Wrlds First Mnblc Catalyst Battery The SEC CELLYTE 12FTA and SEC CELLYTE 12FTG batteries are the rst Mnblc batteries t use the Catvent Mnblc Catalyst ventcap design. This was intrduced fr several very imprtant reasns. The at current is reduced by up t 50% by using a catalyst, this reduce the at service energy required by the battery, the heat generated in the cabinet and thus the air-cnditining needed t cl the battery cabinets. The 12FTA/FTG batteries are mainly used n shelves with fur batteries per shelf cnnected in series. When tted with the ptinal catalyst the vltage f each battery will be very unifrm making the paralleling f up t 4 shelves f batteries pssible at temperature up t 30 C withut a reductin in battery life. 02

TYPICAL TRIPLE SEAL DETAIL Special Features The use f frnt terminal batteries in telecm racks usually places the batteries belw the electrnics. When a large capacity battery is required there can be up t 4 shelves f batteries at 48 vlts at 400Ah (12-FTA-100/12-FTG-100) r even 48 vlts at 800Ah (12-FTA-175/12-FTG-175), this increases the vlume f gas being vented. T make sure that these gasses d nt adversely effect the electrnic equipment, the SEC range f 12FTA and 12FTG batteries can be vented utside the cabinet by tubing vents frm the battery maniflds utside the cabinet. INFORMATION CELLYTE 12FTA & 12FTG Frnt Terminal Batteries I n k e e p i n g w i t h u r p h i l s p h y t s t a y a t t h e f r e f r n t f t h e e v e r e x p a n d i n g T e l e c m s t a n d b y battery market, we have extended ur range f 19" frnt terminal batteries t 155Ah capacity and 175Ah capacity fr 23" frnt terminal batteries. These batteries include several innvative features: triple barrier terminal pst seal, high Tin/Calcium psitive plate ally fr imprved, by up t 65% deep cycle capacity f the 12FTA batteries and the Wrld rst Mnblc Catalyst. Sealed Valve Regulated Cnstructin - These batteries are f the Absrbed Glass Mat (AGM) r Gelled electrlyte (GEL) technlgy. The electrlyte in the cell is immbilized in a specially frmulated nn wven glass mat separatr r in a thixatrpic GEL. All the acid is absrbed in this manner prviding a safe nn-spillable battery. Gas Recmbinatin System - The gasses generated in the nrmal charge/discharge use f a rechargeable lead acid battery are internally recmbined during nrmal perating parameters and in nrmal peratinal use, mre than 99% f the gas generated is recmbined. SEC Catvent - Catalyst Vent - SEC s VRLA cells incrprated the Philadelphia Scienti c Mnblc precius metal Catalyst Catvent which prevents the negative plate frm deplarizing reduces the cell at current by up t 50%, reduces the cell gassing by abut 80%, reduces cell dry ut which is the majr cause f VRLA battery failure. Battery Maintenance - The battery has been designed and built such that n additin f electrlyte r water is needed during the life f the battery. Battery Life in Flat Service - CELLYTE 12FTA batteries are suitable fr at/standby service with a design life f 12years at 20 C. Battery Life in Cycle Life - CELLYTE 12FTG batteries are suitable fr deep cycle service, battery life will depend n temperature, depth and frequency f cycling, hwever the use f the ptinal Catvent Catalyst will imprve life in temperature up t 30 C. Battery One-Way Safety Valve - When pressure builds up in the cell and German safety ne-way valve pens at 2-3 psi and releases the excessive pressure and then clses. The ne-way valve des nt allw the ingress f xygen which is harmful and refuces battery life. Temperature Range fr Nrmal Operatin - CELLYTE 12FTA/12FTG batteries have a wide perating temperature range -25 C t +55 C. Hwever fr maximum life it is recmmended t perate the battery at 20 C when nt tted with VRLA Catalyst and between 20 C t 30 C when tted with VRLA Catalyst. Plate Design and Paste Frmulatin - SEC has ptimized the plate and paste frmulatin t maximize the perating life f the battery. The High Tin Virgin pure lead 1.6% Tin plate ally is used t extend the battery life and cycling capability. Paste frmatin will prvide excellent recvery frm deep discharge. With lw self-discarge t ensure maximum strage time when nt in use Alternative lwer cst, Calcium, High Tin (1.6%) Plate is available. Bene ts f Catalyst in SEC VRLA Batteries One f the mst immediate, bservable effects f installing a catalyst in a VRLA cell is a sudden drp in the at current. Typically at currents are ne half r less when a catalyst is installed. Adding a catalyst t the cell prevents sme f the xygen reaching the negative plate and allws the negative plate t stay plarized. This means that less current needs t be supplied t the cell frm the charging system, manifesting itself as lwer at current, leading t the fllwing bene t: *Minimize water lss Gasses are recmbined int water inside the cell rather than exiting the cell. T much gas leaving the cell can lead t premature dry-ut and cell failure. Cell dry ut is a majr cause f VRLA cell failure. *Increase life There are many ptential failure mdes f VRLA cells. A number f these failure mdes can be mitigated by the catalyst technlgy such as: Cell dry ut, psitive plate crrsin, thermal runaway, capacity lss due t negative plate deplarizatin. *Minimize psitive plate crrsin A reductin in at current reduces the amunt f ver-charge n the psitive plate which directly impacts the crrsin rate. The design life f a lead acid battery is based n the crrsin f the plate barring any ther unfrseen failure mdes. *Maintain cell capacity Many VRLA cells in service are failing capacity tests because their negative plates are deplarized. In fact signi cant capacity increase have been seen n sme cells just by installing a catalyst. 06
