service kit consists of a hose adapter assembly; bracket; and Isocore hose which includes all of the pre-assembled fittings that are necessary to convert your gun. 2. Preparation WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Observe and follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation. WARNING: Turn off the electrostatic power unit and ground the gun electrode before adjusting or servicing your electrostatic spray gun. Wait three minutes for voltage to bleed off before removing the electrostatic cable from the gun; and ground the cable end before touching it. Failure to observe this warning could result in a severe electric shock, causing personal injury or death.
2 Solvent-Based to Waterborne Conversion Kit 2. Preparation (contd) WARNING: Relieve fluid and air pressure from the system before disconnecting air lines and fluid hoses. Failure to observe this warning could result in severe personal injury or death. See Figure 1. 1. Disconnect the fluid and air hoses from the gun handle base. WARNING: Do not use the standard fluid tube and delivery hose installed on your gun when converting to use of waterborne coatings. Failure to observe this warning could result in equipment damage, personal injury, or death. 2. Remove and discard the fluid tube () from between the gun extension and handle.. Disconnect the electrostatic cable from the cable adapter at the base of the handle. Pull the cable out of the gun. 4. Refer to the Model AN-8 Plus Manual Electrostatic Air Spray Gun manual for assistance in performing the following steps: a. Remove the gun extension from the gun handle. b. Remove the insulating tube (2) and gun resistor (1) from the gun extension. 5. Before you reassemble the gun, fill the gun extension resistor bore with dielectric grease. Do not leave any air pockets. NOTE: Warming the applicator with hot tap water will make it easier to inject the grease into the bore.

Assemble the O-ring (1) and knurled coupling nut () onto the fitting (2). 2. Apply a thin film of dielectric grease from the O-ring (1) back, prior to installing the fitting (2) into the gun extension (A).. Install the fitting (2) into the inlet port in the bottom of the gun extension (A) and tighten securely. 4. Use the plug (4) to install the bracket (5) onto the cable adapter (C). Tighten the plug securely. 5. See Figure. Figure shows an Isocore B hose (with fittings) as it is shipped with this kit. Apply a thin film of dielectric grease from the O-ring (1) back to the threads (2) of the connector prior to installing the hose assembly into the gun extension.
