PINPOINT TEST V: BOTH REVERSI... PINPOINT TEST V: BOTH REVERSING LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE (EXTERIOR LIGHTING) 417 01 Exterior Lighting 2010 F 150 DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING Procedure revision date: 07/28/2009 Reversing Lamps Special Tool(s) Fluke 77 IV Digital Multimeter FLU77 4 or equivalent Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) software with appropriate hardware, or equivalent scan tool Flex Probe Kit 300 NUD105 R025DE or equivalent Principles of Operation 4R70E/4R75E Transmission When the transmission is in REVERSE (R), the digital Transmission Range (TR) routes voltage to the reversing lamps relay coil. When the relay is energized, voltage is supplied to the reversing lamps. The reversing lamps relay is located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB). 6R80 Transmission/5.4L Engine Combination The Transmission Control Module (TCM) (internal to the transmission) provides voltage and ground to the reversing lamps relay coil. When the transmission is in REVERSE (R), the TCMenergizes the reversing lamps relay which supplies voltage to the reversing lamps. 6R80 Transmission/6.2L Engine Combination The PCM provides ground to the reversing lamps relay coil. When the transmission is in REVERSE (R), the PCM energizes the reversing lamps relay which supplies voltage to the reversing lamps. Pinpoint Tests Pinpoint Test V: Both Reversing Lamps Are Inoperative Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 93, Reversing Lamps for schematic and connector information. rmal Operation 4R70E/4R75E Transmission When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, voltage is supplied from the Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 54 (5A) to the digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor. When the transmission is in REVERSE (R), the digital TRsensor routes voltage to the reversing lamps relay coil. Battery voltage is supplied from the BJBfuse 43 (20A) to the reversing lamps relay switch side. When the reversing lamps relay is energized, voltage is routed to the reversing lamps. The reversing lamps share a common ground circuit. 6R80 Transmission/5.4L Engine Combination The reversing lamps relay coil power and ground are supplied and controlled by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (also called the mechatronic assembly). When the transmission is in REVERSE (R), the TCMenergizes the reversing lamps relay. Battery voltage is supplied from the BJBfuse 43 (20A) to the reversing lamps relay switch side. When the reversing lamps relay is energized, voltage is routed to the reversing lamps. The reversing lamps share a common ground circuit. 6R80 Transmission/6.2L Engine Combination The reversing lamps relay coil is supplied voltage when the PCM relay is energized (ignition system is in the RUN state). When the transmission is in REVERSE (R), the PCM provides ground to energize the reversing lamps relay. When the reversing lamps relay is energized, voltage is routed to the reversing lamps. The reversing lamps share a common ground circuit.
