1. Features : 1.1 The KP-100W6 is a multi-function intelligent charger with high efficiency digital power system. It can charge or discharge Li-Po / Li-Ion / Li-Mn / Li-Fe / NiMH / NiCD / Pb 1.2 The KP-100W6 has a built in Balancer; which balances individual cells while charging Lithium Batteries. 1.3 The KP-100W6 has a 16*2 backlit LCD that displays the charging cycle, battery voltage, charge current, pack temperature, capacity (added or removed) and charge/discharge times. 1.4 The KP-100W6 can also be connected to any windows based PC via a serial port. The users can keep the most up-to-date information on their battery packs with the included comprehensive monitoring and analysis software. 1.5 The KP-100W6 provides you the ability to charge and discharge batteries easily and safely. 1.6 The KP-100W6 is pre-programmed with different charge settings for Li-xx battery (Normal /Fast /Slow /Storage /Balance), and also has a cycle function with a maximum of 5 cycles. 1.7 The KP-100W6 is equipped with a very accurate temperature sensor (included) to safeguard your packs during charging/discharging. It will stop charging or discharging if the pre-set temperature is reached. 1.8 The KP-100W6 can be upgraded with the PC software (included), which downloads the most up-to-date firmware and user s manual to update your KP-100W6. It can also install updates from Hard Drive or CD in case you have no internet access. No need to return it to us when new software is needed 2. 4. Operation Intro: Once the charger is powered up, it will display the charger name and the software version screen (F0) for 3 seconds. After initialization, the KP-100W6 will display the input voltage (F1). After 3 seconds, temperature is displayed If the temperature sensor is not connected you will get an alarm telling you it is not connected (F2), You still can use the KP-100W6 without temperature sensor. Next, the No Battery screen (F3) will be displayed until a pack is connected. Once a battery is connected, you will get either the (F5) screen for Li-xx or the (F9) screen for Ni-xx, Pb, and LiFe. Next is the Charge/Discharge Screen (F4) The KP-100W6 shows the Charging Status screen (F8) when charging or discharging. (When a Li-xx pack with a balance connector is connected, the cursor on the top right will flash, you can press the INC key to enter the individual cell voltage display screen (F6)). Press DEC to return to (F8). Top left of the screen (F8) explains which part of the charging cycle is in progress. CC: Constant current charging; CV: Constant voltage charging; ST: Initial charging of Li-xx battery; TR: Trickle charging of NiMH/NiCad Battery. Also shown on (F8) is the current pack voltage, the charge rate, the temperature of the pack, the Amps added into the pack and the timer. 3

