The product range includes elevators for permanent installations on fixed structures such as dams, chimneys, silos and offshore platforms and on moveable structures, such as container handling cranes. The company is a privately owned enterprise with an excellent track record for continuity and reliability dating back as far as 1919. De Jong's headquarters, with its large factory and warehouse, are located at Leerdam, in The Netherlands. De Jong's permanent elevators are distributed throughout the world by the Cavotec Group sales organisation. 2
Permanent Elevators PE Series. The PE series elevators are specifically designed for use on ship-to-shore cranes and container/bulk handling cranes in general. Thanks to its versatile design the PE elevator is also popular for installation on permanent highrise structures such as chimneys, off-shore platforms, towers and ships. The general design is made in accordance with the most stringent guidelines, rules and regulations in force for this specific type of elevator. The elevator is made with carefully selected materials. All steel components are fully hot-bath galvanised while the cabin walls are made of high quality sandwich panels. Floors, panel links and rooftop are constructed of heavy duty anti-slip aluminium. All of this will keep surface maintenance to an absolute minimum while ensuring a lifetime of trouble free operation. As an extra all the electrical panels, cabin and door can be made in stainless steel (316L) to cope with exceptionally harsh environmental conditions. 3
The PE series quality standard. To ensure a top quality product, conform to all the latest rules and regulations, a special in-house quality system has been developed. To guarantee this system it is important to know the following facts concerning De Jong: All design and manufacturing processes are made within the same organisation and are routinely monitored by an external notified institute De Jong has a select group of credited suppliers reducing the possibility of mistakes to a minimum The majority of components are interchangeable between most of De Jong's products, ensuring competitive pricing Thanks to clear manufacturing standards and product regulations all processes are focused and effective. The advantages. Single drive, module 8 pinion systems ensure a firm grip on the racks. The big pinions providing a smooth run along the racks. Each pinion has, straight opposite, its individual counter roller to ensure a firm and secure engagement. All racks are bolted to the masts. All load bearing rollers are executed as twin rollers mounted on a pivoting plate, giving a smooth run along the mast sections. The bigger type of PE Series (PE6) elevators from De Jong have a double motor drive system. A control pendant fitted at each landing to call the elevator to the selected level. 5
Elevator Positions. Typical for a crane application The base entrance is located at about 6 to 7 meters above ground level so as to accommodate free movement of double stack containers in between the crane legs. The first landing is usually situated at the portal beam/ cable reel level. The second landing is placed at the drivers cab level while the top landing is at the machine house level. Platform doors, which are fully interlocked, are positioned at each landing to accommodate safe and easy traffic. The drag-cable store system is fitted along the side of the mast, neatly stored inside a channel. Standard components of the PE Series. Base Assembly The base unit forms the body of the elevator and comprises of the following main components; carrier, cabin, drive unit, electrical panels and base enclosure All these components are preassembled, pre-wire, tested and ready for installation. The whole is assembled on 3 mast sections including a buffer zone underneath the elevator carrier. The buffer zone can be entered through the enclosure doors. The cabin doors can be positioned on either of the 3 available sides with a further choice to have two door positions instead of the standard one. A pivoting door is positioned in the base enclosure providing access to and from the cabin. All doors are fully interlocked with the cabin movements. Travel Assembly The travel carrier is the central structural part of the elevator. It carries the elevator and its drive system. The electrical drag-cables are neatly packed inside a cable chain system which in itself slides in a aluminium or stainless steel guide channel. This system reduces completely any wind interference, which of course is of high importance at greater heights and in windy port environments. The standard drive unit consists of one, gear reduction drive. A frequency inverter is installed to have a definite soft start and stop situation. Cabin The cabin structure is cladded with aluminium panels giving it a luxurious finish. The cabin is equipped with; 2 pivoting doors equipped with pivot switches to monitor the position of each door, a brake release handle to lower the cabin in a controlled manner, through a centrifugal brake, in case of an electrical malfunction, emergency stop button to stop all functions at all stations, landing level selection buttons, central, battery backed, interior light, escape ladder. 8
This picture shows a standard type elevator inside its base enclosure fitted on the factory test rig. The bottom section houses the buffer station. The red L shaped structure is used to set and seal each individual centrifugal emergency brake system. All De Jong elevators, hoists and platforms are fully tested before leaving the factory. The tests also include a drop test. The elevator, on the same test rig, ready for the drop test and final evaluation before leaving the factory for its destination. Look at the neatness of the cabin and its supporting structures. Of course windows can be inserted in all side walls, if required. View of the control panel inside the cabin. All functions are placed together in one logical line in one column. Big windows in the doors give ample sight when arriving at a landing station. 9
Some details of the PE Elevator. Centrifugal safety brake all set and sealed, the heart of all safety systems. Rack, pinion and counter roller in combination with the tandem rollers offer an unique concept for a smooth ride. Control pendant at the top of the roof for easy assembly and maintenance. While in use all other pendants become inoperative. Base control cabinet with main switch and an emergency switch. The drag cables, neatly packed away in a cable chain which slides inside a guide channel. No wind interference to worry about. Base buffers inside the base enclosure. A work platform can be positioned if the buffers are at any height above ground level. 10
Great care, innovation and involvement De Jong's Liften has, as a manufacturer of a wide range of elevators, passenger/goods hoists and transport platforms, a long history of equipment manufacturing dating as far back as 1919.
