TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION WA67 The Aluminum Clad Wood Framed Folding System Minimal maintenance extruded aluminum on the outside and the warmth of wood on the inside. Large Exterior Openings Are Possible With NanaWall folding systems, openings can range from as few as two panels to as many as twelve panels, and can be as wide as 39. Engineered, Tested Systems from a Single Source Supplier The NanaWall WA67 have been engineered and independently tested for air and water penetration resistance, structural deflection, and forced entry per AAMA/WDMA/ CSA 101/I.S.2/A440, NAFS North American Fenestration Standard with excellent results. See the Performance Testing Results pages. NFRC Rated Thermal Performance The WA67 has been rated, certified and labeled in accordance with NFRC 100 and NFRC 200; see the Performance and Testing Results section for more details. With 3 13/16 (97 mm) thick profile with a foam layer and triple glazing, the WA67 can meet Passive House Standards. Energy Star values can be met with selected glazing. Choice of Exterior Aluminum Finishes In addition to the 50 choices from the NanaWall Powder Coating Finish Chart in the front part of this binder, the full range of RAL high gloss and matte powder coating are available. Anodized finishes are also available. A RAL color chart is available on request. Option of Top Hung (WA67/o) or Floor supported System (WA67/u) The standard system is top hung, where the main weight is carried by the head track. The bottom track is a guide. The floor supported system is recommended for applications where the load bearing capability of the header is a concern. The main weight is carried by the floor track. The upper track is merely a guide. Versatile Functions The easy-to-operate system offers versatile functions, with options for swing entry/exit panel(s) and with the flexibility to open fully or partially. Florida Approval The WA67 has received statewide Florida approval with Product Approval number FL26458. This information with limitations can be viewed at www.floridabuilding.org Life Cycle Performance The WA67 meets the German DIN EN 1191/12400 Classification, where a unit is tested after 20,000 opening and closing cycles and is still functional. Ventilated Rain-Screened, Extruded Aluminum Cladding Extruded aluminum is attached to the wood using the back ventilated, rain screen principle to protect and isolate the wood on the inside. Choice of Quality Interior Wood and Finishes Only cross-grained solid, triple laminated wood is used. Pine, meranti, douglas fir, and other selected woods are available with environmentally-friendly finishes. No veneers are used. 1

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION WA67 Multiple Stacking Configurations Over fifty-four stacking configurations exist, with both inward opening and outward opening options. To see these operable wall concepts in action, visit www.nanawall.com and click on the Animations link. Outstanding Appearance European styling and handsome, sleek lines allow glass areas to be maximized. All folding and locking hardware is integrated into the profiles for a clean look. There are no surface mounted hinges. Secure / Single Hand Operation Concealed multiple point locking operates easily with a turn of a handle. The top and bottom shoot bolts between each folding pair of panels have a full 24 mm throw. Independent tests confirm that the locking system passes strict California forced-entry testing requirements. No surface mounted flush bolts. Continued Long-Term Satisfactory Operation Smooth sliding and folding operations are assured even when dirt or debris might collect in the bottom track. State-ofthe-art hardware is used with patented, sealed, ball bearing running carriages. Long-term ease of operation is also assured with compensation and adjustment features. Easy to Install, Complete System The precision built system is easy to install and comes complete with pre-fitted hardware. Design Flexibility The designer has flexibility with custom sizes and glazing choices; options for raised or flush sills; a large selection of muntin layouts; and details such as horizontal mullions, SDL muntins or other custom layouts. Hardware Options For the main entry panel, several different locking options are available. Different handle finishes are also available; see Hardware in the General Introduction. Depending on the configuration selected, door closers can be incorporated and units can be provided for panic device installed by others. Custodial hardware is also available. Complete, Coordinated Glass Walls Complete, coordinated glass walls can be provided with various folding doors and folding window combinations, matching French doors, transoms and side lites. Screen Classic / Screen ONE The Screen Classic, a series of collapsible pleated screen panels, riding on a single 1/8" (3 mm) track, is available as an option. The system can be installed within the opening or, with extended tracks can be hidden out of view when not in use. The Screen ONE XL is a non-pleated screening option for single openings up to 18 (5485 mm) wide and double openings up to 36' (10,970 mm) wide. 2