5. Lithium battery balance charging information 5.1 The KP-100W6 can balance charge three types of lithium cells (Li-Po/Li-Ion/Li-Mn) as well as Li-Fe. 5.2 As a safety feature, the KP-100W6 will not charge Li-xx(LiFe excluded) batteries that do not have a balance charging connector. Only one balance connector cable should be connected to the KP-100W6. 5.3 The KP-100W6 has 5 charging modes; FAST / NORMAL / SLOW / STORAGE / BALANCE. FAST NORMAL SLOW STORAGE BALANCE Charge current 1C 1C 0.5C 0.5C Auto balance current during CC Max.charge current:5a/100w Max.balance current:400ma Max.CH current:5a Max.DH current: 2A/12W Cut-off current This mode is used to during CV 1/10C 1/20C 1/20C bring out of balance Cut-off voltage Li-Po & Li-Mn 4.20V, CH->3.85V packs that are too ( V/cell ) Li-Ion 4.10V DH->3.80V imbalanced to charge. NOTE: Although FAST MODE and NORMAL MODE charge have the same 1C current. There can be a difference in charging time due to the different stopping current. The charge can finish within one and a half hours in the FAST Mode. 5.5 Lithium battery charging in KP-100W6 can balance charge Li-Po/Li-Ion/Li-Mn Battery of 2-6 cells. When any type of Lithium battery is connected, the charger displays the Li-xx Status screen (F5), the pack voltage, the imbalance between cells, the battery type and the amount of cells in series. The selection cursor flashes over the > symbol (top right). By pressing the INC button, the display will change to the Individual Cell Voltage Display screen (F6). Press the DEC button to return to the Li-xx Status screen (F5). On the Li-xx Status Screen (F5), press the ENTER button to move the selection cursor to the pack type. Press INC and DEC to move between LiPo, LiIon, LiMn, (if type is displayed incorrectly). If type of pack is displayed correctly, press the ENTER key again to move to the number of cells in series selection, Use the INC and DEC buttons to select the number of cells in series (if not detected correctly). Now press ENTER to move to the Charge/Discharge Screen (F4). The cursor will be flashing on CHG. Press ENTER. This takes you to the Charge setting screen (F7) The Selection cursor will be flashing over the battery capacity, use the INC and DEC buttons to enter the battery capacity. Press enter for next digit. Press ENTER to move the selection cursor to the charging mode, use the INC and DEC buttons to set the required mode. Now press ENTER to start the charge cycle. While charging, the Charging Status screen (F8) will be shown. This shows the stage of the charge cycle (top left), the pack voltage, the charging rate, the pack temperature, the capacity replaced and the time of charge. When any type of Li-xx is being charged, the selection cursor will flash over >. Press INC to view individual cell voltage (F6). Press DEC to return to charge screen. Upon charging completion, the CH END screen will be displayed (F20). NOTE: Press STOP to stop charging anytime. 5.6 Timer: In the start of Charging or Discharging in any mode, an internal timer is activated and displayed on the charge and discharge screens. Review: Use INC and DEC to change the values Press ENTER to move the cursor forward. Press ESC to move the cursor backward. Very easy with a little practice 6

6. NiMH/NiCD/LiFe Battery charging instructions: KP-100W6 can charge NiMH/NiCD Battery of 1-18 cells, and LiFe of 1-8 cells. KongPower Technology Co., Ltd. When a battery is connected without a balance connector, the KP-100W6 goes into the NiMH/NiCD mode. The Ni**/Pb/LiFe Status screen (F9) is displayed. On this screen, the current voltage of the pack, the type of battery and the number of cells in the pack are displayed. The selection cursor will be flashing over the battery type, select the correct pack type (if not displayed correctly). Press ENTER ; select the correct amount of cells in the pack (if incorrect) and press ENTER again. This will take you to the Charge/Discharge Screen (F4); the selection cursor will be flashing over CH so press enter to take you to the Charge Rate Setting screen (F10), The selection cursor will be flashing over the battery capacity setting. Just enter the battery capacity. Press ENTER again to move the selection cursor to the charging rate setting, set the charge rate; (0.1A to 5.0A). Finally, press ENTER to start charging. While charging, the Charging Status screen (F30) is shown. Charge cycle, the pack voltage, the charging rate, the pack temperature, the capacity replaced and the time of charge are displayed. Upon charging completion, the Charge End screen is shown (F31). 7

