THE EDITOR s DESK CLUB BUSINESS CARDS A good week before Thanksgiving, I noticed Salvation Army bell ringers and collection kettles in front of many stores. While I am as generous as the next person when it comes to charitable causes, I refused to drop even one penny into them. Why? It was just too darned early to get into the Christmas spirit! That s why! At least wait until we ve stuffed our faces (and bellies) with turkey and worked it off with a mad dash for bargains on Black Friday. (Now that we are past Thanksgiving and the riotous Black Friday, I do try to drop a little something in those kettles if I can.) Like it or not, the Holiday Season is here. That means the Inland Northwest Corvair Club will once again meet to celebrate Christmas and the other festivities of the time. Once again, INCC members Tom and Kathy Schager will graciously open their home to us so that we may share a bit of this joyous occasion. Details of the get together can be found further into this issue of the Rear Engine Review. I hope to see all of you there. Inland Northwest Corvair Club P. O. Box 9689 Spokane, WA 99209-9689 http://www.corvairclub.com I can produce INLAND NORTHWEST CORVAIR CLUB business cards, either as shown or with your name and contact information in the upper right hand corner. I can also make double-sided cards in case you would like to include another organization, a picture of your Corvair, etc. Dave Clark's Corvair Parts Clark's has been your supplier for quality repros for the past 37 years. TENTATIVE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR 2012 December 9 Christmas/Holiday Party TREASURER s REPORT Submitted by Dave McChesney Over the past month we gained $58.00 in dues and an estimated 10 as dividends on our savings. We reimbursed a member $26.00 for expenses incurred in hosting a club event, and spent $9.00 in postage to mail out this issue. (Postage not used to mail the RER goes to the cost of paper, ink, etc.) Current balances stand at $159.58 for checking, $1036.81 for savings, and $1196.54 total. Hey, a lot of folks are getting behind in dues! Please remit same as soon as possible or let us know you no longer want to be an INCC member. February 2011 February 2012 June 2012 Lance Jordan Sarah & Scott Pennington Curt & Cody Hurley Tom & Kathy Schager Dues are $15.00 per year. CORSA members get a $2.00 discount and pay $13.00. Payment in advance extends your membership one year from the current date of expiration. Late payment procures a year s membership from the date payment is received, a very special deal for those who are always overdue. If you cannot attend a club event and pay your dues in person, please send a check or money order to the club s mailing address: Inland Northwest Corvair Club P. O. Box 9689 Spokane, WA 99209-9689 Once again, the Inland Northwest Corvair Club approaches the end of the year in fine financial shape. As we did last year, I believe we should donate a portion of that to the Spokesman-Review s Christmas Bureau. We gave $100.00 last year, and if there are no objections, I will send the same amount within the next couple of weeks. NOW ON NOOK & KINDLE (Great for the readers on your gift list) Liquid Wrench 127 pounds Kano Kroil 106 pounds ATF*-Acetone mix 53 pounds The ATF-Acetone mix is a "home brew" mix of 50/50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this "home brew" released bolts better than any commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results. Note that "Liquid Wrench" is almost as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price. FOR SALE Learn more at (www.stoneislandseastories.com) Contact Dave (daveeva@comcast.net) for signed copies and/or special prices. I usually have copies with me at INCC and other events, so ask if you are interested. CORVAIR TIPS AND HINTS I have a 1960 Corvair for sale. Asking $7995. Original engine with 35,562 miles. Automatic Transmission, new upholstery and carpet. Anyone interested please contact me at (812) 432-3416. Located in Dillsboro, Indiana. Buyer pays for shipping. Thank you, Ronald Chub Schnebelt. I got the following from a long-time friend. We were in the Boy Scouts together. It arrived just in time for me to incorporate it in this newsletter as a possible tech-tip. Penetrating Oils Machinist's Workshop MagT recently published some information on various penetrating oils that I found very interesting. Some of you might appreciate this. The magazine reports they tested penetrates for break out torque on rusted nuts. They are below, as forwarded by an exstudent and professional machinist. They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrates with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" environment. *Penetrating oils No Oil used WD-40 PB Blaster Average torque to loosen* 516 pounds 238 pounds 214 pounds REAR ENGINE REVIEW - 3 - DECEMBER 2012

I have enclosed several pictures of my 1964 Corvair Monza Convertible. I would appreciate it if you would show these to your club members or post where they will see them. I have belonged to the Corvair Society of America for many years; hence this is where I received your Chapter information. I personally have owned many Corvairs since 1960 and have enjoyed each one tremendously but the time has come for this 72 year-old man to part with my best friend. I consider this Corvair to be in near-mint condition with just 8,200 miles since its restoration and overhaul. If there is any interest I can be reached at (217) 343-2424.