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION WA67 General Description The WA67 is the commercial/residential folding panel wood framed system with exterior clip on aluminum extrusion designed to provide an opening glass wall or storefront for widths up to 39 ; see Maximum Size Chart. It is available in various configurations utilizing one to twelve panels; see elevation drawings. The option exists for a swing entry/exit panel(s). Units can be either inwardopening or outward-opening; see section drawings. Frame and Panels The three-layer cross grain solid wood and clip on aluminum extrusion panel thickness is 2 5/8 (66 mm) or 3 13/16 (97 mm); see various frame profiles in section drawings. The aluminum head jamb of the WA67/o system is clad with a matching wood fascia piece on the inside. Standard woods available are Sapeli Mahogany, Pine, Meranti, Western Hemlock and Spruce. Other woods are also available. Frames and panels have a sanding sealer or a base coat with an additional clear coat applied; see Wood Finish Options in the General Introduction. Standard finishes for the exterior clip on aluminum extrusion are clear anodized and 50 choices from the 50 NanaWall Powder Coating Finish Chart. Custom finishes can be chosen from a range of over two hundred RAL colors and other anodized finishes; see Aluminum Finish Options in the General Introduction. Panels are pre-assembled. All pins and screws to assemble the frame are provided. The Higher Weather Performance Sill (raised sill), a thermally broken aluminum with polyamide plastic, is available in a clear or dark anodized finish. The various aluminum flush sills are available in a clear or dark bronze anodized finish. Glazing Units are supplied glazed with 1 (26 mm) double clear insulating safety or insulating Low-E safety glass, 1 1/8 (28 mm) and 1 1/2 (38 mm) triple insulating Low-E safety glass, other high performing safety glass such as Heat Mirror, special tint, etc., or other glass on request. Weatherstripping All weather-stripping consisting of EPDM or brush seals is provided for sealing between panels and between panels and frames; see section drawings. Sliding/Folding Hardware For sliding and folding of each pair of panels, for the WA 67/o top hung system, a load-bearing, upper-running carriage and a lower-running guide carriage is attached between the two panels (shown in the section drawings). The double pair, twin-tandem, upper-running carriage is constructed to ensure even distribution of pressure on all four rollers. For the WA 67/u floor supported system, a floor supported, lower running carriage and an upper running carriage as a guide is attached between the panels. Rollers have sealed bearings and are coated with toughened Polyamide to ensure soundfree running and optimal resistance to extreme temperature. Two to five patented clear or dark bronze anodized hinges per connection are provided to connect panels together and to connect panels to the frame. Locking Hardware and Handle Options For each pair of folding panels (except for the pair to be opened first in a unit with no swing panel), provided is two point locking hardware consisting of top and bottom Polyamide capped locking rods operated by a 180º turn of a flat handle on the inside only. If there is a swing panel, there are the following hardware options on the primary swing panel: 1. Multi-point Locking. Consisting of lever handles on both sides, a lockset, lockable latch, deadbolt and rods at the top and the bottom. After turn of key or thumbturn, depression of handles withdraws latch, lifting of handles engages rods and turn of key or thumbturn engages deadbolt and locks. For a unit with a secondary swing panel, available are matching dummy lever handles on both sides and a concealed flush bolt that operates the rods at the top and the bottom. Available with profile cylinder or with SFIC adapter. 2. Deadbolt Lock. Consisting of push/ pull handles on both sides with deadbolt(s) operated by lockset. Turn of key or thumb turn operates lock. Available is a lockset option of having key operation on both sides. To keep the panel closed, a door closer should be field installed, but please note that a door closer can only be installed for a swing panel that is attached to the side jamb. 3. No Hardware. For panic hardware to be installed by others, the main entry panel can be supplied with no locking hardware. For a unit with no swing panel, on the folding pair to be opened first, provided is two point locking hardware consisting of top and bottom Polyamide capped locking rods operated by a 180º turn of an L-shaped handle for an inward opening unit and a flat handle for an outward opening unit on the inside. In both cases, there will be a flat handle on the outside. Lockable with a lockset. Turn of key or thumb turn operates lock. Please note that for an outward opening unit, locking from the inside will need to be with a key that may not meet egress requirements. For a unit where locking/handles on the inside only is desired, for example, in window applications, on all swing panels or pair of folding panels to be opened first, provided is two point locking with a flat handle on the inside only. Handle Finish Schemes: Standard Stainless steel lever, flat, and L-shaped handles in brushed satin or black titanium finish. Push/ pull handles are in brushed stainless steel. Optional Brass lever handles in oil rubbed brass or satin nickel and flat handles powdercoated dark brown or silver gray. 3

