HIGH TEMPERATURE GASKET MATERIALS Introduction High temperature sealing applications, such as those in waste gas and engine operations, require a gasket material that is capable of maintaining a long-term seal at temperatures often in excess of 500 C. At these temperatures, conventional gasket materials suffer from rapid thermal degradation which precludes their use as a component in gasket materials. Klinger offer a range of high temperature gasket products capable of withstanding temperatures above 400 C and up to 1000 C. These materials exhibit low weight loss at high temperatures and provide high integrity seals at temperatures beyond the range of conventional gasket materials. Klinger Thermica Thermica is a high temperature compressed fibre material manufactured using the calendering process gasket material like Klingersil materials. The calendering process ensures the material is flexible, easy to cut and handle and has excellent leaktightness. The addition of mica lessens the ageing effects of elevated temperatures on the material s structure and increases its usable temperature range. Please see product details on page 169. KLINGERmilam-PSS KLINGERmilam-PSS is an asbestos free sealing material based on mica reinforced with a stainless steel tanged insert. It is specifically designed for hot, dry gas applications up to 900 C and 5 bar. However, the outstanding chemical resistance of mica makes the gasket suitable for a wide range of other applications. Please see product details on page 170. Klinger Ferroflex SP/AF-II Klinger SP/AF-II is an aramid fibre based gasket material with NBR binder with a tanged metallic insert to aid handling and blow-out properties. It has excellent oil and fuel resistance combined with good stress relaxation and high temperature resistance. Typical applications include carburettor and diesel engines e.g. exhaust manifold, oil pan and heat shield. Please see product details on page 171. Klinger Maxitherm Klinger Maxitherm is a semi-metallic gasket product comprising a metallic core (Inconel 600 as standard) with a facing material specially developed for high temperature applications. It is designed as an alternative to asbestos based products for high temperature operations, offering a high integrity seal in applications which have traditionally precluded the use of most non-asbestos gasket products. Please see product details on page 65.
High Temperature Flexible Compressed Fibre Introduction: KLINGER THERMICA Klinger Thermica was developed to create and easy to use for higher temperature applications. Thermica has been engineered to have a very good loadbearing capacity and create a very leaktight seal which meets the most stringent industry standards. Thermica also possesses the strengths of a conventional compressed fibre material which makes it easy to cut and flexible. Thermica is a compressed fibre material developed for high temperature service Thermica can be used as an alternative to graphite laminates for applications up to 400 C Compressed fibre material which is easy to cut and handle Excellent leaktightness Excellent thermal stability up to 400 C Very good loadbearing capacity and stress relaxation properties Beige Max. temperature : 400 C Compressibility (ASTM F36J) : 12% Recovery (ASTM F36J) : 55% Klinger hot/cold compression Decrease in thickness at 23 C, 50MPa 17% Decrease in thickness at 300 C, 50MPa 13% Decrease in thickness at 400 C, 50MPa 18% Stress relaxation DIN 52913: 50MPa, 16h/300 C 28 N/mm² BS 7531: 40MPa, 16h/300 C (1.5mm): 27 N/mm² Thickness increase (ASTM F146), Oil IRM 903 : 5hr/150ºC : 8% Tightness (BS 7531) : <1.0 ml/min Thickness (mm): 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 & 3.0 Sheeting (m): 2.0 x 1.5
