OGLAEND SYSTEM DEVELOPING A NEW PRODUCT LINE Simply the best: When we started to design our new cable management system, we started from scratch. Our new FRP system s qualities are based on our thorough examination of market trends from various industries and regions, customer requirements and needs, competitors design and cost factors evaluated against more than 25 years of experience as a supplier of multidiscipline support systems world wide. Once we have digested our market data, we then started to design our system around the client s needs and our SMART technology. The founder behind the Oglaend System s success, Gunnstein Austigard once again was in the driving seat leading the development of the new product line, a new generation cable management systems in FRP. Together with Fraser Campbell, the FRP project manager and the engineering/ design team managed to modernize a well known technology into simply the best! Always at the cutting edge of design, seen here mid 2005 with the engineering team explaining what is expected and required from the new product. It s a magical moment when calculated material qualities and designed expectations are confirmed in the process. The products were thoroughly tested to make sure the load and deflection tables on page 20 are correct. The first tray rolls of the production line and is given the seal of approval by Gunnstein Austigard (left) and Fraser Campbell. Never far away from the action Gunnstein Austigard make sure test results for load capacity are within the expectations of the Nema 20 C. 4

Roving The pultrution process overview Resin bath Continuous mats and surface veil Pre-molding and finish-molding Pulling Cutting Heated die Process controle Pultrusion is a continuous process of roving, or mat/ roving bundles, which are drawn through a resin impregnated bath to coat each fiber with a specially formulated resin mixture. The impregnated fibers are then drawn through a heated die which forms the desired cross section. Curing of the thermosetting resin is initiated by heat in the die and catalyst in the resin. The rate of reaction is controlled by heating of the die. The resulting high unidirectional strength profile is cut to length and is ready to be used in another Oglaend FRP cable management system. Test and Standards Tests shown below are our current standards. Our test database is always being improved so please contact Oglaend System for our latest test data. Fire Rating: BS 467 part 7 class I BS 476 part 7 class II ASTM E 84 class I Flame Propagation: BS 476 part 6 Self Extinguishing: UL94-VO ASTM-D 635 Halogen free to: IEC60754-1 UV Stability: All products are UV resistant with surface veil. INSTALLATION GUIDE Six of the best points for a safe installation: 1. Carefully read the MSD Sheet on the resin system you are using, Contact Oglaend System for your copy. People with respiratory problems should not be exposed to dust created by FRP products. 2. Observe common safety precautions when using cutting tools. Always wear gloves, safety glasses or goggles and a respirator (mask) to reduce inhalation of dust. We recommend the use of approved masks only. 3. Dust from cutting FRP products can cause skin irritation. Wear clothing to reduce dust from contacting with skin. If dust causes difficulty in breathing or excessive skin irritation, stop immediately and consult a doctor. 4. Take care when using the resin sealing pack. Carefully read and follow the instructions enclosed in the resin pack prior to use. Always wear safety glasses and protective clothing when working with FRP products or resins. Do not allow resin or catalyst to come in contact with skin. 5. When possible, try to cut or modify «on-site» this will increase accuracy and reduce waste and always allow (5mm) for the blade thickness when cutting. 6. To maintain the long service life Oglaend System s products are known for always seal the cut ends with an approved sealing resin pack from Oglaend System. WARNING! Not to be used as a walkway, ladder or support for personnel. To be used only as a mechanical support for cables and tubing. Cable ladders are designed as a support for power or control cables, or both and is not intended or designed to be a walkway for personnel. NEMA FG-1 Installation of Oglaend System fiberglass ladder & trays should be made in accordance with the standards set by NEMA Publication FG-1, Cable Ladder Installation Guide, and National Electrical Code, Article 318. Always observe common safety practices when assembling ladder and fittings. Installations usually require some field cutting. Dust created during fabrication presents no serious health hazard, but skin irritation may be experienced by some workers. Operators of saws and drills should wear masks, long sleeve shirts or coveralls. Fabrication with fiberglass is relatively easy and comparable to working with wood. Ordinary hand tools may be used in most cases. Avoid excessive pressure when sawing or drilling. Too much force can rapidly dull tools and also produce excessive heat which softens the bonding resin in the fiberglass resulting in a ragged edge rather than a clean-cut edge. Field cutting is simple and can be accomplished with a Jig saw or a circular power saw with abrasive cut-off wheel (masonry type) carbide gritted or diamond tip blade or hack saw. Drill fiberglass as you would drill hard wood. Standard twist drills are more than adequate. Any surface that has been drilled, cut, sanded or otherwise exposed to the elements must be sealed with a suitable resin. This is recommended to prevent corrosive chemicals from reaching exposed glass fibers. Carbide tipped saw blades and drill bits are recommended when cutting large quantities. Support the fiberglass material firmly during cutting operations to keep material from shifting which may cause chipping at the cut edge. Each ladder section length should be equal to or greater than the support span.-when possible, the splice should be located at quarter span. Fittings should be supported as per NEMA FG-1. 26

SUPPORT LOCATIONS - Cable Tray & Fittings (REFERENCE: NEMA FG - 1 (current issue) Straight Sections Supports must be located so that connectors (splice joints) between horizontal runs fall between the support point and the quarter point of the span. STRAIGHT REDUCER FIG. SPLICE AT L/4 LENGTH OF SPAN = L IN MULTIPLE SPAN CONDITION SPLICE AT L/4 SUPPORT SUPPORT Standard engineering practice requires that the splice joints be located where they will resist little or no bending moment. This allows the cable tray system to act as a continuous member with spans working in conjunction with one another to resist loading. When a cable tray system is installed with the splice joints located directly over the support, the previous continuous span condition is changed to one of a number of simple spans. These spans act independently of each other and excessive stress will occur at substantially less loading. Vertical straight lengths should be supported at intervals dictated by the building structure not exceeding 24 Ft. on centers. A support should be located 2 Ft. on each side of an expansion connection. Horizontal Fitting Supports Supports should be placed within 2 Ft. (.61m) of each fitting extremity, and as follows: 90 degree supports at the 45 degree point of the arc, 45 degree supports at the 22.5 degree point of the arc (except for the 12 radii), 30 degree supports at the 15 degree point of the arc (except for the 12 radii). HORIZONTAL ELBOWS FIG. OFFSET REDUCER FIG. Reducer Fitting Supports Straight reducer and right/left hand reducer fittings should be supported within 2 Ft. (.61m) of each fitting extremity. HORIZONTAL CROSS FIG. Horizontal Cross Supports Supports should be placed within 2 Ft. (.61m) of the four openings connected to other cable tray items for the 12 (305mm) radius. On all other radii, at least one support should also be placed under each side rail of the cross. VERTCAL ELBOWS FIG. Vertical Fitting Supports Vertical fittings at the top runs should be supported at each end. Fittings at the bottom of runs should be supported at the top of the fitting, and within 2 Ft. (.61m) of the lower extremity of the fitting. Vertical fittings at the top runs should be supported at each end. Fittings at the bottom of runs should be supported at the top of the fitting, and within 2 Ft. (.61m) of the lower extremity of the fitting. Vertical Tee Supports VERTICAL TEE FIG. Vertical tee fittings should be supported within 2 Ft. (.61m) of each fitting extremity. Horizontal Tee Supports Supports should be placed within 2 Ft. (.61m) of each of the three openings connected to other cable tray items for 12 (305mm) radius. On all other radii, at least one support should also be placed under each side rail of the tee.
