Conditions European strategies - White paper for transport 2011 By 2050, key goals for urban transport will include a big shift to cleaner cars and cleaner fuels. 50% shift away from conventionally fuelled cars by 2030, phasing them out in cities by 2050. Halve the use of conventionally fuelled cars in urban transport by 2030; phase them out in cities by 2050; achieve essentially CO2-free movement of goods in major urban centres by 2030.

Conditions History of e-mobility in the last five years 1st phase: In 2008/09 e-mobility gets a (new) hype overall in the world. The key factor for a successful (re)start is the establishment of a complete network of charging infrastructure in the cities. Car manufacturers tell cities, that they have to install charging points. After this has happened, they will launch the first EV s (chicken-egg problem). Lot of cities and energy provider did judge investments. 2nd phase in 2011/12 a challenge: Cities have implemented an efficient network of charging points in their cities, car manufacturers launched their first electric models - but the numbers of registered electric cars in the cities are very low.

Problems Problem: People don t accept electric mobility why? Determining factors People are not willing to pay much higher prices Comparison (imiev vs. a middle class car = same price) People really don t know their own mobility requests Daily commuting vs. travelling People don t know, what is state of the art with electric cars Compare advantages and disadvantages of an EV s Cars are a status symbol What will happen with the status symbol in the future? Does everybody need his own car? It s time for a change? Some people think, E-mobility is a kind of back to the roots mobility. How much safety/comfort is necessary? Electric cars have a negative image slow vs. powerful/fun

Problems Thesis: People are one of the most important key factors for a successful implementation of e-mobility Where are the customers? Defining potential user groups and areas What does e-mobility really means? Show people, that EV s are for everyone, they really work and they are ready to start Why is e-mobility important for future? See, how mobility costs will rise up in the next years When e-mobility is a carbon free mobility? Explain environmental advantages of e-mobility (noise, pollution, CO2-emissions) and the need to use renewable energy Why is it fun to drive an electric car? Different ways to catch people for test driving

Challenges an barriers Comparison of the purchase prices of vehicles with combustion engine and electric drive (2012)

German funding program Model regions electric mobility (2009-2011, funding volume of EUR 500 million) and the continuation of the model regions electric mobility end of 2013 from the Konjunkturpaket II of the Federal Government (funding volume of EUR 130 million). Model rhine-main region (2009-2013) / The implementation of the projects can be done by 2015. EVUE Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe (funding from the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission from 2007 to 2013, founding volume of EUR 530 T). In the year 2012 four electric showcase regions were established in Germany: Berlin, Lower Saxony (Hannover), Bavaria (Munich) und Baden Württemberg (Stuttgart)

About us All marketing activities in the area of electromobility in Frankfurt. Establishment of the action label "Frankfurtemobil" in September 2010. Partners are Frankfurt Economic Development, traffiq, ABGnova and the Umweltforum. Since December 2011, the action label has its own website (www.frankfurtemobil.com). The aim of the website: Presentation of the current electric mobility projects. Promote electric mobility. Information about current events. New: Map with all public and semi-public charging stations.

Frankfurt initial projects May 2009: The city council decides to make Frankfurt a pioneer in the field of electric mobility. February 2010: Opening of the first charging station in the parking garage Börse of Mainova. April / October 2010: Delivery of the first electric cars for the Mainova and Frankfurt Economic Development. December 2010: Installation of three charging stations as part of the Frankfurt model electric mobility. The free access system enables anyone with an e-vehicle to load his vehicle without registration. January 2011: Presentation of the action label "Frankfurtemobil". Under the label various projects of the partners in Frankfurt are bundled and marketed.

Frankfurt projects Electric mobility is already successfully used in daily operations. In Frankfurt am Main, there are many companies that use this new kind of mobility without problems and eco-friendly. Initial situation: The Frankfurt Economic Development uses since autumn 2010 a "Stromos (EV) as a pool car. The parcel company UPS runs since December 2010 with an E-delivery car in the Frankfurt area packages. "Flinkster", the car sharing of Deutsche Bahn AG, provides at the Frankfurt main station electric vehicles of the vehicle type Mitsubishi i-miev and Citroen C1.

Frankfurt projects The Deutsche Bank uses 10 e-smarts in daily business. The Mainova uses 10 cars of Mitsubishi imiev as pool vehicles in Frankfurt and in the surrounding communities. The FES uses an electric vehicle in the city cleaning. Lufthansa Technik has in common with the Mainova established an inductive charging system for electric cars on the grounds of the Frankfurt airport.

Electric vehicles in use Electric mobility is already successfully used in daily operations. In Frankfurt am Main, there are many companies that use this new kind of mobility without problems and eco-friendly. Since June 2014 UPS runs in its fleet with six electric delivery vehicles. These cars are converted by a German company. State of Hesse and city of Frankfurt promote the use of electric vehicles in craft companies in Frankfurt und Wiesbaden. In total 200 cars will be subsidized. The city administration starts in autumn 2014 an order program for electric vehicles to push the use of EV s in daily operation.

Challenges and barriers Changing peoples mind about mobility requirements and scenarios in the future - awareness of electric vehicles. In the coming years (or decades) the conventional car" loses his role as a status symbol more and more. For younger generations owning a car is not as significant as 25 years ago. The mobility needs will be covered in future by mobility services (carsharing). Car manufacturers see their future role as a mobility service provider.

What is next Frankfurt E-mobility plan: The Frankfurt Economic Development, together with Continental AG held a workshop "Electric mobility in 2025 in Frankfurt". The aim of the workshop was that participants identify potential projects and define milestones how the issue of e-mobility in 2025 is able to shape the cityscape in Frankfurt and which goals are achieved with the use of e-mobility in the period 2010-2025. During the workshop, 26 projects in the fields of infrastructure, marketing, environment and target group were defined. As a result, at the end of the workshop, a vision was defined, which set targets would have reached the city of Frankfurt am Main in 2025 with e-mobility.

Vision 2020: Normal everyday use of multimodal transport chains with a focus on electric mobility (travel card). E-mobility is incorporated into the overall traffic plan (2015-2025). 2025 10% of automobile traffic (in Frankfurt) are electrically operated. Frankfurt has a powerful, differentiated and extensive network of public and private charging stations. In 2025 the share of low-emission and low-noise traffic within the ring system Frankfurt is over 50%. The EV's (electric vehicles) required power comes from 100% renewable sources. The "Frankfurt Model" for electric mobility is proven and is accepted nationwide. EVUE LAP Implementation

Result Is the electric mobility the panacea for our traffic problems? Electric vehicles can maximum make a positive difference in terms of environmental impact. Electric vehicles can not solve the problems of further increasing demand for mobility and transport. Electricmobility must be more than replacing an engine. Electric mobility is replaced by current estimates not the combustion engine, but one element of a future solution to its drive systems. Other modules could be e.g. the hydrogen-powered fuel cells. The construction of charging infrastructure in public spaces will play only a secondary role in the successful launch.