7. Pb Battery charging instructions: KP-100W6 can charge Pb Battery of 2-24V. When the Ni**/Pb/LiFe Status screen (F9) is displayed, set the type of battery to Pb, then press ENTER to move to the cell count setting. Select the correct amount of cells in the pack (a 12.6V Pb battery is 6S)(2V/Cell)) and press ENTER. This will take you to the Charge/Discharge Screen (F4). The selection cursor will be flashing over CHG. Press ENTER to take you to the Charge Rate Setting screen (F11), On the Charge Rate Setting screen (F11) the selection cursor will be flashing over the battery capacity, set the correct value, then press ENTER to move to the charging rate, set the required charging rate (0.1A to 5A). Press ENTER to start charging. While charging, the Charging Status screen (F32) will be shown. The charge cycle, the pack voltage, the charging rate, the pack temperature, the capacity replaced and the timer are displayed. Upon charging completion, the Charge End screen will be shown (F33). 8. Discharge function: The KP-100W6 can be set to various discharge voltages and automatically discharge the battery to the voltage entered, depending on the battery chemistry. Cutoff Voltage: Battery Type Li-Po/Li-Ion Li-Mn Li-Fe Ni-xx Pb Cutoff Voltage (per cell) 2.75V ~ 3.6V 2.50V ~ 3.6V 2.00V ~ 2.50V 0.8V ~ 1.10V 1.8V ~ 2.0V To discharge any type of battery, screen (F5) or (F9) is displayed when battery is connected. Select the correct type of chemistry and amount of cells in the pack. Press ENTER when done. On the Charge/Discharge screen (F4), press the INC button to move the selection cursor to DSCH, then press ENTER to move to the Discharge Settings screen (F12). On this screen (F12), the selection cursor will be flashing over the discharge rate setting. Set the desired discharge rate (0.1A~2A and up to a maximum of 12 Watts). Once you have the correct values set, press ENTER to start the discharge cycle. NOTE: Set the discharge cut-off voltage in SETUP function. Pls check page 11. Setup Menu Instructions & screen (F22) The Discharge Information screen is shown (F13). Discharge cycle, voltage of the pack, discharge current, (when Li-xx type batteries are connected, you can press the INC button to see the Individual Cell Voltage Display (F6)), the battery temperature, the capacity discharged and the timer are displayed. When the discharging has finished, the Discharge End screen is shown (F14). The voltage of the pack (when any of the Li-xx types of batteries are connected you can press the INC button to see the Individual Cell Voltage Display (F6)), the battery temperature, the capacity discharged and the time spent are displayed. NOTE: Press STOP to stop discharging anytime 9

9. Cycle Mode: The KP-100W6 can be set to cycle any of the battery chemistries supported from 1 to 5 cycles. Connecting the pack to be cycled, screen (F5) for Li-xx cells or (F9) for Ni-xx, LiFe and Pb cells will be shown. Use the INC, DEC and ENTER buttons as described previously to set the correct cell type and amount of cells in series. Press ENTER In the Charge/Discharge screen (F4), press the INC button twice to move the selection cursor to Cycle. Press ENTER to move to the Cycle Setting screen (F15). The selection cursor will be flashing on the pack capacity setting. Please enter the battery capacity. To input the number of cycles desired, press ENTER to move the selection cursor to the Cycle count setting screen (F16). In the Cycle Discharge Rate Screen (F16), the selection cursor will be flashing on the discharge rate setting (upper right). Enter the discharge rate desired. Press ENTER to move the selection cursor to the charge mode setting (in Li-xx mode), and charge Rate setting (in Ni-xx mode). Enter charge mode or charge rate. Press ENTER to begin the cycle(s) NOTE: On the (F16) screen in Ni-xx mode, the charge mode is replaced by a charge current. The Discharge Information Screen is shown (F13), which displays the voltage of the pack, the discharge current, the battery temperature, the capacity discharged and the timer. When any of the Li-xx types of batteries are connected, you can press the INC button to enter the Individual Cell Voltage Display (F6). When the discharge cycle is finished, the KP-100W6 has a 5 minutes cool down period before it begins the charge cycle. This countdown is shown on the Charge Wait screen (F17). The voltage and the total capacity pulled out are also visible. After the 5 minutes, the charge cycle will begin. When the Charge cycle is completed, the charger will either display the Charge End screen (F18) or the Discharge Wait Screen (F19) to go into the next Discharge/Charge cycles until the total number of cycles are completed. 10