RELATIONSHIP OF FRAME, PANEL AND GLASS DAYLIGHT OPENING SIZES WA67 For WA67 with 2 5/8 (66 mm) thick profiles only Dimensions in millimeters unless noted. Calculation applies to the standard stiles and rails and assumes that all nominal panel widths are equal. Glass dimensions of all panels in a unit are equal. Nominal Panel Height (PH) is defined as Glass Daylight Opening Height + 192 (7 9/16 ) for a Raised Sill (higher weather performance sill and 174 (6 7/8 ) for a Flush/Low Profile Saddle Sill. Nominal Panel Width (PW) is defined as Glass Daylight Opening Width + 156 (6 1/8 ). Panel Height is as seen from the inside on an inward opening unit and is as seen from the outside on an outward opening unit. Please note that with the overlap of the head jamb and the sill with the panel, the Clear Opening Height will not be the same as the Panel Height. See Cross-Section Details of both stiles of each panel to determine actual Panel Width. With astragals, overlapping, etc., the actual Panel Width not only varies with position of panel in a configuration, but the inside and outside surface widths of each stile may be different. For each configuration, the Frame Width (FW) is the sum of the nominal Panel Width (PW) x the number of panels + a number (N) which is the sum of the side jamb dimensions and dimensions of space between panels in excess of the nominal Panel Width as shown in the Cross-Section Details. Lower corner where window meets door will not be as weather resistant as compared to a unit with all panels equal in height. 3. Please note that the location of the handle of the swing door panel has limitations due to the strike plate having to be either on the side jamb profile below the counter or on the adjacent window panel. 4. Handle heights of the door unit and window unit may be different. Some Typical Elevations looking from Inside. Create dramatic unique openings by opening two corners of a room without the need of a corner post. See below for some examples. Please note that angled units are not as weather resistant as standard straight units. As there can be many design possibilities, please submit your preliminary ideas and sketches to NanaWall Systems, Inc. for evaluation. Outward Opening A-1L+2R A-1L+3R A-2L + 2R inside inside inside Shown are outside corner configurations. Inside corners are also possible. Other configurations are possible and are derived from these above basic configurations. They are created by adding multiple pairs of panels to either side. Mirror images of these configurations are also possible. 23

INWARD OPENING SUGGESTED TYPICAL INSTALLATION WA67 Head Jamb (top hung) INSTALLATION NOTES Suggested Typical Installation drawings shown are very general and may not be suitable for any particular installation. Product placement, fasteners, flashing, waterproofing, sealant, trim and other details for specific surrounding conditions must be properly designed and provided by others. INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS The approximate weight of a panel with double-glazing is 5.5 lbs/ft 2 (27 kg/m 2 ) and with triple glazing is about 8.5 lbs/ ft 2 (40 kg/m 2 ). The structural deflection of the header should be the lesser of L/720 of the span and 1/4 (6 mm) under full loads. Structural support for lateral loads (both windload and when the panels are stacked open) must be provided. See Pre-Installation Preparation and Installation Guidelines in the General Introduction Section. An owner s manual with installation instructions is available upon request. Rough Opening From Subfloor Frame Height Standard Higher Weather Performance Sill (top hung) (Raised sill) It is recommended that all building dead loads be applied to the header prior to installing the NanaWall. If so and if a reasonable amount of time has been allowed for the effect of this dead load on the header, then only the building s live load can be used to meet the above requirements of L/720 or 1/4 (6 mm). If not, both the dead and live loads need to be considered. For the floor supported WA67u, please note that there is no vertical load from the panels on the header. For Canadian installations, to drain sill channels, weepholes by others will be needed. Panel Hinged At Right Side Jamb 36