10. Setup Menu Instructions: In the KP-100W6 setup menu, you can set the maximum charging voltage/cell of all the supported battery chemistries. To access the Setup Menu, first connect a battery pack and then choose the type of battery and the correct amount of cells in series as previously described. Press ENTER in the Charge/Discharge screen (F4) and press the INC button three times to move the selection cursor to select SETUP with ENTER button. This takes you to the CH Cut-off Voltage screen (F21); the selection cursor will be flashing on the battery type. Use the INC and DEC buttons to change between the different battery types. Press the ENTER key to select the battery type. Now set the desired maximum voltage for that particular type of battery. Press either the STOP button to return to the battery type selection, or press the ENTER button to move on to the DH Cut-off Voltage screen (F22) On screen (F22), just as on the CH Cut-off Voltage screen (F21), the selection cursor will be flashing on the battery type, use the INC and DEC buttons to change between battery types. Press ENTER to move the selection cursor to the DH Cut-off Voltage setting to select the type of battery, also enter the minimum voltage for that particular type of battery. Press the STOP button to return to the battery type selection or press the ENTER button to move to the Temperature Cut-off Screen. The Temperature Cutoff screen (F23) sets the cutoff temp for all battery types. If any battery being charged or discharged reaches this temperature level, the KP-100W6 will stop the charge/discharge. The temperature sensor has to be installed to have this function working properly when in charge/discharge mode. On the Temperature Cutoff screen, the selection cursor will be flashing on the cutoff temperature setting. Enter your preferred Cutoff temperature. Press ENTER to proceed to the Delta Peak Setting screen (F24) On the Delta Peak Setting screen, the selection cursor will flash on the NiCD peak setting value. Set your preference then press the ENTER button, which will move the selection cursor to the NiMH peak setting. Set it to your preference. Press the ENTER button. This completes the setup menu and will take you back to either the (F5) or (F9) status screen depending on the type of battery connected. NOTE: Please check the range of setup value on Page 8. 11

Connection guide for charging two packs of 3S Lipo: KP-100W6 Intelligent Pulse Charger allows you to charge either two 3S packs, or three 2S packs as a single 6S pack, if and only if the packs have identical capacity and the voltage between cells are not significantly imbalanced Please be sure to check the illustration on page.13 and to follow the procedures step by step. Also, it is very important not to connect more than 1 balance connector into the charger itself at all time; doing so will damage the charger as well as the battery packs! There are option cables you might need to prepare for making a successfully connection. 11.1 Connection Procedure: 1. Connect the charger to power supply. 2. Connect Kraken to charger. 3. Connect Ultra Plug Serial Cable to Kraken. 4. Connect Pack A and Pack B to Ultra Plug Serial Cable in sequence. Cathode(-) first 5. Connect Pack A and Pack B to Kong Power Battery Bridge in sequence. Cathode(-) first 6. Connect Kong Power Battery Bridge to charger. 4pin connector first. 7. Connect and place the temperature sensor beneath Pack A or Pack B. 8. The charger now shows Type: LiPo 6S on the screen. 9. After sale service and maintenance The following items can be updated periodically via the network. Monitor software of KP-100W6 System software of KP-100W6 Manual of KP-100W6 To keep your charger and PC software up-to-date, please regularly download and update your KP-100W6 firmware via the firmware upgrader included. Before starting to upgrade the firmware, DO make sure NO BATTERY is connected to the charger. Fail to do so will fry the microchips inside the charger. You may connect your battery back ONLY after the upgrade process is 100% completed If your charger does not seem to work properly, please carefully read this User s Manual first to identify the possible cause of the problem. If the problems can t be settled, please do the following; 1. Back up your data with the monitor software. 2. Take photos of error message displayed on the screen if there is any.. 3. Write down the problems. Please contact your local Kong Power distributor or dealer with (2.) and (3.). We will help you to solve the problems. If the problem persists, please contact your local distributor or dealer. You will be eligible for a refund or replacement, if provided warranty conditions have been met. 14

14. Warranty: The warranty of this product is covered for a period of one year (12 months). Only the material or operational defects, which are present at the time of purchase, are subject to the warranty condition. In the warranty period, we will repair or replace without service charge any product deemed defective due to those causes.
